hitting a million, dehydration, and questioning the species hierarchy (ToL#171)

February 25, 2016 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 71 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

one million pins, i’m thirsty, and

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Mind = blown; socks = rocked right off. You know my banana oat Greek yogurt muffins? Those little suckers that always seem to hog first place in my popular posts widget?..

Most Popular Muffins

I just realized the other day that they hit over one million pins on Pinterest. One meeeeeeeellion… I don’t even know what to say. I don’t even think it’s really sinking in. All I know is that I’m freaking stoked over the fact that I decided to actually post that recipe since it was one that I was kind of going back and forth on for a while. It’s funny… there are times where I’ll think a recipe is going to take off and it ends up just doing okay, and other times where the most random recipe will get heaps of attention. Funny in a frustratingly annoying kind of way 🙈

2. To celebrate, I busted out the happy dances whipped up a tribute recipe that I’ll be sharing on Saturday. I have a feeling you guys’ll like this one, but then again… what do I know. See #1 😂

Tribute Banana Oat Recipe

3. And now for the most random thing you’ll probably ever see here on Spoons… puppy poop bags!

Puppy Poop Bags

I grabbed this at the off-leash area while I was out with Ky, and I had to share it with you guys because the look on the dog’s face seriously cracks me up. What’s with the smug grin?!? I mean, I know we’re the ones picking up your poops, but that’s only because you’re not smart enough to use toilets and we don’t want to accidentally step in your craps and ruin our shoes. Savvy?

4. So one of my biggest fears came true the other day (read: not actually a fear at all but something that’s crossed my mind a few times). I grabbed a carton of almond milk out of the fridge, went to shake it, and realized a little too late that the cap wasn’t screwed on all the way. Let me tell you… that sucker came flying off and milk went everywhere. On the floor, on the cabinets, on the walls, on the stove – it was like I just popped open a bottle of champagne. I wish I had snapped a pic, but it was early in the morning and the lighting was bad (#bloggerproblems). Thankfully I’m not one to cry over spilled milk 😉

5. On the topic of liquidy things that you drink, here’s where I admit that I haven’t been drinking enough water… which is nuts because I KNOW how important it is and it’s something I’m always telling other people to stay on top of. I don’t even know how it happened! I could blame the cold and say that I haven’t really been thirsty, but apparently I have been because I’m pretty sure I experienced some of the symptoms of mild dehydration. Extra fatigue, cravings I couldn’t pinpoint, headaches, bloating, heartbeat higher than it should be during workouts… Nothing extreme, but all adding up to make me feel a little out of sorts. And all cleared up when I made it a point to start drinking more. I’m back to my approach of filling up a 2L jug of water and making sure I get through it each day.

Drinking Cup

6. Orrrrrrr summer could just hurry up and bless me with an abundance of watermelon so that I could get my fluids in that way. Eh? Summer? What do you say? Hook a girl up!

Big Bowl of Melon

7. Until then, I’ll just be over here eating my weight in dates… which I seriously need to restock on seeing as I only have one more piece out of the pound I bought less than a week ago. These ones from Caramel Naturel are just crazy addicting. (Edited to add: that one piece is now gone. In fact, I’m eating it as I type this).

Caramel Dates

8. Speaking of crazy… the orchid that I got for my birthday is still alive and well, which means that I somehow managed to keep it alive for almost 2 months. I don’t know how, seeing as they’re supposed to be one of the harder ones to care for and my thumbs aren’t exactly green, but there ya go — proof that miracles really do happen.

Healthy Orchids

9. And I feel like that’s a good note to end things on, but because I know people don’t like those odd numbers…

10. … have a happy Thursday, friendly faces! Do something epic 😁

Congratulations! That’s awesome on the 1 million pins! That must feel really surreal. I’ve only been blogging for a couple of months now, but it is strange to me which of my posts get more attention than others. Of course, it helps that those muffins are really good!

whenever someone says savvy i always say it in a captain jack voice, i totally hope you wrote it with captain jack in your head 🙂 that is hilarious about the almond milk, not that you got milk everywhere but that totally seems like something out of a cartoon and not something that happens in real life. glad you arent the type to cry over spilt milk 😀

Mmm, I can’t wait for summer fruit as well. Even that picture of watermelon has me craving a nice cold slice… despite the snow outside!

Congrats on the major milestone, friend! Can’t say I’m surprised though – your recipes are beautifully photographed, easy to make and delicious!

I hear ya on the date consumption – medjool dates are literally one of my staple foods. I can’t eat them plain unless they’re paired with AB or PB though!

Holy cow! 1 Million! Congrats, that really is mind blowing, that 1 million people pinned that, sooooo freakin cool! And Impressive that you kept your orchid alive, I can’t keep anything alive…besides my kids. But only because they’re nagging me to eat all the time, hehe.

Count me in as one of those pins. My husband went through a phase of eating the packaged chocolate mini muffins for breakfast every day, and you just happened to post this recipe in the middle of his obsession. I thought I would give it a shot since yours are much healthier and not processed, and he LOVED them. He liked them better than the store bought ones. So I made a few batches until his obsession faded out, but I have it on the back burner for when he starts up again 🙂 (And I also made them with blueberries for his parents, and they loved them as well 🙂 )

Congrats on 1 million pins!! That’s amazing. Cheers to a million more! 🙂
And the shaking thing without a tight cap has definitely happened to me before. I feel like I did it with something more messy though..like salad dressing or something. I’ve obviously blocked it from my memory, whatever it was.
LOL at the poop scoop bag and species hierarchy. My friends and I love making fun of our priest’s dog by saying things like, “You can’t reason. You just care about squirrels and your heroin ball (←because he legit acts high around that thing).” We’re so mean.

Congrats on 1Million pins. Someday, I hope to get my Pinterest game up. sigh.
On another note, who are these people who don’t like odd numbers? Maybe it’s cause I’m a Math buff but I love odd numbers – even when I’m cooking, I either try to start with some odd numbers or cut things into an odd numbers of pieces. I promise I’m not crazy.

Congrats on a million! That’s crazy! I feel the same way about posts. Ones that I’m super proud of that I think are really great just do eh, then random ones that I don’t think are all that great do awesome. You can’t predict those things!! When it’s cold out I drink hot water and add coconut oil to it sometimes. I love it and it keeps my hydrated!

I love summer when I can get hydrated with watermelon. I always get the cubes or slices because no one wants to see my kitchen if I have to tackle a whole watermelon.

Not having dates in the house is also a nightmare situation or at least an emergency.

And even though I’ve always been one to drink a ton of water, I’ve been slacking lately, too. It hasn’t been sounding appealing, but as soon as I take a sip, a whole bottle is gone. So I just have to remember that 😛

Congrats on the pums!! That’s pure craziness. I’m pretty bad at drinking water, but I definitely find that using a straw is super helpful!! Also those poop bags are too funny. When I was a kid there was a local company in my hometown that scooped your dog’s poop and it was. Literally called Got Poop? Which of course,.my brother and I founderstand HILARIOUS

I am amazed by your orchid skills; show me your ways or send me some luck. 🙂

I’ve done the almond milk thing more times than I can count and I’ve been using a new app on my phone to monitor my water intake. It’s called Plant Nanny and as you drink, you grow plants….or kill them if you fail to consume. No pressure though… 🙂

Number one is definitely fitting with what’s on my mind – congrats on 1 million, huge! I do find it strange that I can’t predict what will “take off” and what won’t. It’s also a struggle for me to get enough water in no matter what the season, mainly because I need to flavor it since in that way, I’m sort of a child 🙂

I ate so much watermelon at the beginning of summer here that I had a constant watermelon bloat… I knew I had to cut myself off… whoops!
Congrats on the pins and for having one surviving and thriving orchid! I always kill mine – not good with plants but can somehow make cut flowers survive for weeks on end!
