. thinking out loud #128 .

April 30, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 87 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Just in case you ever wondered what my hair looks like after hanging out under my toque (read: beanie) and helmet after a day of snowboarding… Voila!

Hat Hair

I know, I know… you don’t have to tell me. Ridiculously, ridiculously good looking (name that movie!)

2. Actually, I probably should go in and get my hair professionally tamed soon. I’m long overdue for a trim, and my bangs are getting a teensy bit long…

3. Then again, I’ve been thinking about growing them out, and I usually cut my own bangs anyways so I don’t know what I’m going on about in #2. Bear with me. I’m running on minimal sleep.

4. In other news, can we talk about the injustice that is coming home tired after a long day, deciding to use the elevator because you just can’t fathom the idea of running up the stairs in your current state, and being blasted in the face with the delicious smell of hot, cheesy pizza as soon as the doors slide open? Tor.ture. This is why I almost always take the stairs.

5. Speaking of stairs, who needs a gym stocked with fancy stairmasters when you live in a very tall condo…

Condo Stairs

Welcome to where I sometimes work out. And what I mean by that is where I sometimes come to get my blood moving when I feel like I’ve been sitting and working for way too long. I keep going back and forth on the idea of joining a gym, and the fact that I have a perfectly usable gym and a whole lot of stairs in my building is making that decision a lot harder… especially now that the weather is improving and I’ll be able to get outside more. Gah!

6. So I finished reading Big Little Lies, and I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a book that’ll make you lose sleep because you just can’t wait to find out what happens next — it’s a whodunnit done right, with just the perfect balance of humour and seriousness. Moriarity has such a clever way of writing, and she weaves her stories in a way that’ll leave you guessing until the very end. Loved it. But now I have no idea what to read next.

Big Little Lies

7. Actually, I probably won’t have as much time to read since I’ll [hopefully] be spending more time colouring. I love colouring as a way to relax, and I’ve wanted a more “grown up” book for a while now, so I ordered this Enchanted Forest one off Amazon. Now to wait for it to actually get here…

Enchanted Forest

[source]

8. And I feel like I haven’t posted a recipe in forever… which is probably because I haven’t. BUT! I do have one coming up for you tomorrow, and it involves these sweet little guys right here…

Medjool Dates

Happy Thursday, friendly faces! πŸ˜€

I read big little lies! I liked it but I just felt like at times it was soooo juvenile and that made it hard for me to take the entire book seriously, when in reality the themes were very dark and serious. And important. So I thought the underlying messages were kind of undermined by her humor in a way. But it was a good read.

Loved Big Little Lies too. I am going to check out her other books – have you read any others by that author? I just downloaded the audiobook “You Are a Badass” by Jen Sincere because my friend recommended it to me so I am going to start listening to that while driving. I love self development type books!

I think your hair looks fab ;). I just finished reading The Orphan Train and I loved it! It’s definitely not a mystery, but it’s an awesome fictional story based on real-life in the early 1900s. I’m about to start Before I Go To Sleep, which is supposed to be a Memento-type book.

I really loved Big Little Lies! When I first saw the book, I was a bit intimidated by the length, but couldn’t believe what a quick read it ended up being! Before I knew it, I was nearly done. The author definitely has a knack with words and the ability to capture attention.

The stairs to my first apartment were inside and I would use them as a stairmaster at times… like when an ice storm would hit and I couldn’t get outside for 4 days. I couldn’t even walk to my complex’s gym due to the ice, and the stairmaster was a great workout.

    1. You’re gorgeous, and if I could rock hair like yours I totally would.

    2. Stairs are legitimately my favorite thing ever. NOT. I have to take the stairs to get to my office and the day of leg day almost kills me. There’s an elevator right by it that I’m always tempted to take, but I haven’t given in just yet!

    3. I love to color! Whenever my nephews are over we always color together, but they get upset because I won’t let them color people purple with green spots. I’m too realistic in my coloring I guess! πŸ˜‰

I am the same with the stairs in my building. When I don’t feel like working out I just sprint up and down them – which I’m sure the people living in my building probably love. OH WELL! I am actually growing my bangs out and it’s super frustrating, as I hate the length they are at. I seriously need to make a giant poster that reminds me that I should NEVER cut my bangs again, should the thought ever cross my mind, because I always regret them on me! LOL

I actually don’t mind bangs, even though they make me look like I’m about 15 πŸ˜† But they’re in that annoying in-betweeny stage right now where they’re not quite long enough to stay behind my ears, so they keep getting in my eyes. Urgh.

A colouring book for grown-ups?! It looks like you read my mind because that’s something I’ve been – not actively yet, though – searching for. As well as a new book so you actually gave me ideas for two more books to buy. Money spent on books is money well spent, right?!
And geee … I wouldn’t want to live in your condo. Or not on the upper floors at least because ‘m acrophobic and wouldn’t be able to look down that stairway without feeling sick. How did you even manage to take that picture???
