. thinking out loud #68 .

March 6, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 113 Comments

Thursday already? Say it ain’t so!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Hello, hello from gorgeous Hawaii!

Goodmorning Hawaii

Just checking in to say goodbye and let you guys know that I’m not coming back home. Take care, friends!

2. Juuuuuuust kidding… but oh how I wish I wasn’t. I love it here. I’ll share more deets of the things we did when I do my recaps, but for now I can say that even just hanging out at the resort has been a blast…

Gorgeous Hawaii

Rocks on the Beach

Feeding the Fishies

Marriott Kauai

3. And the weather — ohhhh the weather! Can you believe that I legit forgot what it feels like to be outside for longer than 2 minutes at a time?  It’s been ~24ºC/75ºF, which is apparently a little cold by their standards, but it feels amazing to me. Although I’m still getting used to their strange way of measuring the weather 😆

Kauai Weather Station

4. Unfortunately, I’ll have to go home eventually — I can’t leave poor Douglas to fend for himself…

Douglas in a Bowl

I left him hanging out in a bowl of water, so hopefully he survives the week. I’ve already killed him a handful of times, and while I’ve always managed to revive him, I don’t know how many lives he has and I’d rather not push my luck.

5. Remember how I was complaining about airports, layovers, and the 6.5 hour flight I had to get through to get over here? It didn’t actually end up being that bad. The flight was a bit bumpy, but I still managed to catch a few hours of sleep at some point… and they had these mini tablets for rent, so I grabbed one of those and watched The Hobbit 2 (~3 hrs) and Gravity (1.5 hours). 6.5 hours down in the blink of an eye. I’ll take it.

The Hobbit 2

6. Speaking of movies, lookit what I came across while browsing through some magazines I found in the airplane seat pocket…

Gone Girl Movie

Did you know they’re turning Gone Girl into a movie? Add this to the list of books-to-movies that I need to see.

7. Also, did you know that…

Hawaiian Alphabet

… because I had no idea 😯 I can almost spell out my name, but seeing as there’s no ‘D,’ I’d have to mod it to Aman’ai or something… which doesn’t sound too bad, actually.

8. Guess what I remembered to bring! My cinnamon shaker 😆

Travelling Cinnamon Shaker

I wasn’t about to make the same mistake again after leaving it at home on my last trip, and my classy 6 AM hotel room breakfasts have been so much better as a result.

9. Another thing that’s been so much better? My skin and hair. I knew Alberta air was dry, but I didn’t realize how dry until I came here… I’m seriously running out of reasons to go back home… Mom, take care of Douglas.

10. Once again, you guys are going to have to forgive me for not being the best linkup host this week. I always try to comment on all the posts that link up with ToL, but I’m not sure how I’ll manage it this time around since I’m not spending a lot of time on the computer while I’m away. I’ll do my best to catch up when I get back, though… I miss you guys!

All of your pictures have me really wishing that I was going somewhere warm for Spring Break! Today in the restrooms at school there was a girl telling her friend step by step how shew as going to get ready for vacation: 1. Go home. 2. Tan. 3. Pick out swimsuit. Then after that she kind of trailed off and repeated it a few times. Somehow she is going to end up in Floridia though. It must be the tan 😉

I’m thinking Aman’ai should be your blogger persona. Although if I’m being honest it looks veryyy similar to Arman’s name bahah. Funny story: I chose my dog’s name while I was in Hawaii the week before we got him by spinning the big tower thing that holds all the name keychains in the gift shops. Keep on enjoying yourself in beautiful Kauai!

Oh I’ve never been to Hawaii – the closest is this Hawaiian dressing I just bought – and had no idea that they had so few letters!

OMG, those pictures… seriously can’t believe how gorgeous it looks there! I am so envious right now… I need some sun & tropical weather in my life.
I didn’t know they were doing a movie of Gone Girl! I had started to read it, but it was a bit slow, IMO… so I started reading Grain Brain instead. LOL
    Have a great time!!! 🙂

Love Kauai so much! I hate to say that you’ll have the Hawaii bug all the time… And want to keep going back to explore the other islands too.
Hopefully you’ll get a chance to venture out of the resort area/lihue because Kauai has so much to offer. Do not miss going north (even if it’s rainy) and stopping at Hanalei Bay. Most amazing beach I’ve been to out of all the beaches I’ve been to on 3 Hawaiian islands.

Oh I definitely have the bug — I visited Oahu last year, and I’m planning on Maui for my next trip. We went south to Poipu and Waimea today, and we’re planning on heading north tomorrow. Hopefully the weather improves a bit — it’s been raining on and off all day.

Umm, love that the cinnamon shaker made the journey as well. Too funny!

Don’t worry. Douglas, like his name, looks to be very robust! I think he’ll recuperate just fine. I can totally understand not wanting to ever leave Hawaii, though!!! (At least until the frigid temperature leave you guys alone in AB). Enjoy!!! 🙂

I thank you for making my heart palpitate at 7:00 am after showing me that article. I LOVE GONE GIRL. Sistas a nut job, but that movie is going to be brilliant (hopefully). Meet me half way and let’s have a movie date shall we? I pick….California or Seattle. Because we are either near Disneyland or the Pike Place Market.

I read the weather detector and it made me smile, so thank you for sharing that with us. If it were in Arizona it would say something like, “If the sun is out, it’s hot as hell, and your feet are on fire.” I wish I could lay on the beach, although…I’d probably come back home looking like Akons sister. Oh well, bring on the coconuts! 😉

ARGH I’m so jealous of you right now. When I was younger, I used to go to Maui every year with my sister and all of my cousins and we always had SUCH a great time. My parents own a few condos that we rent out on the Big Island as well, so hopefully I can get over there this summer sometime! The weather looks beautiful and I hope you’re enjoying those quiet mornings! Nothing better than a cup of coffee and some tropical birds singing 🙂

I flew with Westjet. Their older planes have the screens in the back of the seats, but apparently they’re now making them without so that they can rent out tablets. So much better this way.

We’re at the Kauai Marriott on Kalipaki Beach. And can you believe that after two days in the sun, I’ve only managed to go from Casper-esque to off-white? Ridiculous. Today and tomorrow is rain, so hopefully I’ll manage a few last-minute rays.
