Happy What I Ate Wednesday, friends! π
I missed out on all the foodie fun last week since I was too busy running around Disneyland, but that just means I get to share my vacation eats with you this week instead. I know I usually try to showcase everything I eat in a single day, but vacations always call for exceptions, no? So without further ado, some highlights of What I Ate [in California]β¦ And please excuse the iPhone pics — Mr. DSLR stayed at home.
Prepare yourself for the most un-Amanda-like breakfast[s] that you’ll ever see here on Spoons…
The first hotel we stayed at came with free breakfast, so I figured… when in Rome California, why not start the day with roasted potatoes, scrambled eggs, bacon, and a cheesed-up bagelβ¦ so I did. Not gonna lie — it was weirdβ¦ but also delicious. Is it a breakfast that I’ll make part of my regular rotation? Probably not, but it was a nice little change nonetheless. I also recall a morning with pancakes, and one with yogurt, fruit, and cereal, but I’m afraid you’ll have to use your imagination for those ones.
And now for a breakfast that’s so painfully Amanda — behold the wonder that is hotel room oatmeal…
Justin’s [classic] almond butter, plain Greek yogurt, and a packet of instant oatmeal made with hot water from the in-room coffee maker and eaten out of a disposable coffee cup. I also squeezed in a few packets of honey that I managed to ninja from Starbucks — it was deliciously wonderful π My only complaint was the lack of cinnamon, but that was my own fault for leaving home without it (lesson learned).
Next up we’ve got lunch[es], which were often made up of packed (read: squished and unattractive) sandwiches, but also had some more noteworthy moments…
Classic Club sub from Quiznos.
BBQ chicken pizza from La Brea Bakery.
[I forget what kind of] salad and freshly baked bread from La Brea Bakery.
Eating out when you have serious allergies can be kind of stressful (read: I hate it), so when I find a place that feels safe, I stick to it like glue. La Brea Bakery in Downtown Disney happens to be one of those places, especially since it was where we ate last time we came to Disney and I lived to tell the tale π That’s probably why we had a few of our dinner[s] there as well…
Italian sausage pizza.
Steak salad.
β¦ with the rest taking place at Chipotle…
Burrito loaded with chicken, rice, cheese, salsa, and lettuce.
I normally order a bowl or salad when I go to Chipotle, and while I had a few of those on this trip as well, I decided to try something new on our last visit and went with a burrito instead. Holy.wow is all I can say. I think I went a little overboard with the stuffing, because I didn’t manage to finish it all in one sitting.
As for snacks, I’m afraid I don’t have anything too exciting to share, just these Bare Fruit apple chips…
And this cappuccino from the Starbucks in California Adventures…
Of course I packed/ate more than that (my suitcase is usually 1/4 food), but it wasn’t anything too exciting — just your run-of-the-mill travel snacks like dried fruit, nuts, granola bars, pretzels, crackers, and bunnies. If you’ll allow me a moment to vent… I’m generally pretty good with accepting my allergies, but I have to say that walking around Disney looking at all the amazing desserts that I couldn’t have was just a kick in the pants. Pesky peanuts — your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries (name that movie!)
But that’s it for me today, friends! I’ll see you guys tomorrow with a Disney themed Thinking Out Loud! π
What would a completely atypical breakfast be for you?
What’s your go-to order at Chipotle?

Gahhh I can’t believe it!! I totally gasped out loud at your breakfast hahaa.. Were you not hankering for almond butter afterward?
Darn allergies..you couldn’t tackle those desserts :(..and I know you’ve got a sweet tooth that rivals mine π
My typical breakfast has to include nut butter, with either toast, oatmeal or cereal..banana/jam/honey.
π Crazy, right? But switching things up totally makes you appreciate the meals you normally take for granted –I was definitely loving on almond butter after that.
Mmmm that steak salad looks amazing!
my husband is MADE of CHIPOTLE.
me? Ive never ever been!!!
That BBQ chicken pizza looks amazing! A completely atypical breakfast for me would be your typical breakfast. π At chipotle I love to get the veggie bowl with lots and lots of guac! I also love their chips!
You can’t go wrong with a free breakfast! I usually get the burrito bowl at Chipotle too, but oh the burritos are so delicious!
Holy steak salad. I love when salads are bigger than my head. I’m like you when it comes to breakfasts… carbs all the way but when I do switch it up it’s delicious.
That is a bizarre breakfast for you! It looks great though! Now I want something savoury.
Ummm…yum! Not a bad meal in the bunch, and I’m especially drooling over that BBQ chicken pizza! I’m craving a slice of that (or two) and it’s only 8 a.m.! π
I remember actually eating pizza for breakfast back in the day. Granted it was cold leftovers from a night of partying, but stillβ¦ maybe I need to give it another shot π
Great make-shift breakfast in the hotel, Amanda! Looks delicious to me. Have a great day!
All of that pizza makes me want pizza now. π I ordered a burrito once or twice at Chipotle and never again because it was just too much for me. I love the bowls or salads though!
Who are you?
Where did my friend Amanda go?
Vacations make me do strange things too. I prefer savoury breakfasts, but, like you, when in Rome, I usually go for things like muffins, waffles & pancakes. Speaking of which. If you stay at Koa Keaβ¦. you MUST order the lemon soufflΓ© pancakes and the macadamia nut waffles. You can thank me later.
Keep me updated on your travel plans! π
No Koa Kea this time around π It’ll be the Marriott.
I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t eat dessert, especially in Disney. I really feel your pain, it is just not fair. I don’t know how to do savory breakfast. I mean, it has happened on occasion but it is just so wrong that even when I eat it, I feel like I missed out on something.
I need to just stare at that salad a little longer… I actually had a pretty untypical breaky this morning – meatballs… mainly because there was nothing else in the house. Oddly enough, it hit the spot!
Woah! I feel like I don’t even know who you are anymore. LOL! I’m so happy you went crazy at the hotel breakfast and had such an un-Amanda type of meal. Good for you. You & your mama sure did eat delicious over vacation. I’m drooling over everything.. but the pizza probably tops it all. Holy cow, YUM!
Ha ha. Your “atypical” breakfast made me laugh. I just started reading The Fault in or Stars (and I cannot put it down either – and did you hear they made it into a movie that comes out in June?) and her whole deal about the eggs being only breakfasts foods even made me think of you – here I give you evidence A.
And now your post linking California and Justin’s together reminded me of somehting else you might be able to appreciate. I have a friend that has to travel to California ever moth for work – wa wa. Last fall on her flight home the guy sitting next to her pulle dout some of the travel size pocket of Justins, which got them talking. Turns out she soon discovered she was talking to Justin himself! Talk about celebrity sitings in CA! Too bad he wasn’t walking around Disneylad too. Or was he…
Talking to Justin?! Omg what I wouldn’t do to meet him and tell him to start selling his stuff in Canada! And I seriously can’t wait to see TFIOS movie — have you watched the trailer?
Justin himself! It’s crazy. I didn’t think he really existed. Ha ha. I just checked out the trailer for TFIOS and now I want to see it even more! I finished it last night after a reading marathon. I think I need to start reading more “Teen Fiction”. Apparently it’s more on my level. And I kinda like this it’s less realistic. Why live in the real world if you don’t have to? Thanks so much for the great recommendation!
Ahhh so many good eats! That unattractive sandwich still looks delicious to me, and I think it’s totally ok to eat an “abnormal” breakfast on vacay. When in Cali! I’m obsessed with Chipotle but I don’t eat it nearly enough. Go to order? Salad/brown rice (depending on how hungry I am) topped with chicken, veggies, mild salsa, and guac π
That pizza looks verrrry familiarβ¦ We always go to La Brea Bakery for dinner at least once, not because it’s that good, but just because it’s convenient and it’s pizza! Oh, and also Chipotle. Yeahhhh, the burritos are awesome. I usually finish 2/3 for diner, and then eat the other 1/3 for lunch the next day. Oh hell, who am I kidding, I eat the other 1/3 as a post-dinner snack. Hahahaa.
I haven’t been sticking to my new year’s resolution to catch up on/watch more tv/movies – so this is a guess- is that line from Monty Python & the Holy Grail?
Gah – I can only imagine how hard it must have been trying to eat your way through Disney! Those pizzas from La Brea look fantastic! Any chance you might recreate them with a Spoons twist? π
Your 1st hotel breakfast would be atypical for me – am a nutbutter, chocolate, grains kinda gal.
I am new to Chipotle -I used to frequent Moe’s – but, my sis forced me to go this past Christmas and I have been hooked since – my fav there is a chicken bowl-their portions are huge, and for me definitely a plus to get 2 meals while paying for 1 π
It is! One of my favourite movies of all times π And I could definitely try to recreate the pizzaβ¦ but I would have to tackle my fear of working with yeast so that I could make a homemade dough first π―
I was pleasantly surprised with the healthy food choices at Disney World the last time I went. They were actually serving quinoa at the Beast’s castle in the new Fantasyland!
No shame for eating at the same place often! I personally would rather have you not die on an awesome vacation! Hotel breakfasts can either the the best or the worst β looks like you got the best! I’ve been to hotels where they didn’t even have bananas… like ummmm. PS that bbq chicken pizza looks to die.
Hotel breakfast buffets are one of my favourite things about going on holidays (or work trips). I suppose a totally atypical breakfast for me would be anything involving vegetables.
Oh and that bread basket looks amazing (bread baskets are probably my favourite thing about eating in restaurants!).
I love how you even manage to make iPhone pictures look gorgeous – those pizzas look SO delicious! As do the rest of your eats! Of course, you and your Justin’s almond butter is just making me too jealous to even comprehend right now.
Glad you had a great trip! π
Mmmm that first breakfast looks like my typical weekend breakfast. I don’t eat like that during the week, but Riley usually goes all out one weekend day a week. That pizza also caught my eye for sure. I don’t really have an atypical breakfast because I’ll just about any breakfast food out there. I guess fast food breakfasts would be the only thing I stay away from.
That BBQ Chicken pizza is just begging me to eat it! Seriously looks awesome!! I think we all have days when we just neeeeeeed to change our breakfast up. Whenever we go out I’m definitely an eggs, bacon, and toast gal so for me a crazy change up would be if I ordered some waffles (which I also adore, but can never justify eating)!! As for Chipotle, I always go with bowls, too!! Though once I tried a burrito with just beans (both of them), veggies, cheese, and salsa. It’s much more manageable than one that’s half rice!
Glad you jumped on the bagel train. It’s my personal favorite breakfast π That bread at the restaurant looks amazing. I don’t have allergies but when I find a restaurant I love, I just want to go there a million times. Sadly, I’m usually overruled by the rest of my family and have to branch out and try different places. I’d say you ate pretty well π
I totally cheated and looked up that movie quote. My initial guess was The Princess Bride, which I have never seen, but it sounded similar to lines I have heard people quote from that movie. So, I was wrong and the actual movie (won’t spoil for other guessers as I am a cheater) I have never seen either. I am so behind on movies!
My breakfasts are similar to yours. I hated eggs in any form until a couple of years ago. Now, I can tolerate them in small amounts as long as there is a high veggie to egg ratio. Never been one for any type of breakfast meat, pancakes, French toast, waffles. Don’t like potatoes. P-I-C-K-Y, no? I eat out of hotel room cups too; surreptitiously slurping down my packed cereal and yogurt (not packed as that might create severe gastrointestinal problems having gone unrefrigerated for several hours. Not to mention yogurt counts as liquid according to TSA agents and therefore cannot be carried on a plane. Such an odd expression, “not to mention” when clearly I did, in fact, mention.) Will now stop sharing every tangent that runs through my mind.
There is a local chain in Southern California, Sharkey’s, that is sort of like Chipotle but all organic, non-GMO. I prefer their fare to Chipotle and like getting “power plates” composed of grilled salmon and a choice of two sides. Nonetheless, sometimes a bean and cheese burrito just hits the spot.
Have a lovely Wednesday!
Oh girl, I definitely recommend seeing the movie! It’s one of my favourites, and one that I quote on a regular basis. And the yogurt being a liquid thing is definitely strange. Although I’ve managed to get it through a few times, but it was mixed with a lot of cereal and fruit so I dunno…
I can’t help it, but I love all this food!! That salad, and the sub look to die for though!! Oops I just started drooling all over the keyboard. I’m the same way, eating out makes me very nervous because I never know if there will be anything for my food allergy body.
THAT right there would also be an atypical breakfast for me. Otherwise, it’s the sweet stuff all the way! And girl, now I really need to try Chipotle. If it’s not just my classmates raving about it anymore, it must be good. π
My mom actually just bought some of those apple chips from Costco, and I thought of you! I’m excited to dig into the bag (if they’re addicting, you might need to help dig me out).
I’ll keep you in my thoughts π I literally just finished munching on a baggie of them, and yesβ¦ they’re THAT addicting.
You ate a savoury breakfast? I feel like I don’t even know who you are anymore….;-) While I eat eggs for breakfast quite often, I definitely need a sweet element in there as well. So a completely savoury breakfast is unusual for me…which tends to happen whenever I end up at a diner. Although then I’ll usually get a pancake on the side, just so my sweet tooth is happy.
And regular Chipotle order? I’ve only been there twice so I can’t tell you that yet π
Mmm, looks like yummy eats while on vaca! I have to agree, though. When I find a restaurant I like, I typically go back there more than once. It’s hard with me because I’m picky, so it’s easy just to repeat something! haha
sounds like you had some killer food. i think the best part about vacations are the free hotel breakfasts, totally breaks you out of your normal rut of food in the morning.
That pizza looks to DIE for.. home made pizza night + wine at my house tomorrow woo hoo!
Was this your first chipotle experience? Is it as good as everyone says! I’ve never been
Nope! Not my firstβ¦ I think my first time was actually when I went to California a couple years ago. And yes it’s definitely that good. I’ve been jumping on any opportunity to enjoy it since that first time…
Yum, I love me some travel eats. Started my Wednesday post this morning with Bordeaux eats when I sadly remembered that there was no way to get them from my phone on my notebook while I am at the university. So I’ll be super late to the party. Too bad that the mobile internet I am paying for does not work. *remind: call phone company
And even though you were hindered by your annoying allergy you managed to have some awesome eats, lady. Oh my how jealous I am that you made it to Chipotle. Nothings better than a good burrito. And I never manage to finish one by myself. Usually I just use the opportunity to save leftovers for lunch the next day.
Pizza!! Yummmm! I would take off the chicken since I’m vegetarian, but it looks delish! And the bread does too!
That pizza looks unbelievably! So tasty. My go-to at Chipotle is the salad with chicken, guac, all the salsas, cheese… drool. I love the dressing they give you. As for typical breakfasts, mine is a giant smoothie or something involving almond butter and bananas.
3 cheers for Chipotle! The original one is like two blocks away from where my sister went to school and we’re pretty proud of it here. I think Chipotle makes up for the Broncos π I used to always get the burrito bowl but now I get the sofritas salad. Sooo good π
Chipotle AND Justin’s? (CO is the home of Justin’s, right?). I think I need to move…
And Celestial Seasonings and Izze’s and One Republic and The Fray…And yes, Justin’s π
My go to order at Chipotle is always the chicken burrito with lots of gauc!!!
That. Salad. Is. Beyond.
Like, whoa.
(I actually really like packed squishy sandwiches. Everything melding together and all warm… I think it may be that comforting “picnic” feel that I love.)
So glad Disneyland was peanut-free friendly!
At Blend, let’s go to Chipotle every day. Kay? Kay. (This is going to be on top of all the food they give us, because FOOD.)
I always feel really classy eating out of paper things. (Note the sarcasm.) But I’ve found that desserts out of paper cups tend to taste better than desserts on regular plates. This is a totally scientific experiment that I’ve conducted over the past 2.5 years of college. π
Waitβ¦ what??! YOU’RE GOING TO BLEND!?! Happy dancing up in here!!
Can’t believe you didn’t have any cinnamon for those oats! I’m happy you still got some good eats, and sorry about stupid peanuts- at least you were able to load up on some of your favorites to take home!
I will always get bagel + veggie cream cheese while I am on vacation..and coffee. Its my vacay combination or something. That BBQ pizza looks sooo good. Fav thing at Chipotle – everything but I usually stick with the burrito bowl with extra hot sauce and a dollop of guac.
Oh wow, I’m drooling. That steak salad!! It’s huge and looks amazing.
I think I could eat that breakfast daily, If we only had bagels here – and if so glutenfree ones. Dreaming.
Atypical breakfast for me is cereal π I know, I know, I’m so sorry, but cereal is something I just never crave. I actually have some buckwheat flakes at home now which I ate yesterday. Did I just say this is atypical me? But well, buckwheat flakes aren’t really cereal. More cardboard pieces.
That steak salad looks delicious and I am incredibly jealous you got Chipotle! I know they have a couple in Canada but apparently traveling 5 hours is a little excessive for a burrito π
That’s what I’ve been told too, but I think I’m just talking to the wrong peopleβ¦ blends would totally understand π
The steak salad looks amazing! I haven’t had a good steak in a while. At Chipotle I typically get a chicken bowl or chicken tacos. I’ve actually never tried a burrito from there before!
When I was at Disneyland over the summer with Christian, we always ate our meals in the park. If you ever go to California Adventure, make sure you go to Flo’s Cafe in Cars Land. SUCH great American diner food!!
A typical breakfast for me involve eggs in some shape or form and almond butter – breakfast really is the best!
Hmmm, its 4.30pm here in the UK and I’m already craving breakfast! Ahhh!
That’s what breakfast for dinner is for π I have it at least a few times a week, and it’s always my absolute favourite.
I actually had a very a-typical breakfast this morning- a doughnut! Wayy to much sugar for me but it looked so good I couldn’t say no! Would you believe that I have never been to Chipotle?! I need to change that soon.
hahaha, i “ninja” honey from starbucks too! and sometimes napkins for my car… shh…
just out of curiosity.. how do USA starbucks cappucinos compare to canadian ones? i don’t know why but i feel like canadian ones would taste so much better.. or with better milk lol.
It’s honestly hard to tell because of the variation among baristas. I will say that the best tasting ones have always come from home turf though π
An atypical breakfast for me would be waffles, pancakes, potatoes… stuff like that!
Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail π
An atypical breakfast for me would be a skillet of some sort or some pastry (including bagels) or anything with potatoes.
Don’t feel bad, I NEVER finish anything at Chipotle in one sitting. I love it…because then it means I get another meal/day out of eating it π I typically get a veggie burrito bowl and make sure that they put the guac on it (it comes included in the meal price for vegetarian bowls) π
I still haven’t had chipotle.. I am under a rock!;) eats look so good <3
An atypical breakfast would be …. A nutri grain bar? I can’t believe that actually passed for breakfast back when I thought restricting calories was the way to go!
Oh girl I hear you on that oneβ¦ I also went through a Poptarts phase π―
I am glad you had a good time on travel. It all looks pretty good. I must be in the minority but I’ve always found Chipoltle to not be filling enough. I normally have to add more things to get enough food.
The only real atypical breakfast for me would be not having breakfast or oatmeal actually. Everytime I’ve eaten oatmeal I’m always hungry an hour later…so I stopped with that long ago. I guess it makes it atypical for me.
Minnie ears!
Whichever movie that quote is from – I’m always bad at naming them whenever a blogger asks for them – it’s really cute. Not so cute: your peanut allergy. Why the fizzle do they have to sneak into just about every food? When I mailed you I’d originally planned to send a little package with a few bars, chocolate or the likes but I swear everything I picked up had a peanut [traces] warning so I decided not to risk anything.
Your atypical breakfast would be my atypical breakfast, too. Even back in the day I can’t remember I’ve ever eaten anything like it for breakfast. Lunch, maybe. But not for my first meal. A random odd note: my sister has eaten cold [homemade] potato salad several times before in previous years. I’m not sure she’d still go for it … but you never know.
Savory breakfasts are totally not me also! Fun fact: I don’t like potatoes OR bacon. Occasionally I’ll have eggs with breakfast but they always have to be with something sweet like oats or nut butter! And I’ve never had Chipotle. I know I’m missing out. I just don’t have one near me! π You seriously had some yummyyummy eats on your trip!!
YEAH! You got your Chipotle fix π I opt for the salad with black beans, corn salsa, mild salsa, fajita veggies, and a big heaping of guac. There’s NO way I could eat an entire burrito unless I was a starvin’ Marvin. They are the size of tiny babies. Lol
Your breakfast looks AWESOME. And your right, when in California (vacation)… It’s just right to eat a breakfast like this one! I still wish you could have gotten Mickey Mouse pancakes!!!
And I’m sorry for your food allergies π I really hope it’s true they are researching a way to fight them!
π at the tiny babies. It actually reminded me of holding a tiny puppyβ¦ whiiiiich is actually super disturbing now that I think about it π―
I’m totally drooooling right now! All of your food looks so delicious!
An atypical breakfast for me is a savory dish. I don’t usually go for eggs and such in the mornings. I’m usually an oatmeal or pancake kinda gal. As much as I LOVE eggs, bacon, and all that jazz, and I usually save those for brunch, lunch, or dinner!
Go-to Chipotle order: their salad loaded with chicken, veggies, black beans, brown rice, cheese, and guac!
I still can’t be live Ive never eaten at that bakery. I think I got a bagel the 1st time I ever went to Disneyland back in the day, but I can’t even remember what kind I got or if I liked it. Shame shame! All that food looks beyond amazing!
I love vacation food. Something about just tastes better…maybe because I relax a lot and have what I want without overthinking…better about that in real life too thankfully, but it seems a lot easier on vacation. I think a completely un Caitlin breakfast would either be yogurt and fruit/granola or a breakfast sandwich. Not a huge yogurt fan (although I love granola) and as much as I enjoy bagels/English muffins/toast and eggs, I don’t like them together as a sandwich. I’m a weird one but I’m ok with that π
I am glad you got your Chipotle fix! I think sometimes I take for granted the fact that there are multiple locations where I live. I really need to eat there more often.
I have a dairy allergy, and I also have fears of eating out. I do it, but most of the time it’s the same restaurants that have already proven safe.
I can definitely relate. As much as I -want- to be able to go out and enjoy a meal with friends/family, the experience is usually a lot more stressful than enjoyable π
Soooo much good food. It makes me want to go on vacation! I like how you alternated salad, pizza, salad, pizza hahaha Its all about balance!
You were smart for packing some sandwiches for Disney. Food inside is so expensive! I guess I don’t know exactly how Disneyland is, but in Disney World, once you are inside, you don’t leave until it’s night time and you’re ready to go home. So you’re stuck either paying $10 for a slice of pizza and a water or you have to bring your own stuff!
Such a carbalicious vacation! Carbs are by far my favorite food group (yep, I’m bundling them alll together!Haha…) and it looks like you enjoyed some delicious ones in California π I’m also loving the Chipotle <3 I may be eating a steak 'n guac Chipotle salad as I type this π
I’m salivating! This all looks amazing!
That BBQ pizza and the steak salad look really tasty! That bakery looks like a serious vacate win. I’m an egg girl all the way. They can be savory or sweet. On vacation I love scrambled eggs from diners and whatnot. Weird but I never get the same consistency as they do!!
Have a great day! π
I’m glad you got your Chipotle fix! It is rare to be able to eat one of those burritos in one sitting. The first breakfast pictured is definitely more me, savory all the way! But the pizza, salads, and bread are definitely SUPER me as is the QUIZNO’S sub. I am in love with Quizno’s!
It’s fun to eat out while on vacation, but that feeling of getting home to your own kitchen and “normal food” again is the best, isn’t it?!
An atypical breakfast for me would be one without fruit – that just doesn’t happen!
Yesss — I was so happy to come back home and not have to make oatmeal with the coffee maker anymore π
POTATOES FOR BREAKFAST? You are amazing. Bring them back into rotation. Do it. Those pizzas look so good at 7.16 in the morning….especially the chicken one! I’m glad you found a way to eat out while being an allergic chicken.
I’ll let tomorrow’s ToL post tell you what my favourite (mock) chipotle meal is.
PS seriously, potatoes for breakfast. Do it.
Do you think I could mix potatoes and oatmeal? And am I crazy for thinking that it doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all?
I have fond memories of a cheesy omelette and a delicious chai from La Brea last time I went to Disneyland π I have a close friend with a peanut allergy and the only place I’ve ever seen him speak out about it is at Chinese restaurants so I didn’t know it was such a big deal!
I’m craving pizza now!
Oh I should have suggested the Pizza Press! Customizable pizzas!
Very randomly I’ll crave a savoury breakfast! Never bacon though cause I’m not a bacon fan but eggs and toast for sure!
Though for breakfast this morning I ate my pie. Actually I ate half the pie cause I was upset the pictures didn’t turn out and had no patience to re-photograph!
Wait are you in California again??
I was last week — I’m back home now.
I love that you made oatmeal in a coffee cup – I wish I had had that trick when I went to Canada!
All of your eats look so good, especially the bread and the pizza π
I may be overreacting, but–sooooooo weird to see such an un-Amandafied breakfast! And food in general! It’s always nice to break out of the norm though, isn’t it? And girllll next time steal Sbux’s cinnamon too! haha just kidding. Your hotel room breakfast reminds me of our honeymoon in Kauai because in order to save money we (more like I) ate cold muesli with packs of pb and stuff. π The cheapest way to travel!
i’m proud of you for doing this for yourself! i think we could all use a days of eats like this every once in a while.
btw..you have great taste in movies, obviously! definitely one of the best.movies.ever.made.
Also the one I quote on the most regular basis π
Woah is that the first savoury breakfast to be featured on Spoons?! I agree I like to go the eggs/bacon/hash browns route every so often when I’m out, but I definitely prefer my sweet breakfasts!
That bakery looks fantastic – I would have gone back multiple times too!
I’m so addicted to those apple chips! Especially when dipped into Annie’s Choice drippy cashew macadamia butter. So good! Would you believe me if I said I’ve never been to Chipotle? Really, I haven’t! People seem to be crazy about it though!
You didn’t prepare me for the amount of deliciousness that was displayed in this post, girl!
You had me swooning and mouth watering over my keyboard just scrolling down your pictures. π
I think a vacation is in order to California to indulge on some of the food you ate. Having some hardball cravings now!
Oh my gosh, my dream is one day to try Chipotle! That burrito looked so good as did all of your trip eats! Darn allergies π but it didn’t look like they held you back from some really great food! I wish I was in California right now… COLD GO AWAY!
Can you believe that I was actually a little cold in Cali? It was in the low to mid 20’s, but definitely not the kind of heat I was craving!
Girl, down here in the south that breakfast could easily be an everyday occurrence, but luckily not for me- I’m not against it, but my belly couldn’t handle it.
I always feel a little crazy when I have a breakfast like that also, rebel status. π I’m glad you were able to eat well and enjoy your trip!
Im am salivating over the BBQ chicken. I had to comment as I found your blog yesterday and have been pinning your food pics! Then I read your ‘about’ page and can see you have a difficult and also inspiring story. Take care.
Hey, did you know that you can take any kind of almonds and make almond butter out of them.. I just recently did dark chocolate almonds and it turned out good!!! I just put them in a food processor or blender (3 cups) and blend for a little bit.. had to stop ocasionally and push the nuts down and then keep blending.. eventually about 10-15 min. later it starts looking like almond butter!!!!! Also have you tried flavored honey? I have a store near by that sells cinnamon, blueberry, raspberry, lemon, and some more flavored honey..
Hi Sarah! I’ve heard about making almond butter, but I haven’t given it a try yet — I think I might have to if I keep being unable to find my favourites, though. And YES to flavoured honeys… I get mine at the farmers’ market and they’re fantastic.
Ahhhhhh! MONTY PYTHON!!! Haha! Love it! *clears throat* Bring me….a SHRUBBERY! π
I have to say, girlie, I could NOT believe my eyes when I saw that breakfast on Instagram…Amanda? Eating a savory breakfast? Quick, DUCK! I think I see some pigs flying up ahead! But seriously woman, haven’t you learned your lesson with the cinnamon?? That is the FIRST thing that goes in your bag…always! You’ll be glad to know that there has never been a shortage of the stuff at Blend though! And hey, I re-cog-inize that italian sausage flatbread! π I swear if I ever venture that way one day, I’ll have to see what La Brea is all about!
There’s that Chipotle and I’m proud of you for getting a burrito with cheese. Those things are bigger than my head and way too much food, although I always seem to finish them. Eep.
I love your non-Spoon like breakfast. It looks like my weekend breakfasts when I’ve got time to put something (other than a smoothie π ) together. You can’t go wrong with potatoes and eggs, although you can always top those taters with cheese for some extra yum.
Those pizzas and salads are singing to me as well.
Oh and vacation eats are absolutely a reason for coloring outside the WIAW lines. Perfectly justifiable.
So Im sitting here re-stalking your blog (please don’t think I’m a creeper…I was actually looking for something you posted a while back) and I just saw your ending statement and can’t believe I didn’t catch it the 1st time I commented.
Monty Python in Search Of The Holy Grail!!
