chocolate, coffee, puppies, & books (ToL#183)

May 19, 2016 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 88 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Can’t stop, won’t stop! The banana ice cream obsession continues, only this time with cocoa powder and cacao nibs for a double dose of chocolate and some crunch <- 🔑. I ran out of raspberries or there would have been some of those guys hanging out in there too…

Chocolate Banana Ice Cream

2. Speaking of banana ice cream… and chocolate… and raspberries… have your eyeballs seen the banana ice cream breakfast parfait I posted yesterday? Because it’s kind of the perfect addition to your summer breakfast rotation seeing as it’s nice and cool and super easy to make. Not to mention nutritious and delicious. Just saying.

Breakfast Parfait

3. So I think the barista had a little finger slip up while taking my order the other day…

Call Me Qmanda

Just call me Q-manda 💁🏻 Or “Quanda” as another barista called out when my drink was ready. But, really… call me whatever you want as long as you feed me coffee.

4. And while we’re talking typos… I’ve been making more than my fair share of them recently too, and I 100% blame it on the fact that my nails are getting way too long, which makes typing super awkward. I also can’t get cream out of a jar without getting a tonne of it stuck under my nail, and I’m a little paranoid about gouging my eyeballs out whenever I handle my contacts. I’m thinking it might be time to cut them.

Long Nails

5. That being said, the sound of nails being clipped has got to be one of my least favourite sounds in the world. It ranks right up there with loud chewing/swallowing and listening to people be judgmental/hypocritical. Don’t do that sh*t around me! 😡

6. DO feel free to follow me on Snapchat where I’m constantly showing off my productivity #skillz, though 😂

Procrastinating Snaps

(username: runningspoons)

7. And on Pinterest where I spent a good hour tinkering with the covers of my boards…

Pinterest Boards

BUT! Pinterest is kind of part of my job, and presentation is important, so I was basically working 😜

8. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I’m still biking [almost] everywhere… even if it’s only to the store to pick up ONE zucchini that I needed for a recipe 😂

One Zucchini

9. What I’m wondering is whether or not I should buy a new collar for Ky. She’s had the same one for… ever?… and while it’s all worn out and faded, I’m thinking it’s probably also worn in and comfy… like that favourite pair of jeans with all the holes in them that you just can’t bring yourself to get rid of because they wear so well… ya know?! My little Ky-ote (and her ratty collar)… on her posturepedic puppy mat 😂

Little Kyote

10. Also! Before I forget, I wanted to thank everyone who left me book recommendations! I’ve got them all jotted down and I’ll be picking a bunch of them up the next time I’m in the bookstore… which hasn’t happened yet just because it’ll probably take me close to an hour to bike there 😂 But in case you’re in need of a new read, here’s a list of the ones that were mentioned! (all links go to Goodreads)

Secondhand Souls by Christopher Moore.
The Martian by Andy Weir.
Red Rising (trilogy) by Pierce Brown.
Fall of Giants by Ken Follett.
The Lake House by Kate Morton (<- I’m assuming since no author was given)
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.
Landline by Rainbow Rowell.
The Legend of Sam Miracle (“The Outlaws of Time” series) by N. D. Wilson.
100 Cupboards (series) by N. D. Wilson.
The City of Bones (“The Mortal Instruments” series) by Cassandra Clare.
The Lightning Thief (“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series) by Rick Riordin.
The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton.
The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George.

Holy.snap that’s quite the list. You guys rock my socks off 😍 And I’ll see you hip cats (ehh?) in a couple days with a recipe featuring that aforementioned zucchini. I think. Either way, stay awesome!

I definitely second the Time Traveler’s Wife. It’s one of my favorite books–very human, pretty heart-wrenching, and very, very romantic.
Q-manda’s kind of cute, actually. Maybe that could be your new nickname?

I can’t handles my nails that long – I would so go crazy. Which is unfortunate, because they look really nice long, but they just drive me mad. And kudos for leaving the grocery store with just one thing. I definitely don’t remember the last time I managed that 😂

I wish I could grow my nails out. I bite or pick at mine all the time. I need to paint them more often, that seems to help me stop but I’ve been too lazy to paint.

I used to do that all the time when I was younger! I have no idea how I stopped, but painting them definitely helped break the habit.

My poor Little Bear has had the exact same color since we got her 7 years ago.It really doesn’t suit her at all, but we rarely have the colors on them so I guess it doesn’t matter much? I do feel kind of bad about it though because its so ugly!
And seriously, thats all you bought at the store? Psh even if I dont need them and any fruit is on sale I will stock up on that stuff. I bought both blueberries and strawberries yesterday because they were 3 for $5. I just coudlnt say no!

My cue to when I need to file down my nails is when I risk scratching my eye taking my contacts out. I’ve done that before, so I need to keep those nails reasonable, which means my other nails need to match.

There is this super gross guy who cuts his fingernails at WORK. AT WORK. And it’s not like a once every week or two thing. He like gives them a little trim every day or two. Like what the heck. As I’m sure you could guess he’s also the guy who comes to the office when sick and doesn’t cover his mouth when he sneezes. It’s literally the worst. And I fear being near him.

I hate the sound of people chewing. I can’t deal. I also hate it when someone scratches their fork/knife across their plate. I never have issues with my nails getting too long but I do make my fair share of typos. And why is it that it’s like some days there’s no issue and other days I can’t type anything correctly? I also forget how to type if someone is watching me. It’s a guaranteed way for me to mess up whatever I’m doing!

Maybe it’s an anxiety thing? I notice that on days where I’m feeling a little more anxious or stressed, I can’t type or write as well… probably because my muscles are all tensed up. And I -hate- having people watch me write or sign my name. I get all nervous 😆

Read the Time Traveler’s Wife. It’s awesome. One of my favorite books. But thanks for the list, because I’ll need something to read in my upcoming travels — I’m assuming I’ll finish up the Divergent series before I leave, or midway or something.

We do get the dogs new collars every now & again. I think we’re on the second or third for Lola; she’s 10.

What about cracking fingers? Or other joints? I’m afraid I do it all the time. Clippers don’t bother me. The tv really bothers me if I’m not watching. I make my husband turn it off when we’re eating, or even if I’m eating. Or if I’m still reading in the morning & he gets up early. It kills me that if he has the chance, he eats with it on!

I’m the same way with TV. I don’t like having it on as background noise, especially if I’m trying to work. But cracking joints doesn’t bother me for some reason. Maybe because I grew up with a lot of guy friends and they did it all the time?
