. thinking out loud #112 .

January 8, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 85 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Thank you guys so much for all of the amazing comments and e-mails you sent me in response to my Thoughts on Turning 30 post. It’s never easy to bare your soul and make yourself vulnerable, which probably explains why I wrote, published, and refused to acknowledge that post for the next 1.5 days πŸ˜† But after [finally] manning up and reading your comments — gah! Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you. There’s a huge comfort in knowing that so many other people can relate to what you’re going through, and while I wouldn’t exactly say that I was feeling hopeless before, I definitely feel more at peace now. You guys are the rockers of socks. Much love to you. Much love.

2. Speaking of love… ermagherd it’s hereeeeee!!!

Planner in Box

The FedEx guy became my favourite person in the world (after you guys) yesterday morning when he handed me the box containing my Erin Condren Life Planner. Patience is not my strongest suit, and waiting for that thing was seriously the longest two weeks of my life (read: not really). I’m definitely going to review it after I’ve had a chance to use it for a while, but for now I can say that I am in love.

Erin Condren Life Planner

3. Oh, and in case you need more evidence that patience is not the best of my virtues, you need only look at my bottom lip, where you’ll see me rocking a lovely blister that I got from burning myself on roasted potatoes. This is my life. I’ll save you the pleasure of seeing my burned lip in all its scabby glory, and instead show you the potatoes responsible for my embarrassment…

Roasted Potatoes

4. At least it’s not the kind of embarrassment that these poor dogs are probably feeling πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7znI_Kpzbs&w=576&h=315″]

5. Speaking of dogs… if you love adorable ones, then I highly suggest you follow speedyboyboy on Instagram. I mean… that face (read: that tongue). I can’t even handle the cuteness.

SpeedyBoyBoy

6. Nor can I handle the cuteness of these stickers that I picked up from Michael’s the other day.

Ridiculously-Cute-Stickers

I mean… omg.squeeeee.whaaaat?!? I promised myself that I wouldn’t fall into the trap of becoming a planner junkie, but… I’ve fallen into the trap and became a planner junkie, complete with cute stickers, washi tapes, coloured pens, and all. In all fairness, though, this is something that I’ve always loved (I was crazy crafty when I was younger), and it’s nice to see that side of me starting to stir again. Maybe I’ll even tackle some DIY projects.

7. I should probably spend some time taking down my Christmas decorations first, though. I’m usually fine with leaving them up a few weeks into January, but they’re really starting to get to me for some reason this year, and I just want them gone. I’ve been slowly picking away at them and taking down a few pieces each day, but this weekend they’ll be gone for good.

Naked Tree

8. Newwwwwp. Scratch that. I won’t be home this weekend because… I’m going to the mountains to do some snowboarding! Squee!! I was hoping to get out last weekend for my birthday, buuuuuut this happened…

Minus 30 for 30

So, yeah. My birthday is notorious for always being one of the coldest days of the year (there was a running joke that it was -30 for my 30th), and I don’t know about you guys, but I wasn’t feeling up for losing my nose, fingers, and toes to frostbite. Thankfully it’s starting to warm up nicely, so if you need me, I’ll be flying down the slopes.

9. Either that or on the treadmill! I haven’t had a chance to talk about some of the goals I made for myself this year [yet], but one of them is to start running more consistently and eventually get to the point where I can run 5k with no problem. Running has been one of those things that I’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship with for longer than I care to admit, and it’s starting to bother me that it’s become of those things I haven’t been able to conquer… so I’m doing something about it! And yes… I realize that a goal of 5k by the end of the year isn’t exactly a lofty one, but that’s the entire point. I’m notorious for getting all gung-ho about something and going way too hard, way too fast, so I’m taking it slow this time around in hopes that making it less painful will make it last. Right now I’m following the Couch to 5k running program, and so far so good!

10. Is that all? I think that’s all. Okay. Bye! πŸ˜€

Yay the planner is in! My daughter just said as were both sitting in the den drinking coffee and on the computers and doing our morning chat her’s is probably in (at school, boo hoo she goes back Sunday). I’m training for a 5k also, I run/walk the treadmill everyday and figured I better just put my big girl pants on and go for it! Have a wonderful weekend Amanda, be safe snowboarding.

I just got my planner in the mail. I got the personal planner after seeing you talk about it. I love it! I’m also totally geeking out about recording everything, though I don’t have stickers. But I might have to now.

I just took all of my decorations down. I had planned to leave them up a few weeks and then I just decided one morning that they needed to be down NOW. That spot in my house looks bare now, even though there was nothing there before. Weird. I am constantly burning my lip and/or tongue because I eat things that come from a boiling pan or straight from the oven. I have no patience either, especially when it comes to food.

Have fun snowboarding!! -30 is seriously beyond my imagination. I was already damning the temps here the past few days when we had about -5. I mean, cycling with frozen breaks is not particularly funny πŸ™‚

Oh my goodness, those dogs. So embarrassingly cute! Unlike me, who is just plain embarrassing.
I also kind of LOVE how you’re going all out with your planner. Inspire me with your ways! I’ve lost touch with my planner because I just use my phone calendar more often than not. I need to get back into the classic pen and paper!
Speaking of getting back into things, that is so awesome that you’re taking on running again slowly and steadily. That’s the only way I can do it too, because running has never been my favorite. I honestly don’t think it ever will be my favorite, but I’d love to incorporate it into my fitness routine more!

I think a lot of it has to do with making it easy enough so that you don’t end up burning out and hating it. At least that’s what I’m hoping for!

Yay for your planner finally coming in!!! And I’m the same way, not patient at all, when I have a package coming I track that thing until it reaches my hands! And yay for running a 5k! I don’t see anything wrong with making it your goal to run a 5k by the end of the year. It’s all about making the goals do-able πŸ™‚

Haha – what is it with dogs being scared of something half their size??? Funny story, we have a stray chunky neighborhood cat (I swear he plays the pity card at every house and every one feeds him) – well, he seems to love my daughter and everytime she is outside, he manages to come by – but our Newfoundland Mix (Ollie) also loves my daughter and HATES anyone coming near her – so as soon as that cat comes near her, Ollie gives chase – but when the cat stops at the driveway and decides not to budge – Ollie freaks out and runs back on to the porch with his tail between his legs – Ollie never seems to learn as this has happened so many times!!!
    Happy Thursday!!!

-30 degrees?! It’s like 15 degrees down here in VA today and everyone is FREAKING out. Including me, haha.
I take my Christmas decorations down pretty much as soon as Christmas is over. I hate how bare the house looks after, but then I start to like how clean it is and ready for the new year.

I definitely have the years when the Christmas decorations stay up for awhile and then the years when they MUST come down IMMEDIATELY. It’s kind of funny how that changes year-to-year. We have Christmas lights up in the RV but they’re staying up permanently but the stockings were definitely down the next day…lol

I always burn my tongue when I try to drink hot tea. I don’t like to wait for it to cool down. Then after I burn my tongue I wait forever for it to cool down and then it is room temp, which kind of defeats the purpose of hot tea…
Good luck with your goal to run a 5K! That is going to be my goal some year in the near future. It may not seem like much to some, but I can’t even run a mile without stopping so it would be a huge accomplishment for me as well.

You can do the 5k. I recommend a lot of people to use couch to 5k. They’ve had much success with it too! I also recommend starting out walking. It’s much easier if you can walk a 5k at a 12 or 13 pace then progress to running. Either way I’m sure you’ll rock it!!!

I’m always burning my mouth due to lack of patience! The worst is when I keep going anyway and wind up in pain for days. What was the point of that? Also I relate to that feeling of publishing a personal post! Ultimately, it has always left me feeling a bit more “healed” than I did before publishing. Knowing other people relate to difficult feelings is priceless πŸ™‚
