April 4, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 110 Comments

Ahoy hoy! (Eh? I don’t know. Just go with it)

I can’t believe that I was packing my bags for Hawaii the last time I sat down to write one of these posts. Actually, I can’t believe that it’s only been a month since I was there — it feels like forever ago 😯 Which is actually kind of strange seeing as March in general felt like it went by in the blink of an eye. But I digress…

Point is, it’s April which means it’s time for another currently post! No tropical vacations on the horizon this time around, but I do have a few exciting things coming up, so let’s take a look at life as I currently know it…

. – . – . – .

Current book: I’m kind of between books right now. I haven’t picked up anything new since finishing Blood Song, so I’ve just been randomly picking away at books that I’ve already read… and lately I’ve been in the mood for some lighter fare…

Chick Lit

Current music: Dark Horse by Katy Perry. I know I’m way behind on the times with this one, and while I’ve heard this song plenty of times before, lately it just keeps getting stuck in my head. Also… have you seen the video of it being sung in 20 different styles? Guy’s got skills!

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jus7S5vBJyU&w=560&h=315″]

Current guilty pleasure: Binge watching season 3 of Game of Thrones. I only have a few more days to catch up on the last season before the new one starts, and I must watch ALL the shows… so my apologies if I disappear off the face of the [blog] world for a little while.

Game Of Thrones S3

Current nail colour: Urban Decay’s Addiction with a pink accent nail. Not the most springy setup, but that’s okay because spring kind of forgot about us anyways…

UD Addiction

Current drink: Coffee. More specifically, Pike Place with a splash of milk from my new office. No matter how many different coffees and coffee shops I try, this is the brew that I keep coming back to. Also, I’m going to go against the grain here and say that I prefer hot coffee over iced coffee. I know everyone is anxiously awaiting the arrival of warmer weather so they can bust out the icy drinks, but I’ll be sipping my hot coffee and cranking the AC, thank.you.very.much.

Pike Place

Current food: Chickpeas. Every day, every way.

Chickpeas

Current obsession: See above… and below…

Honey Almond Roasted Chickpeas6

Crunchy Honey Almond Roasted Chickpeas

Current wish: That Mini Eggs didn’t contain traces of peanuts. They used to be my absolute favourite Easter candy and I’d look forward to stocking up on them all year long. That is, until a few years back when SLAP — “may contain traces of peanuts.” Easter just hasn’t been the same since then.

Mini Eggs

Current need: A new memory card for my DSLR. I maxed out my storage space about 2 months ago and I keep planning on buying a new one but I’ve fallen into the habit of just deleting old pictures instead. I hope it won’t come back to bite me in the a**, but really… how many pictures of oatmeal does a girl need? Now if only I could do the same kind of cleaning sweep to my phone.

Pic Library

Current triumph: Finally filing my taxes! Pretending to be Being a grown-up is hard work.

Current bane of my existence: Wonky sleep. My sleeping patterns have been all over the place lately. Sometimes they’re more-or-less normal and I can sleep until 5 or 5:30, and then sometimes I just start waking up at 3 or 4 AM for a few days in a row for no reason at all. When that happens, I’ll get out of bed for a few hours to blog or work, and then fall back asleep for another hour or so at around 6 or 7. Like I said… wonky.

Sheep Teddy

Current indulgence: My daily trip to Starbucks. I know I can make coffee at home for a fraction of the cost, but I just enjoy getting my work done in a coffee shop. That and coffee always seems to taste better when it’s made by someone else.

Current procrastination: Okay this is embarrassing, but I still haven’t renewed my passport… which, if you remember, is something that I mentioned all the way back in February 😳 I’ll be doing it this month for sure though, seeing as my passport expires in May and I kind of need it if I want to go to Blend in June… which I do.

Passport

Current blessing: Afternoon naps. Or mid-morning naps. Or, really, just naps in general. I don’t have to take them too, too often, but when I need them, they’re lifesavers.

Current excitement: Three words… Winter is coming [this Sunday night] πŸ˜€

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZY43QSx3Fk&w=560&h=315″]

Current mood: Giddy! The weather is getting warmer (sort of), the days are getting longer, and the air just has a certain lightness to it. That and it’s my mom’s birthday this weekend which means one very important thing… cake πŸ˜€

Delicious Birthday Cake

Current link: Pinterest… Gotta find inspiration for that cake somewhere!

Guilty Pleasure – staying up late…but I’m trying to embrace my current work situation so sometimes late nights, whether spent being a little productive or just watching Netflix, are pretty amazing.
Food – Hmm…going to stick with sweet potatoes. I want them every.damn.day.
Drink – I’m loving my little treats of the Valencia Orange refreshers at Starbucks + the FitAid drinks we have at our CrossFit gym.
    Bane of Existence – looking for a ‘grown-up’ job…or one that I’m a bit happier at =/
Procrastination – sleep, my to-do list, and job searching.

By the way…these are one of my favorite posts. =)

Happy and blessed birthday to Momma Spoons!! She certainly knows what’s up considering she has a daughter that makes all her readers smile on the daily πŸ˜€
    Current:
    1) Guilty pleasure: vanilla frozen custard from Shake Shack that I had last night. The creaminess was unreal.
    2) Food: Chipotle! Just had some for the first time yesterday. One bowl lasted me THREE meals. I guess I went a little heavy on the…everything.
    3) Drink: agua.
    4) Bane of existence: having to get up early all weekend.
    5) Procrastination: Typing this πŸ˜‰

Happy Birthday Mama Spoons, we April ladies rock πŸ˜‰ !

And now a quicky before I face plant in ALL my Disney pictures: I love the nail polish and I think it goes great with the slightly pink accent nail. And I did really hop to manage getting through the GoT seasons before season 4 starts, since I have been super late to the party. But I just made it until the end of season two πŸ™ guess I have to wait for a bit and cover my ears when it comes to the start of season 4.

i definitely prefer hot coffee too! there’s something about sipping a warm cup of black coffee (slightly sweetened with stevia) that’s so comforting for me πŸ™‚

    1) guilty pleasure: lighting candles… pretty much EVERYDAY.. which means i go through alot of candles…
    2) food: i’ve been really digging smoked salmon lately! so salty & buttery… perfect with avocado πŸ™‚
    3) drink: kombuchaaaaa.
    4) bane of existence: i am notorious for having bad sleep as well! i try to take melatonin without being dependent on it.. and it seems like it works, but i feel like i wake up drowsy πŸ™ i find it manageable when i wake up ~4 am, but it really sucks when i wake up around 2 am and can’t go back to sleep… i pretty much end up eating out of boredom…
    5) procrastination: painting my toes.. it’s not warm enough for sandals yet πŸ˜›

SO excited for GoT too! I can’t wait to reunite with my husband… err Jon Snow.

I prefer my coffee hot too – preferably Irish cream flavoured with a couple splashes of 2% milk. That’s been my latest drink of choice at the hospital!

Current guilty pleasure: The Roz and Mocha Show on Kiss 92.5 in the mornings – those guys seriously make me look forward to my commute to the hospital haha.

Current food: Eating a bowl of oatmeal for a late lunch right now!

    Current drink: See above

Current bane of my existence: The fact that I need to start applying to jobs soon. Eek!

    Current procrastination: Pinterest. Always.

Ahhh cake! Cake errrrday, if i could afford the damage it could do to my body if I WERE to eat it everyday, haha. Can I come over? πŸ˜€
And my current guilty pleasure is actually food–fresh whipped cream made in the magic bullet! Oh mannnn is that stuff good and EXACTLY like the real stuff as if made in the stand mixer. It leaves no mess so it’s really convenient. And I feel like we are truly so alike!!! I loooove hot coffee and drinks a lil more over iced one, and even when it’s scorching hot I still manage to get myself a hot cup of coffee–but I still make exceptions every now and then. Selah made my hormones all sorts of crazy and now I’m constantly hot, haha.

That cake looks incredible! My boyfriend is having the same sleeping pattern at the moment, I feel so bad for him πŸ™ Wish there was something I could do.

Do you prefer your coffee hot or iced? > I love BOTH! But if I had to choose one of course it would be hot.

    Give me your current:
    1) … guilty pleasure. > Anything dipped in peanut butter at the moment.
    2) … food. > Obsessed by fruit at the moment. Not sure if all this sugar is good for me (my skin is totally disagreeing with something, and it may be all the sugar) but yum.
    3) … drink. > Coffee. Really good Columbian coffee.
    4) … bane of existence. > Housework. Why can’t it just be done and never change? Why does dust happen? Why does my toilet need cleaning? Why do I need to hoover and mop and scrub? UGH.
    5) … procrastination. > Instagram. I can’t decide whether this is good or not – I do find it inspiring as I follow so many photographers, but one minute it’s 8am and the next it’s 8.20am and I’m running late for work…

For what it’s worth, I find that my skin starts to act up when I start eating too much fruit too. But it’s only with certain fruits… I can eat all the apples, bananas, and pears that I want, but when I start to get into things like melons, citrus, tropical, and berries, I run into problems.

    1) … shoes, and dresses from Boden
    2) … peanut butter (what can I say??)
    3) … oh great, now I’m going to forget the name … Izzy’s? It is a fizzy, all naturally sweetened drink – like soda, but “healthier” (as if soda could be healthy, don’t burst my bubble!

    2) … food…brown rice pasta. Really all types of pasta lately.

    4) … bane of existence…the weather. I desperately want spring like the rest of us.
