. cookies and milk are overrated .

April 28, 2013 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 73 Comments

I swear that everyone was talking about cookies on Friday. Blogs I was reading. People I was talking to. Commercials on TV. Cookies, cookies, cookies.ย Okay, so in reality the topic of cookies probably only came up about 3 or 4 times, but you know how when you want something, you suddenly start noticing it everywhere?

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Oh yes, friends, I was craving cookies big time, and with good reason too – I can’t even remember the last time I baked any ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Even looking through my blog archives didn’t really reveal much.ย ย All I know is that it’s been well over a month, and for a self-proclaimed cookie addict, that’s bordering well onto blasphemous.ย Sure, I can blame the neglect onย cakesย andย muffins,ย but there really is no excuse. So, in an effort to make up for my blunder (read: satisfy my sweet tooth), I baked…

Oatmeal Cookie Batter

I ran into some problems though… First, I didn’t know what kind of cookies to make. I knew I wanted oatmeal, but I didn’t know what I wanted to toss in. Chocolate chips were an obvious choice, butย – andย don’t laugh – so were raisins. Maybe I’m getting old, but oatmeal raisin cookies are becoming more and more appealing.ย Back in the day, I remember nearly having a fit whenever I’d bite into a raisin cookie thinking it was chocolate,ย but somewhere along the way, my hatred for wrinkly grapes was replaced by fondness, and now I may even prefer them – it really depends on the day. Luckily, there was a simple solution to my first problem – use chocolate chips in half the batch and raisins in the other.

Adding Chocolate
Adding Raisins
Cookies into the Oven
Cookies out of the Oven

My second problem was a bit more complicated. Everyone knows that warm cookies taste the best with cold milk, but… I didn’t have any milk on hand. I probably could have run over to my neighbor’s (read: Starbucks) and asked for a cup, but that would have risked the cookies going cold on me, which would have defeated the whole purpose.

Melty Chocolate Chip Cookie

Solution? Warm cookies and coldย ice cream…

Warm Cookies, Cold Ice Cream

Oh.Em.Gee. This may come across as blasphemous, but I’m going to go ahead and say it anyways. Cookies and milk are overrated. Cookies and ice cream is where it’s at.

Happy Sunday, friends!

. – . – . – .

Oatmeal cookies: with raisins or chocolate chips?
Do you lick the spoons/bowls even when raw eggs are involved?
I can’t do it. It’s so tempting, but my fear of food poisoning keeps me away.

Warm cookies and cold ice cream? YES. Those cookies look pretty fantastic. I’m a huge fan too lately of oatmeal raisin cookies. Particularly the oats though..I’ve been loving them in cookies! A cookie seems naked without them now.

These cookies look so delicious! Its hard for me to choose between raisins or chocolate chips as add ins, both are tasty! Cookies and icecream definitely sound like a great combination. I do lick the batter, even if raw eggs are involved. I do not hesitate at all when it is only egg whites, but I do hesitate when the yolk is involved (but I still do it). I have been food poisoned before, and I do have a fear of it happening again, but for some reason only when I am eating unknown food from a restaurant. I think for me the food poisoning fear has more to do with the unknown of not knowing what I got food poisoned from.

Yum.. love oatmeal cookies. I love chocolate chip and raisin together actually! It’s my fav.. best of both worlds..I’ve always loved raisins and used to trade halloween candy bars for my sis’s little boxes of raisins ๐Ÿ˜‰ And I don’t do milk with cookies, I used to have juice when I was a kid and now it’s tea alllll the way! And plain oatmeal cookies and dark chocolate coconut ice cream is an unreal combo, so I can see where you’re going with this ๐Ÿ™‚
Also, I don’t even like cookie dough.. I try it, it doesn’t scare me like it probably should but yeah, I’ve never understood the love for cookie dough.. think it’s a texture thing.. warm, melty cookies are where it’s at, for me anyways.

I’ve tried that before but the ice cream just ends up oozing out the side because the cookies are too thick ๐Ÿ™ I’ll have to try it with thinner cookies.

I’m an equal opportunist when it comes to chocolate chips V raisins in my oatmeal cookies :). Oats are pretty much a must though.
Did you ever consider the oatmeal raison choc chip cookie? (As in, raisins & chocolate in the one cookie)
Actually, I really love the combination of chocolate chips( or chunks!), dried cranberries , sunflower seeds and coconut, in my cookies.
Actually , I just really, really love cookies.

Oatmeal cookies with raisins AND chocolate chips, please. I love raisins. I actually used to hate them and couldn’t understand why anyone in their right mind would want to eat them plain. I was okay with oatmeal raisin cookies though, which is probably why they are one of my favorite cookies. I just find that they are often too sweet when purchased from stores. Oatmeal raisin cookies were always my favourite kind of cookie, even when I was very young. I think I must’ve been the only kid who preferred raisins to chocolate chips (and who still does at twenty). Oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips just don’t seem right to me and I don’t like them at all.

I’ve never been afraid of getting sick off of eggy cookie dough or cake batter. I always lick the spoon and it’s yet to make me ill.

I actually never eat cookies with milk..and never did growing up. I have hated plain milk my entire life so I didn’t want to waste a whole cup just to dunk my cookie. But I did have ice cream and cookies many times as a kid and cookie sandwiches are one of my favorite things. To sum it up, I 100% agree with you that cookies and ice cream > cookies and milk.

Love me some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! I do actually like them with raisins, too – it’s a very different kind of thing and obviously doesn’t work when I’m craving chocolate, but sometimes I’d pick them over chocolate chips. Combining them is genius though! Best of both worlds! And I totally agree – Cookies + ice cream is like 100000x better than cookies with milk. Chocolate chip cookies with a cappuccino though – now THAT’S where its at.

I’m a huge fan of oatmeal cookies in general, but I think I have to lean towards the chocolate side of things. But whenever I’m offered the choice between chocolate and something else, the answer is always chocolate (unless it’s ice cream. For whatever reason, chocolate ice cream doesn’t really do it for me)

And I’ve never been a fan of the cookies and milk combination. Probably because I’m not a big fan of milk! I only buy almond now, and that’s because I can buy the unsweetened flavoured varieties which are a little more palatable to me. I have regular milk in the fridge now that I needed for a recipe, and I’m pretty sure it’s the first time in about six months that I’ve had regular cow’s milk on hand.

And I always eat batter…I’m pretty sure I prefer raw cookie dough to the actual cookies. It’s probably slightly miraculous that I haven’t gotten salmonella by now, actually.
