. afternoon naps and other loves .

February 10, 2013 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 67 Comments

There are few things better than afternoon naps.

Chocolate is up there, obviously, as is coffee, a good book, non-clumping mascara, and rays of sunshine coming in through the window…

Sunshine

But afternoon naps? Mmm. Love ’em. Given that things have been pretty serious around these parts lately with all the talk of responsibility and what have you, I thought that I’d lighten things up today by switching gears and talking about some of the things that I love – a fitting topic seeing as Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, wouldn’t you say? You guys know I’m a sucker for surveys, and after seeing this one over on Caitlin’s blog a little while ago, I knew it was just a matter of time before it found itself on Spoons as well.

Hope you guys enjoy!

. – . – . – .

1) Valentine’s Candy I Love: I feel as though chocolate is the only reasonable answer to this question… especially because I can’t really think of anything other than those heart shaped ‘Be Mine’ candies and red cinnamon hearts that come out around this time of year. Seeing as I’m not really a fan of either of those, and my allergies keep me from enjoying most of the fancy boxed chocolates, I’m going to go with simple Hershey’s Kisses on this one – caramel or cookies ‘n’ Cream flavored.

2) Current Workout Jam I Love: As in, the songs that give my feet wings and make me walk a whole .3 mph faster than I normally do? Right now I’m really loving Oh Yeah by Siiines, and Drinking From the Bottle by Calvin Harris. Both songs make me want to rock out and dance, although that does become slightly problematic when I start trying to dance and walk on the treadmill at the same time. Hello accident waiting to happen.

3) Article of Clothing I Love: My scuba hoodie from Lululemon. I basically live in that thing.

Scuba Hoodie

4) Something Red I Love: Red gummy bears, red lipstick, red nails, and ketchup. Random? Yes. But you can’t deny that all of those things are fabulous. And if you try, then I’m afraid that… well… drat, there goes that train of thought.

5) Month I Love: August and December. December for obvious reasons, and August because it feels like the calmest and most relaxing month in my mind. You know the expression “the lazy days of summer?” That’s basically what August is to me – long, warm, relaxing days.

6) Piece of Advice I Love: This…

Be a Fruit Loop

Never be afraid to be yourself.

7) New (or old!) Blog I Love: This one is a toss up between Take A Moment and Smile and Sally’s Baking Addiction. Both are pretty much guaranteed to put a smile on your face – one with inspiring words and the other with delicious treats. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

8) Current Reading Material I Love: The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. After falling in love with the first book in the Kingkiller Chronicle series (you can read my review of The Name of the Wind here), moving on to the second book was the only natural choice. My thoughts so far? Just as good as the first.

9) A Memory I Love: All of them? Good. Bad. Neutral. It’s the collection of them all that I love.

10) “Chick Flick” I Love: The Devil Wears Prada, Mean Girls, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Coyote Ugly, Center Stage, Step Up, Serendipity, Must Love Dogs… Heck, chick flicks in general are all pretty good.

11) A Special Place in the World I Love: My immediate inclination was to go with somewhere far off and talk about all the great things that happened while I was on some random vacation, but after giving it a bit more thought, I’m going to have to go with something completely different. Home. At the risk of sounding cliche, there really is no place like home. As nice as it is to travel and experience the world, at the end of the day, it’s always nice to come home.

Quiet Evenings

12) Beauty Product I Love: Coconut oil…

Coconut Oil

I use it for everything. From moisturizing my skin and removing my makeup, to deep conditioning my hair, coconut oil is seriously a miracle worker when it comes to all things beauty related. But when it comes to actual product products… that’s actually something that I’ll be talking about in tomorrow’s post.

13) Nifty Website I Love: Thought Catalog is pretty much a guaranteed good read and always has some interesting things to think about. A few recent posts that I loved?

29 Ordinary Things That Instantly Make Your Day Better

24 Ways To Be A Better Person

21 Things We All Need

14) A Beautiful Blog Post I Love: Eep! I’m going to have to cop out on this one because I’m running late and can’t exactly think of any at the moment, so I’m going to just wish you all a beautiful Sunday instead.

See you tomorrow, friends! 😀

I never used to take naps before having surgery! Now I’ve taken one every day since then haha. I’ve never really felt the need and the few times I tried I just couldn’t fall asleep lol. Ah well. I never knew coconut oil had so many beauty powers either, I’ve only ever seen it used as food! It seems like it does so many things though, I bet it’d be a good bargain buy…and something that actually removes my mascara instead of leaving a dark shadow under my eyes every night would be real nice lol. As for red…red lipstick does NOT work for me!! Nor does nail polish!! I’ve tried so many times and I totally want to get that blonde-bombshell look but…I just can’t pull it off. Maybe I’m doing it wrong?? Or I should stick to pink. Yes to red gummies though, that’s the best flavor!

Red is a tricky one because there are so many different shades of it. I never used to think that I could pull off red either, but that’s just because I was picking the wrong color… There are orange reds, hot reds, pink reds, deep reds, cranberry reds… kind of mind boggling, which is part of the reason I think a lot of people tend to shy away from it. Then again, you can never really go wrong with pink… You could always try for a bolder pink look?

So you have great taste in movies–The Devil Wears Prada and Mean Girls are two of my favorite movies ever! I’m generally a big fan of chick flicks and rom coms, I’m not one for action or horror movies at all.

I used to be a huge fan of gummy candies when I was a kid, and gummy bears and gummy Lifesavers were my faves! I loved the clear gummy bears and the sour variety of the Lifesavers, especially green apple. But my least favorite flavors of any candy were always cherry, orange and lemon–I would always give those to someone else!

Looove this. You can never go wrong with Hershey’s Kisses. 😀 It’s not uncommon for me to spend 10 minutes perusing the chocolate aisle (sea salt? caramel? coconut? peanut butter?), only to become so overly stressed by my options, that I end up walking out of the store with a bag or two of kisses. They never let me down–in taste and cost (best bargain)! My favorite variety is hands down the macadamia kisses, which are sold exclusively in Hawaii (and online). I’m not sure if mac nuts are off limits for you, but if not, you *definitely* need to get your hands on a bag. 🙂

I’ve never been a fan of fruity candy (chocolate wins every time), but if it’s my only option, I always reach for the red pieces. As far as chick flicks go, a few favorites include: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Love Actually, The Holiday, and When Harry Met Sally. Reruns of Sex and the City *never* get old either!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend, Amanda! <3

Although I’m not a big gummy candy fan because I just don’t like the fruity flavors of stuff (chocolate is the way to go!), I always pick out the blue and red gummies 🙂

And I’m so not into chick flicks! I love action movies and horror movies…. well, horror movies are becoming cheesier, so not so much anymore… but yeah. I have to say though that I LOVED “Flipped” — not many people have seen it, but I love those kinds of coming-of-age stories in books and movies as well.

I’m currently loving the warming weather, a clean house, and the smell of chicken in the oven 😀

I love action movies too, but I tend to stay away from horror because then I can’t sleep. And I have to admit that I’m one of the people that have never seen Flipped… actually, I’ve never even heard of it. Might be something I’ll have to look into on a rainy (snowy) day 🙂

Hershey’s caramel or cookies ‘n cream kisses are my favourite Valentine’s Day candy too! And I just so happen to have both of them in my chocolate drawer right now…. yes I have a drawer devoted to chocolate. 😛

My favourite chick flicks are The Devil Wears Prada, You’ve Got Mail, 10 Things I Hate About You, Never Been Kissed, Mamma Mia, It’s Complicated, Love Actually, Clueless, and probably so many others that I can’t think of right now!

    Have a great Sunday!

You would be surprised how simple liquid liner can be! You don’t have to do it in smooth motion, just go with little strokes and fill in whatever you missed… and I always lean my elbow on the table to steady my hand. As for which one, I really like Revlon’s Colorstay for a liquid liner. It gives a nice defined line and doesn’t smudge all day.

I’d be SO in for a movie night 🙂 but you missed the ONE movie needing to be watched now: Valentine’s Day! Have you seen it yet?
Home truly is the best place to be especially when it involves spending time with your family. For me there are two homes: my flat and my parents’ place. But the latter still feels more homey with all cgildhood memories connected to it.

Favourite colour of fruity candy? I was actually sharing a box of Runts with Eric the other day (apparently, those still exist) and I was stealing all of the little strawberries and bananas…especially the bananas. So I’m going to have to say yellow. I will NOT eat the purple ones though, of any candy. It doesn’t taste like grape, it tastes like purple.

Coyote Ugly and The Devil Wears Prada are definitely high on my list of favourite chick flicks. But my absolute favourite?

Random posts are truly the best! Though I somehow never manage to fit a survey in myself (somehow there are always popping different topics up I want to write about) I enjoy to read them on other peoples blogs. Hershey kisses are such a great valentine’s gift not too cheesy (unlike German gingerbread hearts: http://www.theoktoberfest.com/HTML/lebkuchen/lebkuchen.jpg , which are so scary) and since they are individually wrapped you can enjoy them over the course of weeks. Have to order some at Amazon…

And, wohooo, Tuesday is my oral exam in marketing – afterwards I am completely done with studying for this month and will dig right into the reading process. It’s always so sad when you start a great book and have to lay it aside for some days.

I like it, and mostly use the app. My main use of it is to track books I’ve read (I forget which ones I’ve read), and to list books I want to read. It’s also nice to connect with friends on there, cause I’ll get some great book recommendations. I don’t use the site much, but when I’m deciding on new books to read I love having access to my lists.
