thinking out loud #241

June 29, 2017 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 17 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. I feel like I had something super important (or at least semi-interesting) to tell you guys, and now I can’t remember what it is… I normally keep a little note section on my phone and just jot things down as they come to me, but I distinctly. remember thinking to myself “this one is so good, there’s no way I’ll forget it”… and then I forgot it. Winning at life, is what I am.

2. Moving on to things I actually remember (read: what I jotted down) – I have a new favourite way to cook my oats. And I use the term “cook” lightly since I don’t actually cook them at all. What I do is put the dry oats in a bowl (usually a mixture of quick + old fashioned), pour hot water over them, and let them sit for a couple of minutes before adding all my mix-ins. This gives them the perfect soft-but-still-chewy texture, and takes all of 1 minute to do without any pans to clean up. But let’s be real… I’m basically just eating a bowl of fruit with a side of oats, because SUMMER.

Berry Oats

3. Speaking of fruit… Ok. So I buy big bags of frozen mixed berries because… I don’t know… variety? And it’s all fine and good except I really don’t like frozen strawberries. Not only are they hard as rocks, but [I think] they taste funny when they thaw. So I pick out all the blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and cherries… and then I’m left with a bag of frozen strawberries. What’s a girl to do with a tonne of fruit she doesn’t like? Make chia seed jam.

4. And because my body doesn’t seem to care about eating seasonally, I made applesauce too.

5. Have I ever told you guys about my obsession with micellar water? It’s a soft water that has tiny cleansing oil molecules in it, which are supposed to attract dirt and oil and draw impurities out of your skin. At least that’s the scientific approach to it. All I know is that when I put it on a cotton pad and swipe it over my face, the pad comes off dirty even after I used cleanser… so it’s literally picking up stuff that I didn’t get off when I was washing my face. And the best part is that it’s super gentle and hydrating, making it perfect for people with sensitive skin.

Bioderma Water

6. And yes, I’m still using my oregano oil. That stuff is amazing. As long as you can get past the smell.

7. And after all this time I still haven’t remembered the super amazing (or at least semi-interesting) thing that I was hoping to tell you guys. Watch it come to me right before I fall asleep tonight. Or randomly in the middle of the day tomorrow. Either way! Hope you guys are having an awesome Thursday 😀

We use the strawberries in smoothies because they never get a chance to “thaw”. And my kids love them….so send them our way! 🙂

Completely agree with you on the frozen strawberries- no thank you! But I do love frozen blueberries and raspberries. Not sure if you have an Aldi in Canada but I have been getting them much cheaper there!

I’ve got to try that way of cooking oats! I’m all for the chewy texture!. Any specified ratio you use of water and oats??
I can so relate to being forgetful when it comes to blog posts. I’ve been meaning to start jotting down random things that pop into my head in my phone notes too.

Have you tried overnight oats using ‘steel-cut’ oats and letting them soak in the fridge over night! Life (and time) saver 🙂

Hi Amanda! That’s an interesting way to make oats. I usually go for overnight oats in an empty nut butter jar — and the speed I get through nut butter — that happens a lot. Have a fab day, lady! 🙂

I’m with you on the fresh fruit. I’ve been popping raspberries and cherries like it’s going out of style. Much to my delight, the kid is liking them too. 🙂

Ooh what does oregano oil do? I’m actually doing a digestive healing protocol that uses oil of oregano in these little soft capsules. Also, that chia seed jam is SO pretty Amanda; I love how you were innovative about using those frozen strawberries. 🙂 It’s also so incredible that God created such a big world where we can grow fruits and veggies in different parts of the world and we can even have apples all year long. 🙂

I hear you with the frozen strawberries but I am a bit picky and actually don’t really love fruit in general. I know. So lame.

Micellar water sounds interesting! I’ve never heard of it! And I buy frozen fruit for smoothies but I’ve never thawed it out and ate it that way, not sure I would like it either.

This is similar to how I make my oats too! I also HATE frozen strawberries! The brand “Wymans” sells them with just blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries!

My sister has been raving about micellar water, I need to give it a try rather than buying tons of different facial products. And yes frozen strawberries taste so weird, I don’t like them either.

Oh, I’ve made your chia jam before and now you just reminded me of it all over again. Going on the grocery list. I haven’t been able to make myself like frozen berries at all. I know they’re convenient, but I just can’t handle the texture.
