. 14 healthier easter treats .

March 27, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 41 Comments

Just a little over a week until Easter!

Which means that in a mere 9 days I can go back to chewing gum (after giving it up for Lent) and helping myself to some of my favourite Easter candies. I’m not quite as crazy about candy as I was when I was younger — which is something I never thought I’d say — but all bets are off when it comes to jellybeans and Mini Eggs Hershey’s Eggies (Mini Eggs have a peanut warning these days 😡 ). Those little suckers are my kryptonite.

And so are all the baked treats! Dessert has always been my favourite food-related part of any holiday, which is why I’m more than happy to be the one contributing it these days. I’ve been scouring the interwebs for recipe inspiration, and I figured I’d share some of my favourites with you!

14 Healthier Easter Treats

Each of these 14 treats are made healthier by being lightened up and/or made with wholesome ingredients. They’d make great desserts for Easter, or snacks for springtime if you don’t celebrate. And if you’re wondering why there are 14 of them… it’s because 14 seemed like a good number for each one to get enough attention without getting too overwhelming. That and it’s how many fit neatly into the above collage 😉 Hope you find something you’ll love!

Oh! And if you’re looking for something a little more chocolatey, you can find a healthier chocolate dessert roundup here.

I’m loving absolutely all of these treats! Easter is seriously my candy obsession time, all the best things come out at Easter! I’m on making those pb eggs, like, yesterday! 🙂

My all time favorite Easter candy was a Reese’s egg. Nothing compared. I had to recreate it once doing dairy free, and it was good, but not the same. Never the same…haha. These all look toooo tasty.

I love carrot cake but don’t eat it a lot. What other time would be good to eat carrot cake than at Easter?

Thanks for including my cookie cake! I always LOVED the Starburst-flavored jelly beans that came in my Easter basket as a kid. They were the first thing I’d eat! 😉 Pinned!

Great round up! I love chocolate Easter eggs and Cadbury mini eggs, but my favourite Easter treat is hands down carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. So dang good!

Do you still eat Mini Eggs even with the peanut warning? I’ve switched over to Hershey’s Eggies, which are still good but definitely not the same!

I risk it – I figure they don’t make a version of the mini eggs with nuts, so I doubt it would use the same equipment as something with nuts, you know? I know there’s still a slight risk, but I figure I’m still alive, so it’s all good haha.

Nice round up! My favorite Easter candy of the commercial variety is a tie between Hawaiian Punch jelly beans (100% of your vitamin C per serving, Hahaha) and Cadbury Cream Eggs. But my husband’s family hosts a Greek Easter party with homemade Baklava, so that is my true favorite!

My favorite Easter candy would have to be those malted eggs that everyone seems to hate but me. They are gross, I’ll admit it. The waxy outside and the gritty malted inside…I remember eating everyone else’s because they left them in their Easter baskets =P
I didn’t give up anything for lent…maybe next year 😉

I actually don’t mind those malted eggs! I totally forgot about them until you mentioned them, so I think I might pick up a baggie this year!

I am such a bad Catholic because I haven’t given up anything in years… Or attended church for that matter. HOWEVER, I gave up fast food in 7th grade and chips in 8th grade. I STILL do not eat both which I say is a success! So… I guess my Lent has been going on for over 10 years. LOL

So many carrot cakes! I was craving a carrot cake cupcake the other day, but when I finally found one it had nuts in it (not a fan) and the icing was not cream cheese! Then I found a mini one at Whole Foods and the icing was amazing but still had nuts. I guess I just have to make my own…

I need those Reese eggs in my life, stat. Also, I still want to try your Morning Glory Muffins, for names purposes alone. Can you call your next muffins Afternoon Delight? It would give me a secret thrill.

    Great round up.

Fantastic line up! I wish I could eat ’em ALL – AT ONCE!!!
This Lent, I almost gave up chocolate…but fell and bumped my head and regained enough sense to realize that that might be something to give up when my daughter goes off to college and I am all by myself because me without chocolate = Oscar the Grouch! I did give up fish and chicken and turkey (meats we eat) and, Amanda, I didn’t realize I so enjoyed being a carnivore!

They all look so good! I love the carrot theme in a bunch of them. It reminds me that I need to start making more things with carrots since they’re soo good for you! I feel like I just add them to soups and salads and never make any baked goods with them.

Ughhh I can’t decide which one I want to make first. I’m not a huge fan of candy but my fav Easter anything if hot cross buns. So good 😀
Also, I’m pretty sure one of these will be accompanying me to my potluck this weekend…so thanks for that haha

This is a great list Amanda, I like your energy bites. Need all the energy I can get. I like all those gross bagged Easter candy they sell at the store, but we try not to even buy it because 1) it’s gross and 2) it seems like we put on 10 pounds each year. What to do? And we were hit with snow yesterday, pounded so no run for us =) Happy Friday Amanda!!!
