. thinking out loud #112 .

January 8, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 85 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Thank you guys so much for all of the amazing comments and e-mails you sent me in response to my Thoughts on Turning 30 post. It’s never easy to bare your soul and make yourself vulnerable, which probably explains why I wrote, published, and refused to acknowledge that post for the next 1.5 days πŸ˜† But after [finally] manning up and reading your comments — gah! Thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you. There’s a huge comfort in knowing that so many other people can relate to what you’re going through, and while I wouldn’t exactly say that I was feeling hopeless before, I definitely feel more at peace now. You guys are the rockers of socks. Much love to you. Much love.

2. Speaking of love… ermagherd it’s hereeeeee!!!

Planner in Box

The FedEx guy became my favourite person in the world (after you guys) yesterday morning when he handed me the box containing my Erin Condren Life Planner. Patience is not my strongest suit, and waiting for that thing was seriously the longest two weeks of my life (read: not really). I’m definitely going to review it after I’ve had a chance to use it for a while, but for now I can say that I am in love.

Erin Condren Life Planner

3. Oh, and in case you need more evidence that patience is not the best of my virtues, you need only look at my bottom lip, where you’ll see me rocking a lovely blister that I got from burning myself on roasted potatoes. This is my life. I’ll save you the pleasure of seeing my burned lip in all its scabby glory, and instead show you the potatoes responsible for my embarrassment…

Roasted Potatoes

4. At least it’s not the kind of embarrassment that these poor dogs are probably feeling πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7znI_Kpzbs&w=576&h=315″]

5. Speaking of dogs… if you love adorable ones, then I highly suggest you follow speedyboyboy on Instagram. I mean… that face (read: that tongue). I can’t even handle the cuteness.

SpeedyBoyBoy

6. Nor can I handle the cuteness of these stickers that I picked up from Michael’s the other day.

Ridiculously-Cute-Stickers

I mean… omg.squeeeee.whaaaat?!? I promised myself that I wouldn’t fall into the trap of becoming a planner junkie, but… I’ve fallen into the trap and became a planner junkie, complete with cute stickers, washi tapes, coloured pens, and all. In all fairness, though, this is something that I’ve always loved (I was crazy crafty when I was younger), and it’s nice to see that side of me starting to stir again. Maybe I’ll even tackle some DIY projects.

7. I should probably spend some time taking down my Christmas decorations first, though. I’m usually fine with leaving them up a few weeks into January, but they’re really starting to get to me for some reason this year, and I just want them gone. I’ve been slowly picking away at them and taking down a few pieces each day, but this weekend they’ll be gone for good.

Naked Tree

8. Newwwwwp. Scratch that. I won’t be home this weekend because… I’m going to the mountains to do some snowboarding! Squee!! I was hoping to get out last weekend for my birthday, buuuuuut this happened…

Minus 30 for 30

So, yeah. My birthday is notorious for always being one of the coldest days of the year (there was a running joke that it was -30 for my 30th), and I don’t know about you guys, but I wasn’t feeling up for losing my nose, fingers, and toes to frostbite. Thankfully it’s starting to warm up nicely, so if you need me, I’ll be flying down the slopes.

9. Either that or on the treadmill! I haven’t had a chance to talk about some of the goals I made for myself this year [yet], but one of them is to start running more consistently and eventually get to the point where I can run 5k with no problem. Running has been one of those things that I’ve had an on-again, off-again relationship with for longer than I care to admit, and it’s starting to bother me that it’s become of those things I haven’t been able to conquer… so I’m doing something about it! And yes… I realize that a goal of 5k by the end of the year isn’t exactly a lofty one, but that’s the entire point. I’m notorious for getting all gung-ho about something and going way too hard, way too fast, so I’m taking it slow this time around in hopes that making it less painful will make it last. Right now I’m following the Couch to 5k running program, and so far so good!

10. Is that all? I think that’s all. Okay. Bye! πŸ˜€

Great goal with the running!! I’ve done the Couch to 5k in the past & it’s such a great, easy to follow program. Unfortunately, I also have a love/hate relationship with running… more on the hate side, actually. I really WANT to love it, but for some reason I think my body is just not built for it… I always feel so awkward & miserable running. Sprints, now that’s a different story… I can do those, but long runs… forget it. Best of luck to you girl, you got this!!! πŸ™‚

After searching hi ad low for the perfect planner I read your post a few weeks ago and order myself an Erin Condren Life planner. Now I am waiting impatiently for mine to get here as well! Ugh! Seeing your’s let me live vicariously through you for a moment!

Confession: I totally spent hours and hours watching YouTube videos of people organizing their planners while I waited for mine to get here. Helped fill the void, and gave me some great tips πŸ˜€

I am the same.way. Wrapping my head around an idea tends to have me going all dedicated and devoted…well and good, but there’s something called “burnout” that kinda kills me. All the best on getting into a fabulous running groove πŸ™‚ .

That planner is so cute! I am more of a white board person because I like to see everything before I make a decision to do something else. I should design custom white boards for the people who need a BIG visual reminder of their daily activities πŸ™‚ My Christmas dΓ©cor is still up too. It’s only Jan 8th so I figure we can give ourselves a break. It is the most wonderful time of the year!

I have a big white board at home for when I’m brainstorming projects and I looooove them. If I could carry one around with me, I totally would!

Haha a 5K would be a lofty goal for me! I am a super-slow runner and get really bad foot/knee pain from it easily. I always thought I was just bad at it because I wasn’t trying hard enough, but turns out I have a funny little foot deformity I didn’t know about until I was 25 that makes running extra hard and the worst possible form of exercise for my body. Sometimes I feel left out by all the blogs about running & healthy living, but then I remember that there are lot of types of physical activity I do enjoy that make my body and mind feel good, and that’s all that matters : )

    Wow, long comment. Whoops!

Ouch, sorry about your lip! I would probably do the same thing though..I get too excited about a really nice hot cup of tea or hot cocoa and tend to burn my tongue. Ha! And those cute stickers are totally worth it.

Getting burnt sucks, but seriously….those taters look worth it. They’re in wedge form, so give ’em a break! It’s like if Beyonce wrote a song about America being stupid; I don’t think I could even get mad!

OH.MY.GOD. I had to do a total double take! Does that say negative 30 degrees? I can’t even imagine. it was 50 degrees F here yesterday, and I had my baby under two blankets to go for a walk. I officially feel like a whimp! I hope you have a fantastic Birthday!!

I’ve had my tree down since January 2nd and even that felt too long. I loved putting it up, and I love taking it down just as much. Be gone clutter.

You’re going to the mountains! Good for you, and also embrace that DYI side, and then send me something crafty…I’m thinking arm warmers. πŸ˜‰

Hooray Couch to 5K! I swear by that program. It’s what I send everyone and anyone to if they have any desire to become a runner. I used Couch to 5K to train for my first two 5Ks, and here I am, three and a half years later, with almost 30 races under my belt from 5Ks to marathons. I so firmly believe in Couch to 5K’s ability to turn anyone into a runner. I hope you like it! It’s such a great intro to long distance running!

I definitely just used happy more times than I’m comfortable with. Happy snowboarding!

Yes to the starting out slow with running. Injuries are not fun in the least and then you’ll get sidelined for longer! And I just took our Christmas tree down 2 days ago. It was bothering me too and I was starting to feel lazy for still having it up πŸ˜‰

I totally feel your pain of burning yourself from food. One time I burnt the entire roof of my mouth of soup, and the skin from the roof of my mouth started peeling off! Ugh, it was so gross.

Can’t wait to hear what you think about your new Erin Condren planner! I got a gift card for Christmas and decided to go with an address book to help me keep track of all our friends’ and family’s contact info since I already have another planner I’m using for 2015. I want your planner. So jealous! I thought about ordering one last week but I decided it was too far into the new year already (ridiculous I know). I now regret that decision.

I need our tree gone this year too. With all the baby toys scattered throughout the living room I couldn’t take any extra clutter.
