. WIAW… round four .

June 1, 2011 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 64 Comments

Hi beautiful people! ๐Ÿ˜€ Can you believe it’s already June? Eeeee. Love it! And what better way to bring in a beautiful (and hopefully sunnier) new month than with a delicious round ofย WIAW.

I started off the first day of June the same way I start off any other day… with tea and breakfast prep.

Eggy banana steel cut oats with blueberries, coconut butter, and vanilla pudding.

Did you know that the first of June also happens to be International Children’s Day? I don’t think it’s that commonly celebrated over here in North America, but because my parents were born and raised in Europe, and grew up celebrating it themselves, they always get me a little something special…

This year it was a little panda charm for my Pandora bracelet *squeak*.

Amanda Panda. Get it? ๐Ÿ˜‰ย No, I will never grow up… nor will I ever get tired of these…

Cookie Dough & Killer Strawberries

What? You don’t use empty jam container lids as plates? Pssh. Get with the times! Or… don’t; I was just too lazy to go rummaging through the cupboards, so I grabbed the first thing I saw. Hey, whatever works. And speaking of which… what kind of magic are they working to pump out strawberries that grow as big as my face? I should probably be at least a tiny bit concerned, but they’re just too darned tasty.

And you know what else is tasty? Breakfast… which is why I decided to have it again when lunch time rolled around. To get my veggies in, I figured I’d throw a salad beast in there too, just for good measure.

Salad beast; vanilla tofu protein smoothie; Greek yogurt with puffs, Sunshine, and trail mix.

Confession: I haven’t eaten a typical lunch-type lunch in… ohhhhh… 5 days or so? I just haven’t been craving the savory stuff like I normally do, so why try and force it? To wind up cranky and unsatisfied?

Naaaaahhh.ย

In the past, I adhered to the wonky belief that only breakfast and snacks were “allowed” to be sweet, so I’d force myself to eat savory lunches and dinners even if I wasn’t feeling them. No bueno. Unhappy tummy = unhappy Amanda…ย much more satisfying to go with what your gut is telling you (oh and by the way, I really don’t care much for the word gut), and although lunch managed to silence my talkative gut for a little while, it wasn’t long before it started speaking up again…

… and again…

Quite the chatterbox, my gut is.

Crazy afternoon hunger. It’s hard to handle sometimes – especially when it hits you in the middle of a run. What. the. hell? How is it possible to get hungry so quickly when I literallyย justย ate before I walked out the door? Stomach. Seriously. Knock it off. I wouldย like to enjoy activities other than eating. Thanks.

That’t not to say that I don’t enjoy eating, because I very much do, especially when breakfast is involved…

Pumpkin bake with banana, cream cheese, and roasted almond butter.

Yes, that makes today a triple breakfast day. Don’t say it. Just… don’t say it. Breakfast overload, I know. Watch, tomorrow I’m gonna end up having something very un-breakfast-like for breakfast – like a tofu stir fry or something. Naaaaaahh. Never gonna happen.

And now if you’ll excuse me, loves, I’m off to test the strength of my nerves watch game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, which my Canucks will hopefullyย be winning (sorry Jess, I still love you!).

. – . – . – .

Have you been craving more sweet or savory foods lately?

Has your appetite been out of control like mine?

First, that coffee mug in the first pic is AMAZING. I want it.
My hubby bought me a pandora bracelet last Christmas ๐Ÿ™‚ He filled it with a bunch of charms, but I am really looking forward to adding and mixing it up!! Pandas are my FAVORITE zoo animal, so I will have to get one added to my bracelet. Twinsies? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have got to learn to trust and listen to my body like you do! I feel like I am constantly hungry or at least fearing being hungry and therefore always thinking about food. What a great, vicious cycle ๐Ÿ™
On a more positive note, I love your Pandora bracelet! I received one when I was 16 and have been filling it up with new charms ever since. It is probably one of my most favorite and special items that I own ๐Ÿ™‚

When I wasn’t eating enough, I was CONSTANTLY thinking about food, too. I couldn’t do anything else because I wasn’t able to focus on anything besides “when will it be time to eat”. I still get that way sometimes, but it’s a lot better now ๐Ÿ˜€

I have been alot more hungry as well, and as my recent posts state “Stuck in the almond butter jar”.

Okay, I’m sorry, I can’t take this anymore. PLEASE CAN I COME TO YOUR HOUSE?!
Seriously, just everything you eat, I just want in my tummy right now. I’ll pay for you to be my personal chef?!
I have such a sweet tooth that if I let it take control, I would live on breakfasty sweet foods. But I actually force myself to have a sweet breakfast and two savoury meals and then all my snacks can be sweet because otherwise I think I would get a sweet overload and I would never have any ‘normal’ meals!
The panda charm is absolutely adorable. And what a lovely day to celebrate – I’ve never heard of it despite living in Europe. I had always said to my parents growing up that there should be a ‘kid’s day’ because there is a Father’s Day and Mother’s Day and I wanted an extra excuse for presents haha! They’d always respond by saying ‘Every day is kid’s day – you get enough treats!’ haha! Now I’m going to tell them there is such a thing muhaha!
What is in that bowl of chocolatey goodness?! It looks amazing!!
My appetite has been totally out of control now that I’m focusing more on my health by increasing my calories and reducing my exercise, it’s crazy! I’m not bothered by it though, I’m trying to gain weight and it’s another excuse for me to eat more sweet things YAY ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha! You can come over for breakfast (or lunch/dinner) any time ๐Ÿ˜€ I used to think that I’d eat nothing but sweet things if I “let myself go”, but it never really happened! If I ate what I wanted, and it was too many sweet things, then I’d def. experience the sweet overload and start craving more savory stuff.

And the chocolatey bowl of goodness is some Greek yogurt mixed with coconut milk, a chocolate muffin, strawberries, and chocolate pudding.

I love breakfast so much so why don’t I just give in and eat it more than once in a day? Good question, self. Good question. I want to swim in that coconut butter. Mine never gets that melty ๐Ÿ™ I was suddenly hungry during my run today too!! How bothersome, but did you know it was Nat’l Running Day? I ran a race on Memorial Day and seriously my hunger would not end. Obviously I listened to my bod and continued to feed it. Duh.

i think there was a good solid week (okay…probably longer…) where I’d have my cereal bowls for breakfast and then sweet waffles for lunch because I hated having to decide between the two! Normally the heat kills my appetite, but it’s been raging lately too. I always crave sweets, but I tend to crave them even more it seems when I start out my day with something sweet…which is all the time. I rarely wake up wanting scrambled eggs or an omelet. Bring on the chocolate oats with pb and peanut butter puffin cereal loaded with fruit!

Your sweets look soooo delicious! I’m into sweets (ie berries and dairy) for lunch most days. It’s not that I don’t like savory, but it just easier for me to pack the breakfast-type lunches for work. I sometimes feel like I could live off cottage cheese, oatmeal, and fruit…

Lately, I’ve been hungry more than usual because of my high volume training the past 2 weeks. I feel like all I do is train and eat.

All of your breakfasty items make me so happy! It’s weird because I’m the opposite- normally I crave sweet but lately I’ve been wanting salty. Go figure!! I am making your pumpkin bake soon btw ๐Ÿ™‚
And as you know my appetite was insaaane for awhile now but it’s calmed down slightly. I find I can go longer between meals which is nice! For me the key is to eat a little more than I think I need… not to feel stuffed, just to feel FULLY satisfied. It’s working out great so far!

I know I’m probably repeating the other comments above – but my appetite has been going out of control recently. To be honest, it scares me because it reminds me of my past “sad” days (if you get what I mean.) I don’t restrict myself or anything…but I don’t know what to do when I get starving-hungry at 12:00am midnight. I actually ended up having a snack literally in the middle of the night few days ago. Have you experienced anything like this? (p.s. my calorie intake is typically >2500)

I think I have the ramekin you used for breakfast!! I won it from Bites and Bliss. I’ve still got that “breakfast and snack sweet” rule. One big wonderful challenge for me would be to have oats or cereal for dinner. I need to break out of this rut because sometimes there isn’t anything I’d rather have. That said, I enjoy a salad beast any day ๐Ÿ™‚
