. WIAW … ‘fessing up .

October 30, 2013 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 105 Comments

There are a few things I need to get off my chest. Ahem…

Confession: As much as I love WIAW, I hate what it does to both my Bloglovin’ feed and appetite. Can we say hungry blog reading all.day.long? Yes, yes we can.

WIAWFall

Confession: I had no idea yesterday was National Oatmeal Day — there are just way too many food “holidays” for me to keep track of. Luckily, oatmeal happens to be one of those foods that I celebrate pretty much on a daily basis, so yesterday’s breakfast of oats with yogurt, almond butter, honey, and cinnamon got me off the hook. Let’s just pretend I did it on purpose.

Honey Almond Oats

Confession: I haven’t been to Starbucks in well over a week. This may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but as someone who used to go every.single.day (sometimes even twice), going 7+ days without is kind of huge. I blame my [beloved] Keurig and the fact that I’ve fallen in love with homemade lattes… especially when they’re topped with cinnamon, right Cori?

Homemade Latte

Confession: I cannot be trusted around frozen bananas. I grabbed a bag to snack on while I was studying, with the intention of “just having a couple of slices,” and before I knew it, 3/4 of the bag was gone 😯 I’m pretty sure there were at least 2.5 big bananas in there, so if you stop hearing from me, it’s probably because I’ve turned into a monkey and I’m busy flinging poop around in a fit of joy.

Frozen Bananas

Confession: I’m not a huge fan of pasta. In fact, prior to yesterday’s lunch, I can’t even remember the last time I had some. I know it’s a dish that makes a lot of people weak in the knees, but it’s just never done much for me. Maybe I’ve never had good pasta? Or maybe I just can’t get over my childhood belief that spaghetti noodles with butter and parmesan cheese is the best “pasta” there is. This bowl, however, had fettuccine (??) noodles, green beans, marinara sauce, and mozzarella. Edible, but again… meh.

Parmesan Pasta

Confession: Candy will probably always be my absolute favourite source of “quick energy.” I know, I know — blood sugar spikes and crashes and all that jazz — but cut me some slack here. I don’t do it all that often, so you better believe that when I do do it, I do enjoy it. This snickerdoodle truffle powered me through a good 2-hour home cleaning session… and then I took a 15-minute nap 😉

Colourful Snickerdoodle

Truffle
Bitten Truffle

Confession: Yes, those are my pink PJ pants. No, I am not ashamed.

Confession: I eat standing around my kitchen counter far more often than I care to admit. I also thought that my addiction to kabocha would start to taper off by now, but… it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

Roasted Kabocha Snacking

Confession: All I wanted for dinner last night was breakfast. This bowl of plain Greek yogurt topped with Kashi Cinnamon Harvest, cinnamon Puffins, banana slices, homemade applesauce, and roasted almond butter managed to hit the spot juuuuuust right.

Cereal for Dinner

Confession: I can’t even remember the last time I had breakfast for dinner. Who am I?!

Confession: Remember that bowl of Greek yogurt topped with honey roasted chickpeas that I showed you guys a while back? It wasn’t just an isolated incident.

Yogurt and Chickpeas

 . – . – . – .

Are you a fan of pasta? What kind is your favourite?
How many cups of coffee do you drink per day?
What colour are your PJ pants?

I feel ya on the pasta thing! While I’ve never tried spaghetti with butter and parm, I used to LOVE ravioli and manicotti as a kid, even up to my college years…it was all I’d ever order when I went to Italian restaurants. Now, I don’t even want to bother going to Italian restaurants because 90% of the dishes involve pasta! I’m not real big on rice either. When the man-friend, Melissa and I went out for Thai last weekend, I didn’t even touch the rice that came with my duck curry. For me, bread is my carb of choice…followed very closely by breakfast grains and cereal, of course! 😉 Which reminds me, I’m pretty sure I missed National Oatmeal Day…damn! There ARE too many food holidays to keep them straight…and so many confusing sources as to which days are which!

I prefer to order pasta (or have my grandmother make it fresh for me!) more than I do cook it myself oddly enough. My favorites are gnocchi and cavatelli!

I used to drink a lot more coffee in the past however I noticed ever since I did a juice cleanse during the summer, my stomach can not handle any more than 4-6 cups a day. (I used to drink twice that!)

My PJ pants are blue and green 🙂

You think pasta is meh….aw, that makes me sad. Have you ever had fresh pasta by someone who knows what they’re doing? It can be incredible. I’m going to try my hand at homemade pasta this winter. Maybe I’ll be able to change your mind.
P.S. I like the pink pajamas and the cleaning frenzy followed by a nap. Sounds like my kind of time.

I’ve never tried fresh pasta, no… which is part of the reason why I think I don’t care for it all that much. But I’ll most gladly take you up on your dinner offer.

I used to be a coffee shop regular until I realized I could make the same drink (usually my beloved almond milk chai) for much cheaper. The problem is I tend to get more work done in coffee shops, so my productivity levels may have decreased a little…

Oh and my kabocha addiction hasn’t wavered one bit either. Plus it’s fall so it’s more justified, right?

I wish we had National Food Days like you guys do…and someone emailed me to tell me you had National Cat Day too..Australia seriously needs to pull its socks up and get on board with these celebrations!!

I am drooling at your oat bowl it looks delicious. I don’t often have breakfast for dinner but will do it for lunch.

I drink no cups of coffee a day. I used to be super addicted and drank 3-4 cups a day and then quit cold turkey. Now I am all about Chai Lattes <<< These have cinnamon. And my cups of earl grey tea.

All of this looks so good! I’m really not a pasta person either. I NEVER make it myself and rarely order it either. It always looks so good when people post it haha, but it doesn’t have much taste appeal to me!

I’ve got to admit, my feelings towards boxed pasta with sauce are kind of meh. But if it’s homemade pasta with homemade sauce, it makes such a world of a difference! My favourite kind of pasta is probably homemade ravioli. Cheese stuffed pasta is my weakness!

Frozen bananas are seriously the bomb (dot com). I have a TON of them in my freezer right now because I’ve started buying entire bunches of bananas for the sole purpose of letting them ripen to freeze them. Best idea ever.

So you just gave me a craving for homemade ravioli at 6 AM 😛 I’ll have to look up some recipes, and if they’re not too labour intensive, then maybe I can convince myself to make some.

Argh! I always miss those food holidays, too. Good thing I also consume oats on a daily basis.
See, the pasta thing is where I differ from you. I’d eat it every day of my life if I could. I love it all: stuffed pasta, white sauce, tomato sauce, pesto, ANY of it. It’s a big comfort food for me, but I do agree that buttered noodles with parmesan is the best, especially when I’m not feeling well.

LOL! The sugar rush aided a nap in the end- love it.

I’m not a huge fan of pasta, but I do like asian style noodles….cold. That is now the only way I’d eat them. It would have been borderline humorous if you had NOT eaten oats on this day 😛

Normally, I limit coffee to one cup in the morning (Strong) but during exam time, its 1 in the morning and something caffeinated in the arvo- usually a pepsi max or iced tea!

Your breakfast for dinner…I wonder how many variations of cinnamon was in that…mind. blown.

Pasta is probably one of my favorite foods ever. I used to eat it with just butter and parm too, but then I went vegan and now I try to jazz it up a bit. I am LOVING nut sauces to go on top, or just a basic tomato, or ever just a myriad of spices. I love your pink pants!! I was at Starbucks today..for work. 😉

Pasta and I have a weird relationship. I never CRAVE it, I typically opt out on having it because there is something else I would rather have. However, when I do eat it I thoroughly enjoy it. But then afterward I’m back to my typical old, non-pasta-craving self.

This is too funny. I don’t like pasta either and my sister doesn’t understand. It’s just one of those foods I don’t get enough flavor from and can do without. I think I consume most of my meal while making food, realizing it’s practically gone before I sit down at the table.

Got to try the yoghurt topped with chickpeas! I have been drinking way more coffee recently, buuttt have switched to decaf – I tend to have one proper coffee in the morning and then several decaf during the day. I’ve found a gorgeous organic instant decaf so I’m now hooked, and can justify having several more coffees a day!

Considering that I just pulled kabocha out of the oven, pretty safe to say that my addiction is still kicking around too 😉 I’ll happily make pasta at home a few times a month, but I rarely order it out at restaurants or anything – definitely not when it’s something I could easily make at home myself! At home, I usually make it with a turkey or chicken bolegnese, or I make lasagna. Or Annie’s mac and cheese 😉

I only have one pair of PJ pants – they’re blue with penguins on them. I never like wearing them to bed though – I hate overheating at night.

I LOVED pasta as a kid but haven’t had it in a long time. When I was little, I was all about the buttered penne with lots of pepper and parmesan. That’s basically the only way I liked it, but damn, I LOVED IT. I was very picky and so my parents often just made me pasta while the rest of the family ate fish or another protein for dinner. They always joked I’d turn into pasta lol
I drink coffee everyday. At home, I just use my French press to make some dark roast, which I drink black. At coffeeshops, I get an Americano, a cappuccino or an iced coffee (which I add a dash of half n half to)
