. today was a beautiful day .

September 8, 2011 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 84 Comments

Today was a beautiful day…

The kind of day where having a hot breakfast makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, but you do so anyways because… well… that’s just how you like it…

. – . – . – .

The kind of day where working out in a gym would be a crime, so you take your run outside…

… only to almost die on the stairs that were sadistically placed along your route…

. – . – . – .

The kind of day where afternoon eats and treats have to be cool and sweet…

Tofu protein pudding, made with a frozen banana and chia seeds.

Greek yogurt – Frozen chocolate muffin – Banana – Almond butter.

Cool, crisp salad beast.

Vanilla ice cream with a crumbled cone and chocolate sprinkles.

Frozen banana with almond butter and chocolate muffin crumbs.

. – . – . – .

The kind of day where the thought of a savory dinner sends your appetite running for the hills, and the only thing that sounds appealing is a grown-up twist on a childhood favorite…

Greek yogurt (buried) – Blueberries – Cereal – Trail mix.

. – . – . – .

The kind of day where you don’t think about eating too much sugar or not enough protein.

The kind of day where your mind is completely free.

The kind of day that wouldn’t have been possible at this time last year.

Yes, today was a beautiful day 😀

. – . – . – .

Do you struggle with feeling like you have to balance your eats on a daily basis? It’s an issue that’s plagued me for a long time. Make sure to get so much of this, not too much of that… but I’m finally starting to look at the bigger picture instead of analyzing things over a 24-hour time frame.

Are you a fan of cereal for dinner? It’s something that I used to do on a regular basis, and I’m thinking that it’s going to start making an appearance much more often.

I love cereal for dinner. And seriously, your body knows best. So if it’s craving too much of this and too little of that, well, who are you to argue?

I’m always afraid of too many nuts, too much fruit, not enough veggies.
    I’m slowly getting better though.

Your day sounds wonderful, I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
I never have cereal for dinner cause I know it wont fill me up! If I have oats for dinner its usually pumpkin oats because they are so filling,

So glad to hear you had such a beautiful day! The sun finally came out here after 3 days of rain! I love your bright and positive attitude! I love breakfast for dinner – especially cereal – actually I love cereal anytime of day!
    Keep smiling! 🙂

We make “breakfast night” most Wednesdays, recently we’ve fallen off the bandwagon though :C
It’s never cereal though, much to my chagrin.

I used to worry about all the macronutrients, like “OMG I DIDN’T GET ENOUGH PROTEIN” but I wouldn’t mind I had like only 5% of my daily fat intake for the day…and 150% of carbs and or protein.

So now I just eat what I want when I want 🙂

Would you mind sending some of that gorgeous weather down this way to rain city? Please and thank you! <3

I’m so glad you had a beautiful day today! Today was a day where my bag was to heavy, and my professor didn’t show up, and I spent 4 hours commuting…and I’m ready to hit the hay. The good news is tomorrow is another day, and I will make it a beautiful day!

I tend to try and eat balanced, but somedays I just screw it and go for what I’m craving 🙂 I’ve never had cereal for dinner, but your combo looks delicious!!

I used to be a fan of cereal for dinner, but now that I eat it for breakfast practically everyday, I save it for morning!

I also used to be really strict about balancing out my meals, but not so much anymore. I generally feel better when I get a healthy balance, but I don’t really do it consciously. Certain days I get more of a balance than I do on other days. It all evens out in time! Deliciousness counts more than balance, as far as I’m concerned. I just want to enjoy what I’m eating!

    I love beautiful days 🙂

Sometimes I feel like I have to have my eats all balanced, like x% protein, y% carbs, and z% fat, but honestly, thats just too much math. I have a super tough calculus course this semester to deal with numbers; eating is just art.

Your day sounds amazing. I’m 16 and just recently recovering from my own episode of disordered eating (I hate calling it what it really is) and am trying to be positive and non-obsessive about the things I eat. I used to eat only fruit and I sort of developed an addiction to it and everyday I would eat fruit, fruit, fruit. After losing my period I realize that I really am unhealthy and need to gain weight (although I totally rather not). Anyway I;m proud of myself because I’ve finally started eating yogurt, Luna bars, and….peanut butter! Oh man I love peanut butter. I know what it feels like to be afraid to go out because you might not be able to find something healthy to eat or out of fear of being offered junk food. I’m not too comfortable with my new self but I guess I’ll have to get used to it.

Cereal for dinner is sometimes the only thing that sounds good :D. But, I usually eat cereal for my evening snack so it doesn’t often show it’s face for dinner as well. And I definitely can struggle with feeling like I’ve had balanced eats- especially when I don’t get “enough” veggies in throughout the day. I try not to worry too much though and just get back on track the next day.

I’m happy to hear that someone had a beautiful day… mine was very dreary, mostly because of the inches of rain we’ve had over the past few days.

And I still really struggle with balancing my food. I tend to cut myself short on fats and proteins while mandating that I eat lots and lots of fruit and vegetables. And you can forget about eating cereal–or any grain–as the main component of any meal.

I have been craving breakfast for all my meals. Maybe it’s in the air? I am totally ok with cereal for dinner and oops, have been doing it lately too.

I am jealous of your weather. Still 100 degrees here. It NEEDS to cool down or I am going to go crazy. ♥

I would kill for this kind of balance, and I think I’m getting closer to it every day! I find that I’m really good at seeing the bigger picture, but I hardly ever look at it. It’s very weird. More and more I’m letting go, and loving it.
Weather-wise, today was a beautiful day. The forecast told me to expect rain all day, but there wasn’t a single drop 🙂

Awh, this was lovely <3 It almost made the dreary, cold day we experience in my neck of the woods seem a little better 😉 (Seriously – WHEN did the rest of summer decide to go AWOL on me??!)

I definitely still feel the need to try to get a proper balance of foods in my daily diet – I don't think I'm as obsessive about it as I was during my darker days, though. I don't think I've ever had cereal for dinner (oats is a different story all together!), but it sounds like a BRILLIANT idea! 😉

Yes there are many days where I seem to fret over not getting enough veggies, enough protein, too many sweets and treats, etc. But I’m getting to a point where I do the best I can and if I don’t eat any veggies it is ok. I’ll get in plenty at some point!

I had cereal for dinner TONIGHT, I had a slight niggling guilt cos its not proper dinnery food, sweet, not all that high in protein ,blah blah blah…but its friggin delicious and ill do it again 🙂

I do try and balance my eats to make sure I’m getting a good amount of nutrients- but I don’t obsess over it.
I tried your almond butter frosting recipe for 1st time today- holy freakin yum is all have to say to that.

Your running route is so beautiful! And I love this post 🙂 Send some of that sunshine my way though, please. Today I could have sworn it was fall. So damp and chilly.
And I’m definitely a fan of cereal for breakfast. Whenever my mom sees me doing it I think she gets a little worried about me or something, though, lol. My rationale is that I’ll eat what I’m craving and if it turns out to not be enough, well, I’ll just eat again. I don’t see a problem in that!

As for feeling the need to balance? Well…yes and no. I mean, I’m an active person…I need to make sure I’m eating well enough to support long days and not make me feel run-down. I’m not about to worry if I have one day of “unbalanced” eating, and I never count grams anyways, but I do try and make sure I’m staying in-tune to how I feel, if that makes sense?

I love all breakfast foods, so occasionally they make the meal plan for dinner! My fiance eats a bowl of cereal almost everynight before bed!
I tend to balance my eats during the week because I plan my meals the night before and pack them all for work. I’m more lax about it on the weekends.

Cereal is sooooo not a dinner.

    Cereal is a snack only.

There are times when I feel like I need more balance in my daily eats, but like you said, I try to look at the bigger picture. I don’t feel like I eat unhealthily. I know that I get nutrients that my body needs. I eat what I LIKE. That is becoming more and more apparent to me lately. Not eating this or that because I feel like I SHOULD, but eating what I WANT and what my mind and body are telling me that I want. & it’s not very often that I eat cereal for dinner. But there are those days when I just don’t know what I want, and cereal is always a great backup 🙂

YES. Thank you for representing those of us in the cereal for dinner party 😉 I celebrated last night with some crispy brown rice cereal and it was perfectamundo!

I’m definitely one who tries to eat a balance diet, but I agree– it’s better to think of things over a long-term time scale rather than just over the span of 24 hours. This way it isn’t as disheartening when you let yourself indulge in that chocolate cake or DQ blizzard (in my case 😉 )
