. this… or maybe that? .

July 4, 2011 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 74 Comments

Happy Independence Day to all my lovely American readers!

And happy 4th of July to everyone else – it may not be a holiday, but it’s still a happy day πŸ˜€ And if you haven’t been having the best day, head on over to the comments that people left on my last post and maybe you’ll get some ideas for how to make yourself smile. I know that simply reading about what makes other people happy brought a smile to my face, so hopefully it’ll be able to brighten yours as well.

Something that doesn’tΒ brighten my day, though?

Decision making. Ugh.

(This snack, on the other hand, always brightens my day… banana and Greek yogurt)

Black/white? Left/right? Smooth/chunky? Eep! I just don’t know! I mean, I’ll pick something eventually, but it usually takes me a good amount of time, and if there are too many options (take, clothes/furniture shopping for example)? Sometimes I get so overwhelmed that I just give up and go home empty handed.

Yeah. Working on that one…

I’ve been facing some pretty big life decisions lately (more on this in a future post, when I have more things figured out), and my indecisivenessΒ definitelyΒ plays a huge role there; but it seems to play an even bigger role when it comes to simpler and more mundane decisions…

… like figuring out what I want to have for an afternoon snack 😯

Weetabix soaked in almond milk, fresh blueberries, almond butter

You know… because choosing between a chocolate chip cookie or a muffin will change my life.

Actually, there was a time where choosing what to eat did feel like a matter of life and death, as I had to get it just right because eating a meal that I didn’t enjoy would throw off my entire day.

Thankfully, that’s no longer the case, but I do prefer to enjoy what I eat, which usually isn’t an issue since I just listen to my cravings. The problem is that my cravings start to fail me when I get too hungry, because then everything starts looking good, making it a lot harder to decide.

Cookies? Yogurt mess? Cereal? Fruit?

All of it!… which, unfortunately, only works some of the time.

For all those other times, I need to make a decision, and that’s where having a food blog kind of comes in handy. I won’t lie – there have been times where I’ve glanced through the pictures in my older posts to see if anything would pop out at me, and a lot of the time, it did.

So, I’ve decided to put together a little collection of some of my favorite snacks, both for myself and anyone else who struggles with snack time indecisiveness. Hope you enjoy πŸ˜€

I am literally drooling right now. You just have to go and post all these amazing snacks and make me incredibly jealous that you can create such yummy things because I’m the snacking QUEEN and get me upset because I don’t live near you, didn’t you?! πŸ˜› Just every. single. thing. I need in my belly right now!! I’m definitely bookmarking this page for inspiration too πŸ™‚
Gah I am so indecisive too..all I ever want is sweet stuff for snacks and I just love it all so much, it’s just so hard to decide! Sometimes my decision making is saved when things need eating because they’re going out date but otherwise it takes me a while haha.
I haven’t snacked yet today but last night’s snack was a blueberry mess with greek yogurt, blueberries, raspberries and dark chocolate dreams PB..and then a few handfuls of cereal/granola hehe πŸ™‚ yummm!

I wish I had a chocolate brownie right now but unfortunately there are none in the house *gasp* I know. I haven’t actually snacked yet today but the last thing I ate was an apple with the rest of my lunch of course πŸ˜›

Last snack I had was a strawberry shortcake ice cream bar. The decision was: be like old Tara and get cranky and hungry, or indulge in a little ice cream. Soooo glad I took the new route!
I definitely want to try cottage cheese with nutritional yeast! I bet that would be really good with some beans or on a salad. I never thought of that!

I too always have to think at least 5 minutes on what I’ll have fore lunch / dinner. I end up just grabbing whatever I have and throw them together.
Speaking of decisions, I hate choosing what to where for school every morning. Back when I went to a private school, it was SO easy to just put on my uniform. Now? Urggh, it’s the thief of my precious morning time.

p.s. Are you also allergic to seeds? Last thing I snacked on…(or that I snack at last once a day): Sunflower-seed butter spoons!!!! <3

Ahhh, good thing I was eating pancakes while reading this or else I wouldn’t have made it, your photos are delicious! When I was younger I used to leave the toy store empty handed all the time because I couldn’t chose and was worried if I did chose I was going to get the wrong one, so I felt it was safer to not get anything – I am sort of still like that but hopefully getting better.

I still can have a tough time making delicious– I’m better at the small ones now but big ones that I feel will affect me more can be grueling (and a tough hour and half for my poor mother, who I bounce everything off of :s). Last thing I snacked on was a peach and raw almonds… a couple hours before going to the fourth of july BBQ I just came home from. YUM!

Oh man, I am possibly THE most indecisive person on the face of the planet. And I have the same problem when it comes to choosing my eats! (Hence, my tendency to get into food ruts, I suppose) I hate getting to that point where I’m just SO ravenous, yet SO indecisive, to the point where I just don’t want ANYthing anymore.

I love your list – for reasons BEYOND the unbelievable food porn it features πŸ˜‰
(I actually have my own bootleg version – basically a list of quick eats on my desktop sidebar to refer to that I come up with when I’m not hungry…which, apparently, is when I have my BEST food-combo ideas… of course ;P)

My indecisiveness about meals always peaks whenever we get home from going to the grocery store–the fridge and pantry is overflowing with all sorts of combo possibilities and I just want them all at once haha! I’m normally *okay* about decision making in general, just not with food concoctions πŸ˜‰
Most recent snack was some greek yogurt, fiber one cereal, peanut butter, and protein powder all mashed up–so ugly it was purty! πŸ˜›

    Mmm… Those snacks look divine…
The last snack I had is the same snack I always have – Greek yogurt with 365 peanut butter and raspberry jam. It’s always amazing.

I have so much trouble making decisions… Which college to attend, what food to eat, which dress to buy, whether or not to wear a sweater today, shorts or pants, to workout or not to workout…

Decision making is a constant struggle for me. I put it down to my perfectionism. I am so afraid of making a mistake, ending up with an imperfect outcome, and feeling overwhelmed with regret that I would rather someone take the responsibility out of my hands. That way I won’t blame myself if it turns out badly.

I was so uncreative in the kitchen before, THANK YOU!

I’ve gotten much better at making decisions, especially when it comes to meals & snacks by just listening to my body & cravings. It makes it much easier, but I’m the same way you are when I get too hungry, everything sounds good. So not only am I cranky from being hungry, but not being able to decide what I want makes it even worse.

My last snack, which is my go to snack lately was a yogurt/cereal mess .. even if I can’t decide what I want, this mix never fails.
