. thinking out loud #78 .

May 15, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 110 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Before we get to the randomness, I need to share one more amazing food combo that I didn’t include in yesterday’s WIAW post — Popchips and avocado…

Popchips and Avocado

You guys… Do not try this. Or do, but don’t blame me if you become obsessed and end up going through bags and bags of avocados and chips. Not that I speak from experience or anything 😯

2. Speaking of bags of food… am I the only one who loves to dig straight to the bottom of a bag of cereal? Not because I’m looking for toys (do they still do that?!?!), but because that’s where all the sugary goodness settles. Hello, my name is Amanda and I’m a sugar addict… now pass me a spoon!

3. On to the randomness! Fun fact style πŸ˜‰

RF Just Do It

RF Snow

RF Painting Nails

RF Loud Music

RF Shave

1. Kind of changes the way you look at Nike, eh?
2. We have plenty in Canada!
3. I’ve heard this but I’m afraid to try it… I use fast-drying top coats instead.
4. … or why we turn down the radio when we’re going in reverse or looking for something?
5. Count me in among those 78%….

4. You know how I’m always saying that I have a really hard time sitting down and watching TV? Apparently this does not apply when it comes to old, old movies. Lately I’ve kind of fallen in love with movies from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. There’s just something about that era that I adore, and I love how the focus is more on the characters and storyline rather than flashy computer-generated graphics and special effects. I even managed to catch a good one with my mom when we were up in the mountains last weekend…

Stella Dallas

Stella Dallas, 1937.

5. Speaking of the mountains… a few pics from the trip! But first, a sign that made me laugh so hard I almost started crying…

Hazardous Cliff Sign

I mean… did they really need to show a pic of a guy tumbling off a cliff in such a nonchalant way? πŸ˜† Anyways, on to the pics!

Banff Mountains

Bow River Valley

Gorgeous Mountain Morning

Sunshine Village Gondola

Snowy Sunshine Mountains

If I had my way, the mountains would stay like this forever — snowy on the slopes and summery down below. Late-season riding is my absolute favourite, and I wish it could be this way all year long so that I could go snowboarding whenever I wanted without having to deal with wintery conditions. Ohhhhh in a perfect world…

6. In a perfect world, I’d also remember to bring my shopping lists with me when I go to the grocery store. I had to restock some staples yesterday and, as always, I left my list on the kitchen counter. Miraculously, I still managed to make it home with everything I needed…

Grocery Haul

… plus a kabocha that I cut up and threw in the oven as soon as I walked through the door, and some ground chicken that I left out of the picture because… no one wants to look at that stuff.

7. Someone needs to smack me for buying a citrus-based chap stick. There’s nothing wrong with it other than the fact that it smells absolutely amazing and makes my mouth water whenever I put it on. Nice. I also picked up a mint chocolate one, which you would think would make me start salivating like one of Pavlov’s dogs (right, Arman?), but that one doesn’t seem to have the same effect. Odd.

Grapefruit Chap Stick

8. Have you guys seen this?!?

Do Nothing

It’s a site called Do Nothing For 2 Minutes, and the point is… well… to do nothing for 2 minutes. I guess it’s meant to help you take breaks and relax throughout the day by kind of forcing you to stop fiddling with your mouse and keyboard by slapping you with a nice big FAIL if you touch either before the two minutes are up. Interesting concept.

9. And on one final note… Spoons hit over 1000 likes on Facebook the other day! And I may or may not have done a small happy dance when I found out πŸ˜‰ Thank you guys so much for supporting my little corner of the web and letting me do something that I love — you seriously rock my socks off.

Whoa! They definitely didn’t have those. There was only regular and sea salt vinegar to choose from. I went with the regular because they sounded the best with guac!

I’m really tempted to try the nail polish fact…but I would be so pissed if it didn’t work!

Those pictures are just gorgeous. I’m with you; going to the mountains in the spring is way better. Who wants to freeze their butt off just for a little extra powder? Not me.

Congrats on hitting 1,000 likes! I’m sure you will continue to get plenty more as time goes by. Especially with all of those delicious recipes you keep posting!

So if you’ve seen my post you’ll know I have no life and have been watching body builders “what I ate today” nonsense. Turns out they are kinda sorta brilliant because they’ve been eating those pop chips as “scoops” for their nachos and random “scoopage” requiring meals. Point being, after being intrigued by them and now convinced by you – I shall purchase a bag tomorrow and start poppin’

I feel guilty hording 3 kabochas that will more than likely collect dust. I wish shipping wasn’t so damn expensive so I could send them your way. In a perfect world you would be my neighbor so I could leave them on your doorstop and you could thank me by gifting me with that mint chocolate chap stick of yours. I would happily take it off your hands. Sounds damn good.

    <3 you!

Tell me your favorite old movies – I want to watch some but I never know where to start! They looks so wonderful and romantic, not even in a “love” way but just in the way they talk, move, etc.

Uhh I need to try that nail polish trick asap. That’s a huge problem for me so if it’s that easy that’d be miraculous. I’ll keep you posted! haha

okay, I am cracking up over here because I’ve always thought that I’m the only one that does #2. Whenever I open a new box of cereal I turn the bag upside down and shake it so that all the sugary goodness at the bottom comes up to the top before I open it up! My husband always laughs at me but it really does make it taste better! πŸ™‚

Are those pictures of Banff? I have friends in Nelson, BC who regularly go to Banff. I have heard it is gorgeous. Your pictures attest to that.
Love those odd facts. I’m tempted to apply nail polish solely for the purpose of testing the ice water trick out. (Of course, the fact that it’s over 100 degrees may have something to do with ice water’s appeal…)

Avocado can never be wrong in any shape or form, ever! Errr scratch that, it is pretty horrendous when it’s gone sour and bitter, actually. Haha, I wouldn’t know πŸ˜› Also, I looooove to see funny signs like that! There’s one right by our property that says “SLOW CHILDREN” with a child walking/running, but the funny thing is that punctuation makes that much of a difference. Greg says that he’s going to put my picture on that sign to insinuate that I’m….slow? Haha, that’s how we joke around.

I’ll pick an old-fashioned black and white movie over a modern-day box office hit any day. Sadly, I usually end up watching these either by myself or with my parents. People just don’t appreciate good film anymore! (Note, I’m basically already a senior citizen)

The ice water and nails thing really does work. I do it all the time (learned about it on a show called “A Dating Story” back when I was like 10). You need to put your hands in slowly, though, or the tips will smudge.
