. thinking out loud #24 .

March 28, 2013 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 74 Comments

1. True to form, yesterday’s eats were all about the protein and veggies after Tuesday’s cereal-and-sweet-fest. What’d I tell ya? It all balances out in the end… no need to plan things out so rigidly.

2. Is it just me, or did Easter come around ridiculously early this year? Maybe it’s the fact that we still have a good amount of snow on the ground and it looks more like Christmas than anything else, but wow… I can’t believe that the Easter Bunny will be visiting me this weekend (hint, HINT Mom… he WILL, right?)

3. Speaking of Easter, have you guys seen this Buzzfeed article about Easter Egg DIY’s? If not, I definitely recommend giving it a glance over if you’re in need of some fun decorating ideas. I’m kind of partial to these ones myself…

Easter Egg Candles

4. Okay, I have a very serious question that needs answering. Are you supposed to wash frozen fruit before you eat it? I’m really good about making sure my fresh fruit is washed (I even rinse melons and bananas before I cut into them), but I never bother rinsing my frozen fruit. Should I start? I have a feeling that the answer is probably yes, but frozen fruit is a lot less pleasant to eat after it’s been washed!

Frozen Blueberries

5. Speaking of unpleasant… I was super cold last night so I decided to take a hot shower before bed. Worst.decision.ever. I must have gotten way too hot or something because I could not fall asleep. I felt exhausted a little while after my shower, but I tossed and turned for hours when I lay down, alternating between feeling too hot and too cold. But the best part of all? I still woke up at 5 AM this morning… It’s going to be an interesting day. Bring on the coffee.

6. Guess who finally put their puzzle away!

Putting the Puzzle Away

It’s been what?… Something like two months since I finished that thing? And it’s been laying on my coffee table ever since. I didn’t want to take it apart since I put so much time putting it together, but I really had no idea what to do with it. Enter a brief “screw it” moment, and into the box it went. No regrets.

7. Something else that I should really get around to doing? Updating my iPhone…

iPhone Updates

Seeing those number on my home screen usually drives me nuts, but I… Actually, I have no idea why I haven’t done it yet. I’ll get around to it… eventually.

8. And the song of the week goes to…

[youtube=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kblj3AEjykM&w=560&h=315″]

9. I just finished the last sip of my favorite morning cup of tea. Sad face. But today is pretty much Friday and the start of a four-day weekend. Happy face dance!

10. Two more days. Until what? Well, Easter… AND! the start of season 3 of Game of Thrones. Squee! I came across this article on Thought Catalog the other day called “What your favorite Game of Thrones Character Says About You,” and apparently I’m “shy (but not cripplingly so), opinionated (but only offer your opinions when asked), stoic (but able to laugh at yourself) and, a hot girl. Yes, a hot girl.” Can’t complain!

Jon Snow

Are you going to be decorating eggs this year?
Do you wash your frozen fruit?
If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, who’s your favorite character?

I literally cant even THINK about Easter because Im throwing a bridal shoer the day BEFORE Easter. Seriously my life is a mess right now. I feel like Im going insane with everything I have to do/should do/wanna do.
All I know is that when Sunday rolls around, if there isn’t chocolate on my table Ninja is going to get backhanded. And then he is going to go buy me some discount Easter candy. 🙂

I always decorate eggs, but I feel like it has creeped up on me this year! Just yesterday I realized that Sunday was Easter so today I ran out in a scramble to get step son stuff for an Easter basket- what an awful step mom I am! I love the DIY Easter Eggs too, so cute! And about the frozen fruit- I never wash it either so Im curious now!?!?

It doesn’t look like anyone washes it, so I think we’re alright. And you still have a few days before Easter to get the eggs done! We always waited ’till the end too… it kind of feels more special that way 🙂

I don’t ever wash frozen fruit, I assume it’s already washed. To be honest, sometimes I forget to wash fruit that I buy at the grocery store. Gross, I know.

No need to wash frozen fruit prior to eating it 🙂 It is already washed and processed prior to being frozen! Yay for easiness!!

Oh I’m with you on the “hint to Mom” about Easter candy, my Mom better pull-through! Washing frozen fruit sounds like a LOT of work, I hope nobody tells us we should. Maybe on the decorating eggs, but if not I have about a trillion Easter recipes pinned I want to make, I’ll be in a Cadburry coma by midnight Saturday 🙂

I’m the absolutely last person you want to ask about whether or not you should be washing frozen fruit. :-p I’d say not to bother buuut….I’m not gonna wash any fruit anyways. If I eat a spider, it’s my own fault. :-p

And you know my answer to the GoT question 😀 which leaves me part ‘nice guy with a twist’ and part ‘spoiled brat’.
Shit – I have to rethink my favourite characters.

And who actually has Joffrey as their favourite character?

No decorating eggs this year, but there will be plastic eggs galore.

I would never in a million years have thought about washing frozen fruit.. I assume they handle that in whatever process to package it.

I am seriously baffled that it is almost Easter already! I guess it is true what they say about time flying by faster and faster every year. It is getting ridiculous!

And I cannot blame you for not putting that puzzle away. If I had a puzzle with cute puppy dogs on it I would want to keep it out for months, too :).

Putting away puzzles is never fun. I’m also a little crazy about making sure that EVERY single piece is separate from one another. If I don’t do that, I feel like I’m cheating when I decide to do the puzzle and a few pieces are already connected. I’m a total puzzle nerd.

I never wash my frozen fruit, but perhaps I AM supposed to…Oh well, it seems somewhat counter-productive to wash fruit that is supposed to stay frozen–washing it would just make it soft and thawed. Also, it’s possible that the fruit is pre-washed before it is frozen, though I am not sure if that is true or not. I have never watched Game of Thrones, but I have heard it is a fantastic show. I rarely watch TV, though, so I doubt I will get the chance to see it anytime soon:)

Well hello there, fellow John Snow fan 🙂 Although in the books my favourite character is Tyrion – not that Peter Dinklage does a bad job of portraying him at all, far from it, but John Snow is just too ridiculously cute in the TV series to ignore. And young. Very young. It felt rather wrong when I found out the age of the actor who plays him :/ But those descriptions are way off (hot girl, moi? Umm, NO) in my case. I peed myself laughing at the paragraph about people who like Joffrey though (are there such people?)

I never wash frozen fruit! I’m sure you don’t need to – the stuff we get in the UK is pre-washed anyway.

I love easter. And peeps. And jellybeans. And every other kind of sugar that goes with it. I don’t think the easter bunny will be visiting me this year sadly. That’s really interesting about the eating thing. I guess I crave a lot of other foods when I eat too much of one food group, but I never looked at it like a balancing act!

I don’t think you need to wash frozen fruit. I’ve taken a few food safety classes as part of my major, and frozen fruit/vegetables were never included in produce you should wash before consuming. Also, while washing bananas is going the extra mile, washing melons before cutting them up is definitely something everyone should do. Food pathogens that are transmitted through the fecal/oral route tend to gather in the rind/peel of melons since they grow in the ground. Even though this protects the edible part of the melon from disease while it grows, when you cut into the melon w/o washing it, the pathogens can get on the melon in that way.

Washing frozen fruit? Nah, totally overrated if anybody even says it should be done. I can’t imagine that we’d be supposed to do that because where would be all the sense in freezing “dirty” produce? Isn’t it meant to be faster and easier to prep than fresh ;)?!
Lucky you if your mum gets you Easter gifts, ahem, I meant: If the Easter bunny still pays you a visit. I’m not going to celebrate Easter in a traditional way in this year. I’m going to just cook some tasty food and spend the time with my mother talking, watching movies and relaxing. I feel like I need this.
When I was younger, my Easter used to be more traditional and religious. But since my partens have divorced, nothing’s the same and there’s nothing I can do about it so I decided to accept it.
And if you’re asking about frozen fruits… Oh, I never wash them! I’ve never even thought of that. Oo
