. thinking out loud #136 .

June 25, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 79 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Hooooo-boy. This week has been a real doozy. Do people still say that these days? Doozy? It’s not giving me a red squiggly line, so I guess it must still be a thing. Either way, the past couple of days have been a little hectic, and I’ve had to sack one post this week to keep my sanity in tact with all the work, school, and personal obligations I’ve had. Sowwy. I had every intention of putting up a What I Ate Wednesday post yesterday, but the brain just wasn’t having it. So I figure I’ll share some food-related stuff today instead…

2. I’m back to eating oats for breakfast. In typical Amanda fashion, I went from drinking smoothies when it was -30C outside to eating oats when it’s +30C. My body makes no sense, but I’ve learned to stop asking questions and just go with the flow.

Molasses Oats

3. One thing that has been making sense, though, is my crazy watermelon addiction. I’ve been eating melons like they’re going out of style, and I may or may not have suffered multiple melon bellies over the past few weeks. Can’t help it. They’re so good in the summer heat.

Watermelon Snacking

4. Speaking of the summer heat… remember when I said my AC wasn’t working? You have to promise not to laugh, but the reason it wasn’t working was because the main switch on the wall was turned off. Like… what? I’ve been living in my place for almost 4 years and I didn’t even know that that’s what that switch did. But I had a guy come look at it and all he did was flip that switch and voila. Good as new. I guess I must have accidentally hit it when I was cleaning. Or something ๐Ÿ™„

5. Cleaning! Riddle me this… Why is it that I can make my place look spotless in the 10 minutes before someone comes over, but then it takes me like 4 hours when I’m left to my own devices? One of life’s great mysteries.

6. Back to food. Say hello to the umpteenth batch of cookie dough protein granola bars that I’ve made…

Cookie Granola Bars

It’s kind of crazy how addicted to these I am. Like… I have to have a batch on hand at all times otherwise I don’t quite know what to do with my life. It’s quite sad. But they’re just so soft and chewy and chocolatey and… ughhh. So good. So, so good.

7. And granola… ohhhh granola. Or should I say crack. It’s another one of those foods I have a hard time controlling myself around, and between melon bellies and granola bellies, I feel like I’m constantly walking around with a minor food baby. Totally worth it. Especially when we’re talking double chocolate banana granola…

Double Chocolate Granola

8. I’m more tan on one side of my body than I am on the other… at least when it comes to my arms. My left arm is definitely a few shades darker than my right arm, and I’m totally blaming the time I spend in my car on that one. Apparently I need to spend more time riding around in the passenger seat.

Car Tanning

9. But hopefully I’ll get a chance to even things out when I’m in Vegas next week #happydance. I’ve been trying to coordinate a trip with some friends for a few months now, and we finally figured out a time when it would work for all of us, so I’ll be hitting up Sin City next week for a few days of fun. And hopefully some time by the pool.

Bellagio Fountains

10. Alright, friendly faces, that’s it for me. Have a happy Thursday!

Don’t apologize for missing a post! I feel like bows the best time to take it eSy with blogging since most people are spending less time on their computers.
That’s crazy about your AC but I guess it’s good news that you finally figured it out. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And Vegas sounds like it will be a blast! I’ve never been but I’m sure between all of the Cirque shows and good restaurants, I could make myself right at home!

You’ve definitely sparked a craving for watermelon in me… we’re having those perfect, slow-as-honey and perfectly warm summer evenings and that’s when the colder food cravings kick in for me! You’ve actually just inspired me to create some sort of spiked watermelon frosty (how good does that sound) for an upcoming post ๐Ÿ˜ฎ . I also just went and searched out the codex to add that there emoji. Why don’t they have an eating one? BLASPHEMY.

Also! Vegas! You’re going to be in my country! Woo! Hopefully that’s not the closest we’ll ever get to seeing each other ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Vegas!! Fun…enjoy!
Unless you always have your window unrolled you won’t tan your arm in a car. UVB rays that cause tanning get blocked by glass. Just a fun fact for you. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m still enjoying hot oats even though it’s in the 80s here. And my apartment has many mysterious switches as wellโ€”I’m honestly not sure what half of them do!

Melon belly! Now I can finally call it a name, haha. I’m right there with you. With the hot weather and the fact that I already love fruit, I’ve been eating soooo much watermelon. I feel like I’m about to burst after chowing down on at least 5 slices at a time, but it is more than worth it. Summer is just meant for watermelon.

I only eat watermelon in the summer, and I refuse to think of eating it any other time of the year. Is that weird?

You are so right about the cleaning point, I can get my house pretty clean in less than 10 mins if someone if coming over, recently I took me a week just to even get the motivation to do a thorough cleaning with dusting, vacuuming, etc.

I hear ya on the a/c switch. Last year the battery died on my smoke detector so of course the darn thing starts beeping, having never replaced one before I took a stab at it and thought I had it…until it started beeping again…the maintenance guy came over and the battery was in the wrong way…I felt like such an idiot.

    Thanks for hosting!

Ha ha ha ha ha! The A/C switch story made me laugh and laugh! Our internet wasn’t working once and the tech guy came over and plugged it in. I DIED. So embarrassing.

I think everyone’s left arm is tanner than their right–it just makes sense. As for watermelon, YES. It’s the perfect summertime food.

Cookie dough!!! I love it! I did laugh a bit at your switch A/C discovery, but only because I do stuff like that all the time. The other day I ran half a mile back to my apartment because I “forgot my sunglasses” and they were on my head the whole time. D’oh! Glad you’re able to be cool again. It’s so not hot in Scotland that I honestly don’t even know what month it is. It was 44 degrees F this past Sunday. :/

I had my first watermelon yesterday. I felt so sick afterwards for maybe 30 seconds and then I wanted more. Addictive stuff! And I eat granola by the hadful every time I go to the kitchen… When we have granola at home my dinner always is so small because I am not hungry anymore after cooking. Cooking with granola in reach…. my bad!
Can’t wait to go to Vegas in September! Have fun and say hi to the fountains ๐Ÿ˜‰

We totally have a misc wall switch in our bedroom. No clue what it does. I’m guessing that there used to be an overhead light there, but there isn’t now, and it doesn’t control the wall outlets or anything. So you were totally fine in having no idea!

Given I just cleaned my apartment [more or less intensely] yesterday I think the reasoning behind #5 is intrinstic versus extrinsic motivation. When somebody else is announcing a visit it’s obvious we want every inch of our living room to be spotless while when it’s just us, our comfy clothes and laptop … You know what I mean.
Also: watermelon. I need some in my life.

So I’ve been working on a double chocolate granola too. Oops, we should coordinate these things better, although mine has no bananas and lots of coconut.

I’ve been wanting watermelon something fierce but I’ve held myself back because we’ll eventually get tons in the CSA and I want to restrain myself until the time comes. Wish me luck.

And I will wish you luck in Vegas. Go get ’em.

I am addicted to your chocolate chip cookie dough bars! I have been eating one every day for the past 2 weeks and I think they are gonna need to be a regular part of my weekend meal prep from now on…or I might have to try the protein granola bars next time!
I definitely have more color on my left side than on my right. The other day when I was at the pool the sun was totally just hitting me at a weird angle. I also have a weird tan line on my shins from sitting outside in capris over the weekend.

That’s funny, because I went from smoothies in the winter to your mug cake now! And apparently also had food on the brain (but then obviously I always do). And just lady night my husband & I were talking about Vegas & visiting the pool (for me), except in August when it’ll be a gazillion degrees! We’ve bern there once in august before, but back then we lived in Austin so it wasn’t so bad. Now we live in upstate NY!
