what was this doing in my toilet?!?! (ToL#193)

July 28, 2016 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 75 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Not gonna lie. My brain does NOT feel up for stringing together coherent sentences this morning, and I’m feeling crabby for no reason other than indulging in a little crabbiness 😒 And if you’re wondering why I don’t just step away from the keyboard and wait for the mood to pass, it’s because I like to write my ToL posts throughout the day, starting in the morning and ending at night. Is that the most productive way? Probably not, but I just feel like it captures the whole randomness aspect a lot better since I’m literally writing whatever comes to mind at any given moment. The only thing on my mind right now, though, is coffee… so excuse me while I go caffeinate myself into a better mood.

Caffeinate

2. Aaaaaaaaand we’re back! Back at the keyboard and back to our old peppy selves… or at least on our way there. And because I know you’re dying to know what I got up to while I was gone, I was obsessing over putting together new Facebook and Twitter cover pictures, since the last ones I uploaded were from way back in 2014, and I feel like my photography has changed a lot since then. I’ve really been loving the darker/moodier style, and I’m currently having all sorts of fun experimenting with shadows and contrasts.

2016Facebook Cover

Looks quite dashing, eh?

3. And speaking of photography, can we please talk about how obsessed I am with basically every.single photography surface from Erickson Wood Works?!? I’m 99.9% sure that I’m going to get one (possibly two), the question is… which one(s)?!?

Erickson Wood Works

4. Also obsessed with this remix of Trap Queen, and wondering how long it’ll be before I kill it by constantly playing it on repeat 😂 I give it another week at least.

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmPm5iYOklg&w=640&h=427″]

5. Obsession #3 involves that Slither game I mentioned last week. Only I think I’m less obsessed with the game itself as I am with getting to #1 snake/worm/thing. The closest I’ve come is #3, and that was a long-ass battle so I don’t know if I have the patience for #1. Survey says: most likely NO.

Slither Score2

6. Obsession #4 (how did I get on this road?!?!) involves baked potato fries. That’s really all I have to say about that.

Baked Potato Fries

7. Obsession #… I’m kidding. I’M KIDDING! I also forgot what I actually wanted to say, so give me a minute 🤔 Oh yeah! The other night, I walked into my bathroom some time before going to bed, and there was A FREAKING SPIDER just chilling right on top of the water in my toilet. And yes, he/she/it was very much alive. Let’s just say I’ve been using my other bathroom since then.

8. And on that wonderfully pleasant note…. Have a happy Thursday!!

I’m obsessed with baked potato fries as well right now. Good old russets are my favorite but sweet potato/yam ones are great also. I eat them with salads at least once per week.
Your food photography is stunning – I love the contrast and darker backgrounds!

I find myself getting easily obsessed with really beautiful food photography, too! I don’t blog about recipes often, but every time I see a collection of really great food photography, I start to think that maybe I should start writing more food posts. Definitely inspirational!

Wow, you cheer up so quickly Amanda. :o) I need to be more like that. And baked potato fries are really good. I love any kind of fry, smothered in ketchup. 😀 I also really love that darker, moodier style of photography. It really has a lot of depth and character to it.

I definitely haven’t always been this way, Emily! I think what helped the most was regularly practicing gratitude and kind of realizing that bad moods are a waste of time. I know it sounds a little silly and simplistic, but it’s gotten to the point where being in a bad mood literally feels like a waste of life.

And OMG those boards! I am actually looking to learn more about photography and thought of going to a flooring or home improvement store to see if I could get a slab, but those are so beautiful!

There has been a big spider in the basement for WEEKS & I swear every time I go down there to do laundry the guy is bigger. Well the other day I went down and there is now a family of THREE. So, I got the shop vac & sucked those guys right up. Heart pounding all the way. And then still made the BF go down and put my laundry in the dryer. In case they crawled out & wanted revenge.

There was a giant dead bug on the floor the other morning and I told the Hubby we need to move. He then proceeded to tell me about a giant, very much alive, bug he found in the basement. He said it was unlike any bug he’s ever seen before, so yeah we’re creating new species of bugs over here. Yep, definitely time to move.

I’m thinking about starting a puzzle. Yes I realize this is connected to nothing in your post. I thought you’d appreciate it all the same.

The spider thing! Once, there was one on the inside rim of my parents’ toilet (which I learned after it crawled down to the water), and I seriously checked every toilet for at least three months to make sure there were no spiders hanging out there. Not a fan of spiders. And I could totally go for some fries right now 🙂

Gotta love those sneaky critters. I was sitting at clinic yesterday eating a salad I’d brought for lunch and bit into what may or may not have been a bug. I chewed a little extra, swallowed. I must have had a weird look on my face, so I just shrugged and said to my colleague. “Hm. I think I just ate a bug. Extra protein, I guess.” What are you gonna do?

Oh gosh I totally need to re-do my Facebook page! And I’ve heard of those boards but like you, I seriously just can’t decide! I think I would lean more towards a wood texture though, but thats personally because it’s my favorite 😉
And seriously a spider crawling up from the toilet is like one of my most irrational fears. I had ants in my toilet a few weeks ago and I was just like, really? You’re drowning – why on earth would you be in the toilet?

Rustic wood is so gorgeous, and I’m pretty sure that’s going to end up being one I pick. Also… ants. Omg. I’m lucky to be pretty high up so ants have no business in my place. Ladybugs, on the other hand, seem to love my balcony.

Hi Amanda! I’ve been reading your blog for a few years now and really enjoy it! You mentioned that you picked up the Renpure cleansing conditioner while browsing at the grocery store – have you seen good results with the product? I actually bought the same one after I saw you post about it, and was curious about your thoughts on the product. My hair definitely lasts longer in between washings, but based on reviews that I have read, I am using about 3x the amount that the directions say to use. I also kind of feel like my hair doesn’t feel as soft, it is kind of brittle? How many times a week do you use it? Do you also use any other products in your hair? Thanks!

      July 29, 2016 at 2:01 pm

Hi Jennifer! I’d say I use anywhere from 20-30 pumps, so definitely a little more than the directions say; and I wash roughly 2 times a week. I did go through a period of time where my ends in particular were feeling a little brittle, but I found that focusing more on the ends instead of just my scalp really helped clear that up. That and sometimes I’ll switch out the Renpure with just a regular conditioner. The only other product I use on my hair is dry shampoo.

Ewww to the spider! When we lived in TX we had saw palmetto bugs. Think large, flying cockroaches. Sometimes they’d come crawling out of a drain — so disgusting! But I never saw one in the toilet & they don’t bite!

I think obviously right now I’m obsessed with the animals. And baking. Food wise, nothing comes to mind. It’s been too freaking hot & I’ve been too tired. I freaked my husband out by eating my (cooked) salmon cold several days after it was cooked. Obviously I survived just fine!

Anytime I kill a bug, even when I KNOW that I killed it, I flush it down the toilet and then flush said toilet about 3x just to be sure it’s gone but I have this major fear the thing is going to come back to life and show up exactly where you found yours…but for some reason that seems better than it coming back to life and crawling out of the garbage to find me while I’m sleeping. Bugs….gross.
