. thinking out loud #117 .

February 12, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 87 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. I have to start by saying that you guys are freaking epic! I mentioned in January’s At A Glance post that I was hoping to hit over 100 Thinking Out Loud submissions “in the next few months,” and you guys went ahead and knocked that goal out of the park just one week later! Last week’s ToL was the biggest one to date with 105 submissions, and I just wanted to thank you guys and let you know how much I appreciate everyone who participates, comments, or even just lurks silently πŸ˜‰ You guys rock my socks off.

2. What doesn’t rock my socks off is when I somehow manage to dump 1/2 cup of dried dill into my mashed potatoes because someone (read: Amanda) didn’t screw the lid on well enough and it went flying into the pot on the first good shake…

Too Much Dill

I ate them anyways πŸ˜† Not with all the dill, mind you, but I only managed to scrape some of it off so my potatoes were slightly dill-ier than I would have liked. Oh wells.

3. Had I not been starving and ready to eat my left arm off (I’m right handed so I need the right one), I probably would have whipped up a batch of buckwheat kasha instead. I’ve been trying to rotate my grains lately so that I can get some more variety in my diet, which lead to me falling in love with kasha all over again. I’m not the biggest fan of plain buckwheat groats, but when they’re toasted? Heaven. They have a really distinct nutty flavour and a nice fluffy texture. I definitely recommend giving them a try if you’ve never had them before!

Buckwheat Breakfast for Dinner

4. I also recommend these two things from MAC…

MAC Products

Fix+ and Cleanse Off Oil. I’ve been using both on and off for years, and we’re currently very much on. That dry skin I mentioned as being the bane of my existence in the beginning of February? Very much gone… at least on my face. I’ve been using the oil in place of my regular cleanser to take off my makeup at night, and Fix+ a few times throughout the day. Both are great for keeping that irritating tight skin feeling at bay.

5. You know when you spend so much time looking at the same word that it no longer makes any sense? That’s exactly what happened to me and “sample” while I was trying to pick out fonts the other day. It got to the point where I was like… “is that even English?!?“

Sample Fonts

6. I also got the weirdest craving for orange juice [the other day]. And I say “the weirdest” because I’m not really a big juice drinker. I used to be, but it’s been a good handful of years since I actually went out of my way to get some. It reminded me of my little kid days when Mom would always put a juice box in my lunch kit. Awwwrs.

Orange Juice

7. Speaking of my little kid days… I miss playing video games! I’ve been a pretty solid gamer for as long as I can remember, and it’s always been one of my favourite ways to relax and de-stress. Some people watch their favourite shows; I play my favourite games. That being said, I can’t even remember the last time I played one πŸ˜₯ Heck, I’ve even stopped playing FarmVille! That needs to change…

Warcraft Druid

8. This is getting a tad bit long, so I’m going to end it on #8 this week… by asking if you have any plans for Valentine’s? I can’t say that Valentine’s has ever been my favourite holiday to celebrate (regardless of whether I was single or not), but I’m not one of those people that flat out hates it either. I’ll be heading up to the mountains this weekend, not on a romantic getaway, but to batter my poor body on the slopes. It’s going to be a good time

I had a similar “this doesn’t rock my socks off” moment yesterday when I somehow manage to knock my entire cup of coffee onto my breakfast, table and pants LOL.

We are planning on hanging out at MOA Friday..and literally made these plans today since our other plans fell through. woot.

    Happy Thursday! <3

Nope, no real V-Day plans here. We have a little shin-dig to attend Friday, but on Saturday I’ll just be making lasagna at home. (The fastest way to a man’ heart is through his stomach, and the fastest way to their stomach is with good homemade baked pasta dishes, with extra cheese of course.)

I actually buy it already toasted from the store (Bob’s Red Mill sells it), but I’m sure there are recipes out there that can help! Even just a quick Google search turned up this one — http://www.livestrong.com/article/486159-how-to-toast-buckwheat/

Oh my gosh, I am totally guilty of that spice mishap. Sometimes I open the wrong section of the container and instead of it being the tiny holes its the really large ones…. and then it all goes downhill from there πŸ™

I love dill, but yeah, a 1/2 cup…yikes!! Haha. I hate when that happens! One time I accidentally shook a bunch of cinnamon into a Mexican dish thinking it was actually cumin. Doh.

I’m not typically a huge juice person either, but fresh squeezed orange juice or lemonade…mmmmmm!! I will never turn it down.

Urg, don’t even get me started on the dry skin! I’ve been having major struggles because when I use any sort of oil or super heavy cream, my skin breaks out. BUT if I use any sort of pimple fighting cream/ointments my skin gets super dry. I’m tempted to try the Mac oil.. but I don’t want to break out!

That was my fear as well, but I haven’t had any problems in the year+ that I’ve been using it! You can always give it a try and return it if it doesn’t work for you. MAC is really good with that.

MAC products are really nice. For dry skin, I have actually been using a little bit of a spot treatment with argan oil. The winter months are brutal for skin. I am not all that into Valentine’s Day anymore. It used to be a bigger deal when I was younger. Now I see it as more of a Hallmark holiday. My boyfriend and I are going to go out to dinner and a movie. However, when I was single I was fine with just letting it pass by.

You craved OJ and I craved chocolate milk this week. I was thinking before how real the cravings are because after I had it, I didn’t think about it again and don’t want any now. I used to live on Tropicana Orange Juice and now it’s my son’s favorite in the morning.

Mac Make up is my favorite. They are one of the few brands that does not cause my skin to break out (which is huge).

I can only imagine how dry it is in Canada right now. It’s super dry down here. I remember my face being so darn dry.

Oh, that second-/third-/times-a-million-guessing words is an almost daily occurrence for me. Probably worsened by the fact I’m a grammar and word nerd and hate hate hate making mistakes. Hence why I don’t read my posts again after hitting publish. It’s a measure of self-protection.
The idea of changing up grains is very much up my alley. I’ve been trying to do that at least partially with my meal prep and in an effort to use it what’s in my pantry and hey, I finished a two-pound bag of brown rice and a huge box of wheatberries so that’s a win. Now I wish there wasn’t such a lot of pasta because I don’t crave it at. all.
Your video game mention is making me miss Playstation games with friends a little. We never had one at home but I distinctively remember those sessions at certain friends’ houses. Mario Party. Oh, Peaches, the princess … Aaah, good old times.
