. thinking out loud #111 .

January 1, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 72 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Happy New Year, friendly faces!!!! And yes, that sentence very much requires four exclamation points. How was your night?! Did you do anything exciting to ring in the new year? Did you stay home and fall asleep before midnight? I didn’t have any concrete plans going into the evening, but since it was relatively warm (0ΒΊC, 32Β°F) for a December night, a bunch of us decided to head downtown to enjoy the festivities and watch the fireworks at midnight. It was a nice way to welcome in the new year, and I can’t help but feel like 2015 is going to be a good one. I’m wishing you beautiful people all the best in the upcoming year! I hope that you rock the socks off your resolutions, and that all your dreams become realities. Awwwr.

2. There’s been a change of plans in the planner department. You know how I originally said I was going to go with one from personal-planner.com? Wellllll… after mulling it over for about a week and reading/watching countless reviews online, I decided to take the plunge and go for an Erin Condren Life Planner instead. I’ve been hearing people rave about them for quite a while now, and after looking into them in a little more detail, I definitely think the hype is well-deserved. The only downside is that I was a little late in placing my order, so my planner won’t get here for another week or two. Le boo.

3. At least I have these to tide me over ’till then…

Emoji Stickers

I spotted them for the first time back in May, and finally decided to buy some under the pretext of using them in my new planner… when it gets here πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯ πŸ˜₯

4. I also may or may not have picked up another notebook [to add to the huge collection I already have], but I’m a complete sucker for cute notebooks and I needed (read: wanted) a new one for business/blogging brainstorming. Nothing beats getting ideas down on paper — I’m getting excited just thinking about it #closetgeek.

Dreams Notebook

5. So I’m not sure if I want to make another memory jar this year. I’ve kept one for the past two years, and while I’m a huge fan of the idea of writing down something good about each day (it seriously worked wonders for my positivity/happiness levels), I think I’m going to carry on doing it in book form instead. I’ve been using this One Line A Day five-year memory book for a few months now, and I really love the convenience factor. Plus it’ll be awesome to have so many years in one place and be able to look back 2, 3, 4 years from now and see what happened on that same day in the past.

One Line A Day

6. Me before coffee and me after coffee…

Before Coffee

After Coffee

Notice how even the colour tone of the picture is different? πŸ˜† I may not drink a lot of coffee, but you better believe that I look forward to my one cup a day like a crazy person. Don’t mess with my java.

7. Speaking of coffee… this has never happened to me before — I actually got a fancy design on a Starbucks latte. I almost didn’t want to drink it because it will probably never happen again, but… coffee.

Pretty Coffee Design

8. I found Nemo! He was hanging out in Banff Springs…

Finding Nemo

… and so was a certain Sprinkle…

Spoons and Sprinkles

9. Do you guys make any New Year’s resolutions? I have to admit that I’m not normally a huge fan of them, but I have some high hopes for this upcoming year, and I made a small list of personal, professional, and physical goals that I’ll be working on. I’ll go into more detail on those in a future post, though, because I think I’ve done enough Thinking Out Loud for today.

10. Oh, and Happy New Year again πŸ˜€

I don’t need a new planner, but do you recommend a good place to find cute address books?

I actually got a new dual list for Christmas and it’s become my favorite tool. It has two lists: one for home and one for work, which I have promptly made ‘blog work.’ It’s awesome-sauce. The Hubby and I had a 2015 wall calendar on our Christmas list, but we didn’t get one so we order it yesterday which means like you, we are flying solo right now. It’s a little unnerving and strange.

The Spoons pre and post coffee pics is a real thing; I can attest to this. I saw it myself in Toronto, multiple times. I can’t wait to see it again in 2015.

Happy New Year! I have that same journal with the once a day thought I’ve never used it though, maybe I should start? I have a million notebooks, somedays I like one, other days others I don’t think about it too much. I use what feels good, can you really have too many?

I’m glad I’m not the only crazy Edmontonian who shelled out the 40 dollars shipping for the Erin planner!:) I ordered mine on the 30th so I’m hoping to get it around the 16-20th of January. I ordered a notebook to cause I figured I may as we’ll make it worthwhile! When did you order yours?

Omg isn’t the shipping insanity?!? I went back and forth for so long before deciding that I really couldn’t do without one. I ordered mine on the 26th and it said it would be shipped out around Jan 6th. So long πŸ˜₯

I was thinking about submitting a follow me around type vlog for this linkup, but a large portion of it is about me buying peanut butter… LOL better not!
I’ve been contemplating getting that planner for a while, but I love the Lilly Pulitzer one I have currently (that runs from this past August to this coming December). We’ll see!

I’m a big fan of goals. I make them every month and if nothing else, it is just a good way for me to recap the things I did well and things I need to work on on a semi-regular basis. So I make goals for the year, and then my monthly goals are generally a breakdown of how to make my yearly goals happen.

I also love planners/notebooks and have a million of them. There’s something about writing things down that I love and that makes me feel more connected than a list on my phone or computer.

    Happy New Year!

NO, NO it will happen again! Starbucks launched latte art a few months back and everyone has been toying with it ever since. It’s not a requirement, more of a “you’re now allowed to do this” so anyone that is inspired or interested has been doing it!! You just got yourself a fun loving barista to make this drink. I’ve tried it a few times, but definitely need some practice. We are also introducing the “flat white” soon, so be on the lookout!

I want to use a planner more this year. Perhaps that should be a goal of mine.
