. as we speak… in the mountains [again] .

March 31, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 68 Comments

Hey, hey! Happy Monday! 😀

I think that came across sounding a little more enthusiastic than I actually feel… After spending the last two days snowboarding, driving, and staying up far later than I’m used to, I.am.tired. How the heck did I used to do this all the time when I was younger?!? I have no idea, but I do know that I’m definitely going to need an extra cup of coffee or two to get through today.

I had a blasty blast, though, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. In fact, I may be able to do it again in a few weeks, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves and recap this last weekend first, shall we? And let’s do it selfie As We Speak style…

As we speak, I’m… trying to shake the feeling that I forgot something. Toothbrush? Check. Phone? Check. Underwear? Check. Hmm…

Did I Forget Something?

I’m also simultaneously admiring my eyelashes… Thank you, Maybelline.

Pretty Eyelashes

As we speak, I’m… currently out of commission. No coffee = no talkie.

I'm Out Of Commission

Here’s some random scenery instead…

Random Rocks

Frozen Lake

Sunny Mountains

As we speak, I’m… one step closer to becoming more human…

Enjoying My Coffee

Thank you, dear friend…

Road Trip Bux

As we speak, I’m… happy to be out of the car after a 3.5 hour drive and gearing up for a day on the slopes.

Gearing Up For Boarding

As we speak, I’m… keeping myself entertained on the [long] way up the mountain by snapping pictures on the chairlift. Note to self: do not take gloves off for extended periods of time when it’s cold and windy out. Ouch.

Chairlift Selfie

Up The Chairlift

Up The Chairlift2

Lots of Trees

Mountain at Marmot

As we speak, I’m… strapping myself in at the top of the mountain, apparently with no idea that my picture was being taken…

Snowboard Strapping In

Snowboard Strapping In2

As we speak, I’m… apparently feeling the need to snap a picture of the banana I was eating during an afternoon break in the lodge. Blogging habits die hard. It was a good banana.

Snowboarding Banana

As we speak, I’m… back on the slopes! And looking for my snowboard in the crazy amount of snow they had up there. Conditions.were.awesome.

Looking For My Snowboard

Snowboard Buried In Snow

As we speak, I’m… done for the day and calling dibs on my bed back at the hotel. The one by the window/patio is always mine.

Dibs On The Bed

As we speak, I’m… taking the ever-classy bathroom selfie [after winning my choice of beds]… I’m also singing the [annoying] #Selfie song in my head. But first… let me take a selfie…

Hotel Room Selfie

As we speak, I’m… making hotel room oatmeal on Sunday morning. Please note the Starbucks cup that I saved from the day before and the cinnamon shaker that I brought from home. Now I just need to start remembering to bring salt…

Hotel Oatmeal Breakfast

As we speak, I’m… at it again for round two. I’m also secretly wondering what the heck I’m supposed to do with my hands. Oh posing… you make me feel all sorts of awkward…

On The Mountains Again

As we speak, I’m… enjoying the views on the way home… for all of about 30 minutes before I started asking #arewethereyet?!? Why is it that the drive home always feels so much longer than the drive there?

On The Way Home

And now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go ahead and eat everything in sight. Snowboarding cranks up my appetite like nothing else, so I see an epic day of eats ahead of me. Happy Monday, friends! Make it a good one! 😀

My mind is running a blank for questions, so tell me one awesome thing that happened this weekend.

The scenery there is so pretty! I might actually LIKE winter if it looked like that here. But instead I tend to be surrounded by gross brown slushy streets. 😛 Thank goodness spring seems to finally be here at last – it’s been above 10 degrees these past few days!

One awesome thing that happened this weekend was seeing my old roommates for the first time in like 8 months! We went to our old stompin’ grounds in London and tried to party it up like the good old days… except we couldn’t last past 1:30 am haha. Guess we’re getting old.

It’s gross and slushy around Edmonton too — only nice up in the mountains. And I know what you mean about not being able to last as long as you used to… that’s exactly what I was thinking all weekend 😆

Ohh looks like a GREAT trip! I know what you mean when you say the drive back feels like it takes longer than the drive there. Guess you just get worn out and dread the drive back haha!

Hope you can get some extra rest <3

I can’t believe I didn’t go boarding this winter. That’s the first time in years! All those pics of the scenery are beautiful. Although I hate taking my phone out on the lift! Too risky – I’m prone to drop my phone!

As we speak… I am sitting at my desk (I’m a teacher). I am so happy I stumbled across your blog! My passion for nutrition is very similar to yours. What are your thoughts on stevia? I have recently tried adding it to my oatmeal, but can definitely live without it. I just don’t want to put anything harmful into my body. Thanks!

      March 31, 2014 at 8:14 pm

I don’t use stevia mostly because it doesn’t agree with my stomach — it bloats me up like crazy. That being said, I’ll still buy the occasional product that contains small amounts of it, but I don’t add it to any of my food. There’s not enough research out there to tell if it’s harmful or not, but I do know that a lot of people complain about it messing with their tastebuds and making them crave sweeter foods.

Okay, so I’ve never been the hugest fan of winter sports but the pictures of the chairlifts alone bring back a plethora of memories. The ski holidays in the French alps with my grandparents and other relatives. Being out on the slopes all day. Returning to giant pots of pesto pasta prepared by my grandma and sitting together chatting all evening. It’s been so long! Anyway, I’m glad to hear you had a ‘blasty blast’ and fingers crossed for a repeat soon!
As we speak I’m supposed to work on a press information paper but I… needed a break?! A little bit of blog reading to keep myself entertained and my thoughts inspired. Just the way you do, right?

Reading your trips about snowboarding makes me miss my weekends skiing growing up. Until I became serious about swimming, we used to go to a resort a few hours away almost every weekend and I loved it. I don’t miss being cold all the time though! As we speak I should be studying for nutrition but instead I’m drinking hot chocolate and catching up on blogs. No surprise there.
