. reasons to smile on a monday .

July 11, 2011 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 66 Comments

Yipee it’s Monday!! 😀

Call me crazy, but I actually enjoy Mondays. Maybe it has to do with getting back into my regular routine, or maybe it’s the whole “Monday is like a fresh start” thing, but I never dread the beginning of a new week like the majority of society seems to… especially when it’s a Monday like today – one that gives me so many reasons to crack a smile.

. – . – . – .

Starting the day off RIGHT…

… unlike yesterday. Welcome back chocolate. I’ve missed you dearly…

… and I’ve also made sure to avoid missing you in the near future…

. – . – . – .

Sunshine…

It’s been kind of miserable [read: cloudy and rainy] here for the past week, so it was nice to see a whole 2.2 seconds of sunshine this morning before the clouds rolled back in.

. – . – . – .

Feeding the addiction…

I cracked this baby open in the morning, and it’s basically gone now… I would say that I have a problem, except that I don’t see it as one 😀 The last few slices won’t live to see the light of another day. Guaranteed.

. – . – . – .

Mini anything…

Why is it that mini versions of anything make them that much more enjoyable? Mini spoons. Mini yogurts. This was my first time trying the pomegranate blueberry flavor, and it’s surprisingly good. Tastes like blueberry at first, and then the pomegranate kind of sneaks up on you and makes you go “ooooo“. And 3.25%? Just heavenly.

. – . – . – .

Feeling STRONG and rockin’ a workout…

I’ve decided to take weekends off from exercise by cutting out the run that I usually take on Saturdays, and the extra rest has done wonders for my progress. After two days off, my body feels refreshed and ready to kick some serious ass, so Monday’s workouts always rock, and today was no exception.

. – . – . – .

Fast food…

I always whip up my protein smoothie right before my workout, and leave it in the fridge so that I can enjoy it as soon as I’m done. So refreshing. So nourishing. Loooove. And yes, I just eat it straight out of the Bullet container, because cleaning extra dishes is too much like work.

. – . – . – .

Acting like a girl…

Deer Valley Spice by OPI

I usually prefer buying food over clothes, but lately I’ve been in the mood for some good old fashioned shopping, and seeing as it happens so infrequently, I decided to take advantage of it and hit up the mall this weekend. Today saw me walking into Victoria’s Secret, and walking out with some comfy clothes to wear around the house – 2 pink tees and a gray hoodie.

. – . – . – .

Words of wisdom…

Amen to that.

. – . – . – .

Satisfying a random craving…

I’m not really big on pasta, but I do crave it occasionally, and today was one of those days. Nothing fancy, just some noodles mixed with butter, nutritional yeast, and parmesan cheese, a glob of hummus, a devilled egg, and some brocolli roasted in olive oil and mixed with pasta sauce. Mmmm. Hit the spot.

. – . – . – .

Hearing about what makes other people smile…

Seeing people smile makes me smile… so spill the beans!

What made you happy today?

Woohoo for Mondays! I definitely like having my routine as everything seems so slowed down at the weekends which I find hard when I’m a girl who likes to be on the go and occupied!
Oh and mini things definitely make me happy! They’re just so cute hehe 🙂 And I definitely fed my addiction too 😛
Honestly, reading your blog every morning makes me really happy! 🙂 Alsooo there was a special package that came to me today that made me really really really happy….teehee!

Mmmmm hummusy pasta! OMG I want some Opi nail polish so bad but it’s not the cheapest of nail polishes. I’m going to have to save my little pennies…I mean cents.

What made me happy today? Filling out my time sheet at work. I’m owed some monies!!! XD

Every time I see soy pudding now I think of your breakfasts. I’ve come thisclose to buying some but I’m cheap and they’re…not really. Next time they’re on sale I just might have to though, your oat bowls just make it way too tempting.

And my smoothie are out of the bullet 95% of the time. I don’t need it in a pretty cup for it to taste good.

I’ve been dropping mucho dough on clothing lately and THAT is making me happy. I usually go pretty long spurts between large shopping sprees but sometimes a little retail therapy does wonders. As does buying fresh melon. Buying and cutting into the first cantaloupe I’ve had in a couple weeks now made ME smile tonight. Yum.

Do you work? Also, do you ever eat out or let others prepare your foods? I’m still struggling with this and also have major anxiety over starting a job.

I do work and eat out, yes. It was a big struggle at first, but like with everything else, you just have to push yourself to do it and see that there’s really nothing to be afraid of. It’s not so bad. Promise 😀

I love the idea of making you post workout shake before working out!! That would be so convenient because I’m so hungry after i workout. The other mini thing that makes life so awesome that you can’t forget about is mini desserts. They are the cutest things in the world.

Today I smiled because out of no where I thought of someones facebook status that said “How drunk was mr. krabs when he decided to sleep with a whale?” (spongebob if you didn’t know..) and I shared that with my mom so we started cracking up. It was quite the mother daughter moment.

I totally have an unhealthy obsession with miniature things as well…spoons, forks, dishes, pots & pans…the list goes on and on. My friends love to call my family the family of midgets because so much in our kitchen is tiny!

And I completely agree with you about Mondays. It definitely feels like an exciting fresh start. Motivational Mondays I like to call them 🙂

Loving the picture of the knife in the fruit. HAHA! I took a similar one of Frank the tomato getting cut up for lunch today. I feel like a cannibal! Oopsie.

I used to dread Mondays — mostly because I was not happy about going to work. But, I’ve made the choice of being positive and enjoying my work (as much as I can) and now I look forward to getting back the routine of the week!

I also make my protein shake before my workout — sometimes I throw it back on the Magic Bullet to whip it back to smoothness, but it is so much easier than making a shake while I’m all sweaty.

That I got some nice comments regarding a blog post I recently posted and was beyond terrified to post.

That I still have three days left of a visit from my brother.

That I went for the most gorgeous walk by myself this evening and absolutely loved the feeling of being alone in my thoughts.

I love Mondays too–the weekends make me anxious because I don’t have the usual routine.

I decided to buy Tribe hummus after your raves about it (and because it was on sale at the grocery store). I have to say, it’s probably the best hummus I’ve had (maybe with the exception of Whole Foods, which I just adore). Next I’ll have to get myself some of that pudding 🙂

It’s definitely a smile-worthy Monday. What makes me think so?

    -A productive day at work.
-Going to a job that I love every day.
-A long walk in the sunshine after work.
-Overnight oats not once but TWICE! (Breakfast and dinner)
-The fact that my parents’ kitchen is getting redone this week, which is pretty exciting.
-Coming home to a spotless house (my ‘rents have a cleaning lady, lucky ducks).
-My sister’s first day of her first job was today! It sounds like she had a great time.

    Overall, not too shabby 🙂
