peaches and cream protein smoothie

August 15, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 59 Comments

A thick and creamy peach smoothie that boasts a whopping 15g of protein without the use of any powders!

Summer is slowly coming to a close, and it’s hard to decide what I’ll miss more — the warm weather or the abundance of fresh fruit. Actually, scratch that — it’s not even a contest.

If you’ve been reading Spoons for any amount of time, then you might know that I’m not a huge fan of the heat… or at least my body isn’t. Not only do I get crankier and lazier as the mercury rises, but I also break out in random heat rashes that make me look like I’m suffering from some kind of exotic disease. Super cute.

Fortunately, I live in a place where summer is on the shorter and milder side, so I don’t have to deal with anything too extreme. Unfortunately, this also means that I have to put up with roughly 6 months of winter, but somehow that seems a little bit more manageable (ask me again in 4 months and I might be singing a different tune).

Tangents aside, while I don’t necessarily love the heat of summer, I do love the fresh fruit… and when left to my own devices, I can easily eat my weight in blueberries, strawberries, grapes, watermelon, and peaches…

Perfect Summer Peaches. So juicy. So sweet. So... unghhhh! || runningwithspoons.com

Ohhhhhh peaches. You guys… I’m crushing on them big time right now and I really hope you are too because they’re the epitome of perfection at this time of the year. So sweet. So juicy. So… ungh. My only complaint is that our encounters usually leave me looking a little worse-for-wear, with peach juice dribbling down my chin and oftentimes staining my shirt without me realizing it until the end of the day. Class all the way.

Thankfully, I’ve managed to come up with a way to get my peach fix while simultaneously maintaining my dignity — the oh-so-reliable smoothie.

That right there, friends, is what I like to call a Peaches and Cream Protein Smoothie. Peaches because… well… that’s what it’s made of and what gives it it’s delicious peachy flavour. Cream because it becomes soooooo luxuriously creamy thanks to the magic of canned coconut milk. Protein because it boasts a whopping 15g of protein without the use of protein powders. And Smoothie because… well… everything is tossed into a blender and pulverized until smooth 😀

Peaches 'n' Cream Protein Smoothie -- thick, creamy, and boasting a whopping 15g of protein without the use of any powders! || runningwithspoons.com #peaches #protein #smoothie

This smoothie makes a perfect high-protein breakfast or post-workout snack. Heck, it makes a perfect anytime-you’re-craving-peaches snack. It’s cool, creamy, subtly sweet, and has the most wonderfully refreshing touch of tang. Oh! And the best part is that it’s quick and easy, requires virtually no clean up, and can be prepped in advance and ready when you need it. Yup! You know how you usually need to drink a smoothie right away to prevent it from separating and getting all weird? Not so with this baby! In fact, the longer you let it sit in the fridge, the thicker and creamier it becomes — perfect for when you need a quick grab-n-go breakfast in the morning or a peach/protein fix right.this.very.second.

Oh my this looks heavenly- love the addition of coconut milk, Amanda! I’ve been drinking the same smoothie combo for the past month:

Almond milk with a frozen banana, Sunwarrior vanilla, peanut butter & cinnamon…with cereal on top for some crunch! I’m still hooked on it but this peaches & cream smoothie sounds divine enough to put that on the backburner temporarily!

My current obsession is watermelon! I will go to the store and buy 2-3 at a time–I just can’t seem to get enough of them! Berries are another summer favorite. Ugh, I don’t want summer to end. I’m loving your peach smoothie. It’s hard to believe I haven’t had any peaches these season…that needs to change ASAP! Also, that chocolate mousse smoothie looks divine! I will also be making that.

I know exactly what you mean about the watermelons — I can easily polish off a giant one within the span of a couple days… and then have to deal with the melon baby that inevitable follows 😆

I am super pleased you made a high protein smoothie without the use of powders. 🙂

I had my first peach of the season this week. It was magical and messy, so much so I ate it over the kitchen sink.

We’ve been hitting peaches and watermelon pretty hard over here. Thankfully, I live in a household of fruit lovers so we have fruit out the wazoo! My personal favorite of summer is apricots <3 And I'd imagine this smoothie would be extra delicious with a hint of Malibu rum ;o)

Peaches and cream reminds me of that dirty song…maybe it was just in Australia. I feel like everyone in the northern hemisphere is on a similar ingredient wavelength for a week then changes to the next- damn Australia not matching up seasons. This looks delicious and I need to try coconut milk in smoothies- I randomly love the layer of coconut cream on top of cans. Is that bad? Nope.

Yummm! I don’t make smoothies with peaches often (read: ever) and I don’t know why – I really should!

Lately I’m loving blueberries and raspberries from the farmers market. I’m trying to eat as many as possible before their season is done and I have to go back to buying those sour imported berries. 😛

yesssss peaches are legitimately one of my favorite fruits. I grew up wroth my daddy having peach trees, which means I’m pretty much spoiled and super picky when it comes to peaches now. I refuse to buy grocery store peaches since most are so hard and tiny, but farmers markets peaches? I buy em all!!

This looks absolutely mouth-watering! Confession time, though. I’ve never had a peach before! Shocker! I grew up in a pretty guarded dietary household, so I’m always finding new delicacies to try out – and this smoothie is an awesome motivator!

By the way, I just started using canned coconut milk in my smoothies and it is INSANELY delicious! It makes it sooooo creamy and tastes more like ice cream than a smoothie! YUM!

This sounds amazing and so refreshing! Firstly, I love that it’s so thick – you know I’m a fan of eating my smoothies with a spoon! Secondly, I love peaches! My dad has a few peach trees and will be giving me some tomorrow, so I’m totally making this. And finally, I love that it has so much protein without using protein powder. This would definitely make a perfect breakfast!

Peaches currently hold a very important place in my personal favored fruit hierarchy. Followed by apples.

However, when it’s smoothie time, I keep it simple: banana, almond milk, spinach, ice.
