. just your average day .

August 22, 2011 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 95 Comments

Hello, hello and happy Monday!

To be honest, I had absolutely no idea what to write about today. Not a clue. I wasn’t struck by any epiphanies, I didn’t feel like being creative in the kitchen, and the most out-of-place thing that happened was that I slept in until 6:30 and somehow managed to snap a picture of the clock at the exact second that it was changing from 6:50 to 6:51 when I started cooking my breakfast an hour later than usual…

Weird 😯 Other than that, it was just the same old, same old.

I started the day with breakfast…

You know the drill. Oats. Eggs. Bananas. Almond butter. Pudding. Breakfast.

. – . – . – .

I worked…

Paperwork = Hate Very much dislike.

. – . – . – .

I worked out…

[15 minute treadmill intervals to warm up followed by 45 minutes weights/abs via NROLFW]

. – . – . – .

I broke for lunch…

[Protein shake, yogurt mess with cereal and trail mix, salad beast]

. – . – . – .

I worked some more…

The only key I wanted to hit on that keyboard was the Zzzzzzz…

. – . – . – .

The postman subtly reminded me that it’s been far too long since I’ve been to Ikea and that I should probably go in and re-acquaint myself with their stock since I need new furniture anyway…

Ob.sessed.

. – . – . – .

I took my girl to the vet for her follow-up…

She knows what’s coming…

Look left. Look right.

No one’s looking! Quick! Hide!

. – . – . – .

I celebrated health (hers and mine) with more ice cream…

It’s official. I’m addicted. No interventions please.

. – . – . – .

I started re-reading a favorite book for probably the 11th time because I ran out of new ones and promised myself I wouldn’t buy anymore until after I move (which, to be honest, isn’t going to happen)…

I first read this book for my English 101 class, and fell in love.

. – . – . – .

I got all excited that tomorrow is August 23rd because it means that the newest Gossip Girl season is coming out on DVD, and I’ll have something to keep me occupied Β for at least a few of the next 23 days until my moveΒ (EeeeEEEEeeeE)…

One of the only shows that I watch regularly on the tee-vee.

. – . – . – .

I thought about packing, but ultimately decided against it (again)…

Probably not my smartest idea… the days are counting down!

. – . – . – .

I got my zen on instead…

I went from thoughts of “ommmmn” to thoughts of “nommmm” and knew it was dinner time.

. – . – . – .

I made dinner…

Pumpkin chili Mexican scrambleΒ topped with avocado, salsa, and cottage cheese.

. – . – . – .

I went shopping for a friend…

I have a friend that’s going through a rough patch, and figured she could use a little love.

. – . – . – .

I found the cutest container for my unused avocado halves…

It’s goofy things like this that make me smile.

. – . – . – .

And I’ll probably finish the night with some blog reading and snacking…

Oat bran mixed with applesauce, alongside Greek yogurt, flaxmeal, maple syrup, and cinnamon.

. – . – . – .

So that’s it. Just your average day. No glitz. No glamour. No fireworks. There are times when I look at days like today and think to myself “Huh.Β My life is kind of boring“, but I’m honestly happy with the way things are right now. I used to be really big on the whole party scene, and I’d be out atΒ bars, clubs, and parties pretty much 7 days a week, but it got old, and although I have plenty of good memories from those days, it’s not really the kind of lifestyle that I’d like to return to.

And then there’s the whole moving thing. Right now, I feel like I’m in some sort of a limbo where I’m really just waiting for life to begin once I move into my new place; like I’m holding my breath and just… waiting. It’s frustrating, but at least I only have 3 more weeks of it to go πŸ˜€

. – . – . – .

Do you ever feel like everyone else is leading a much more interesting life than you are?Β I do sometimes, but then I remember to keep in mind that you don’t usually get to see the boring and mundane parts of most people’s days, so the picture you get of their lives isn’t entirely accurate.

Ice cream: in a cone or in a cup?

Gah, my life seems so boring and monotenous right now, I just want uni to start. Though I know that wi bring stress! At least ill have a lot to focus on.
I tend to go with cup because im a clutz and dont want to risk spilling my beloved icecream.
BUT, waffe cones rock, and are amazing.
Ikea is also rocks, and has great frozen yogurt too! For 99 cents, have you tried it?

    Hahahaah ‘ommm’ to ‘nommm’!!
Gossip girl!!! yesss, im so excited. Goodbye doing assignments, Hello GG!
My boyfriend suggested last night I should buy an ‘avocado saver’. I actually think they would be really handy.

    Icecream.. in either.
Cones are so yummy and crunchy, but then I love getting to the end of an icecream in a bowl and its half melted. Maybe I can find a happy medium of having an icecream in a cone, turning it on its head and sticking it in a bowl?

I like your day!! It might be average, but it is filled with so many of life`s joys: Your pretty dog, yum foods, Gossip Girl (looove that show) and a workout! I love the days I dont have anything planned and i can just relax and do “boring” things!

    1. Made pudding last night. Had it in my oats this morning. I think you’re on to something!! It will definately be making a reappearance… maybe like.. every day. πŸ™‚

    2. In a way, I do feel like everyone is leading a more exciting life than I am. I don’t really hang out with friends that much. Mostly I spend time with my boyfriend, my parents, and my dog and cats! BUT, I know that I am doing what makes me happy. I used to be one of those people that partied allll the time, but I realized that the people I was partying with weren’t really my friends. I was just someone else to party with to them. And I wasn’t happy with that. Not to mention that wasn’t the “healthiest” habit. ANYWHO, I am happy with my life, exciting or not. πŸ™‚

And ice cream ANY way. Cone, dish, cup, in my hands! Haha

Oh my gosh, I just discovered IKEA and I love it! They just built one in a city near me and I went on the opening day (which was also my birthday) and I ended up getting two really cool lamps and a little pink caddy because the store gave me a gift card since it was my birthday πŸ™‚

There are some days that my life does seem boring to me, but honestly, I’d rather not be out partying or anything like most of the people in college do. I’d rather just hang out and do yoga, or catch up on TV or enjoy being outside. As long as I’m enjoying it, I don’t care if my life is boring by others’ standards!

This day looks near ideal to me! I’ve always led a relatively ‘boring’ life by normal standards. I’m going into my third year in college and I don’t think I’ve ever gone out 2 weekends in a row, let alone 2 days in a row! Part of me wonders whether or not I would be happier as a part of the party scene, but when it comes down to it, I can’t force myself to have fun – it wouldn’t work. I’ve never been a really social person, even though I do love to go exploring and do fun things. But I would be perfectly happy with a a day that consisted of a workout, some cooking, a trip to the store, coffee, wandering and lounging.

IKEA! Love it. It’s been far too long since I’ve been there too. I’m a little jealous that you are soon going to have a whole place to yourself that you can Ikeafy. I need a good excuse to load up on Ikea goods.

I’m glad to hear that book gets your stamp of approval. I’ve had it sitting on my shelf for a couple years now but STILL haven’t gotten around to reading it (I need to make leisure reading a much bigger priority!). That one might have to get bumped up in the line.

LOVE that pandora charm (you’re such a sweet friend). AND the avocado “box”, that’s genius!

I think most people are leading much more “boring” lives than we think. People don’t talk about or show off (ehemfacebookstalking?) their everyday routines. They gab about the good stuff. Which likely makes up a small percentage of most people’s daily lives. But all those simple, routine days can be pretty awesome too. I like simplicity sometimes. Okay, often πŸ™‚

Ice cream = cone. Though I’ll admit I order it more often in a cup. Easier to eat I guess? Cones are way more fun though.

I ALWAYS feel like people have more of an exciting life because I’ve put myself into a state of isolation for so long. Eeeek. But oh wellz, I mean… I am pretty grandma cause I got to bed early and wake up early to watch Regis and Kelly. Haha!

I think I like ice cream better in a cup because I love toppings and when it’s on a cone, the sprinkles run down when the ice cream melts. Boo.

So sweet of you to buy a Pandora charm for your friend during her struggle. You’re such a beautiful person <3

I used to feel like that very often until my recent coming to Christ. It might sound really cliche and may not make much sense– but by feeling like I actually have something larger than life to live for has made me want to make strides and help others in ways that I couldn't even fathom before,

    And cone, 100%. πŸ˜‰

Oh my gosh do I feel that way. Sometimes I spend my day grocery shopping, working on artwork for classes, napping, yoga-ing, etc. I don’t really interact with anyone on a deep level and nothing ‘interesting’ happens, but I always end the day content. I can’t do that too often, though. I need interaction! I feed off the energy of the city and the people. But even when I’m out and about gettin’ my ‘energy’ on, I don’t necessarily do anything eventful. School is boring.

Wake up. Class. Lunch. Class. Class. Nap. Class. Work on perfecting projects (that will ultimately never meet my perfectionist standards) all other moments. HAHA!

Cup all the way! No drips for me, please!

I’m so excited for you! Can’t wait to see your new place. And OHMIGOOSSHHH do I love IKEA. It’s sort-of bad for me to go, though.

‘Oh, this is too cheap and adorable NOT to buy!’

    -20 items later-

    ‘Ehhhrrmmmm…..’

    HAHA!

And I do love avocado, but I only have it when I go out to eat. I don’t eat enough of it to keep it from going bad! That little container is brilliant!

I love average days. I don’t think I appreciate them enough when I have them, because when my life starts to get really exciting and busy, I really wish that I could just chill and go through the normal motions, ya know? It’s comforting! By the way, I love that book so much — I would love to read it again. I’ve tried to convince my mom to read it so many times so maybe I need to lead by example. I read it in freshman year of high school and it may have been the only book I enjoyed that year!

I almost always feel like everybody is leading a much more interesting life than me. I am supposed to be having the best time of my life right now, living 10 000 km away from home but it is just not happening. I have to ask some of the other international students about the secret of actually enjoying this experience because I am clueless. But sometimes it is good to have a calm eventless day to recharge your batteries.

On a stick, in a cone or straight from the box – it doesn’t matter at all. It is the taste that matters and if the ice cream is good, it will still be good even if you eat it from Π° saucepan.

That’s so awesome you got the clock at that exact moment in time! Such a small instant that you can’t even see it with the human eye, but the camera caught it…unbelievable. I sometimes think that my life is uber boring but then I realize I’m happy with my day to day life and there are always little things that happen that surprise me or make me smile.

That waiting period for moving must be frustrating. When I have to wait for something I always keep telling myself “don’t think too much about it” because I’m worried that I will just be setting myself up for disappointment.

I love ikea, and remember as a kid me and my sister would spend hours looking through the catalogue and choosing what we would have in our house when we grow up…good memories πŸ™‚

Cup all the way. I really am not a fan of cones, I dislike the crunch, and I find that the ice cream makes them mushy, bleh… which is one of the reasons I can’t even eat my cereal with milk, have to have the cereal in a bowl, and a glass of milk on the side (I should have answered that the day the question was about weird eating habits, because that is definitely a weird one… and I still eat the dry cereal with a baby spoon errr…)

Some definitely lead a more interesting life than me… but then I remember small things like I work in the film industry (and that is definitely interesting), or I get to travel to new cities once in a while because of work (currently in Montreal), and because my job isn’t always the most steady I get to travel (going to Korea in a month) … which are all very interesting, interesting depends on what the person thinks. I like reading books, and relaxing on the weekends where people may find that boring but I find it fun. It’s all in the eye of the beholder πŸ˜‰

For real! It looks like soft serve from a machine. Is there a food you cannot make look absolutely incredible? You have mad food stylin skills.
