. counting down until… .

December 28, 2012 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 61 Comments

Remember how I said I was happy to be getting back into a normal routine? I lied… I want time off again! For whatever reason, yesterday just draaaaaagged – I’d look at the clock expecting an hour to have gone by, and it had only been 15 minutes. Bah! At least it’s Friday. Ooooo and speaking of which, today officially marks the start of… well… I’m going to build up the suspense and reveal it countdown style…

Ten – apples used in the applesauce I made yesterday.

Homemade Applesauce

Nine – times I almost fell asleep watching The Hobbit (rough approximation). I was actually really disappointed with this one. I loved the book and was hoping that Jackson would do a good job with the movie, since he did with Lord of the Rings; but this movie was too dragged out, lacked the epic feel that LOTR had, and had a whole bunch of things added to it that weren’t in the book. I’m glad I saw it, but it’s not a movie I’ll be watching again.

Eight – hours of work to get through before the weekend.

Stack of Files

Seven – months that it’ll probably take me to finish the new puzzle I bought… if I even finish at all. I actually love puzzles, but after an initial burst of enthusiasm, I tend to lose interest for a while. We’ll see how this one goes.

Orchestra Puzzle

Six – hours of sleep last night. I think it’s my magic number.

Five – minutes it took me to throw breakfast together.

5 Minute Cereal

Four – days left until 2013. What.the.heck? 😯 I think I should start thinking up some resolutions.

Three – bananas eaten over the course of yesterday. I may turn into a monkey.

Fat-Free Banana

Two – cookies are better than one, obviously…

Christmas Cookies

One – week until my birthday 😀

Yesssss. Today officially marks the start of birthday week for me! Next Friday, January 4th, I’ll be blowing out 28 candles and stuffing my face with enjoying a slice of cake. I’m not honestly sure how I’m going to go about celebrating birthday week, but I’m thinking of doing something special for myself each day – nothing big, but things like getting my nails done or going out to grab a cupcake. It’s all about the little things, right? 😀

. – . – . – . – .

When’s your birthday? Do you celebrate birthday week?
What’s your favorite birthday cake?
 I need some ideas!
And… do you like puzzles?

I love the idea of doing something special for yourself every day of your birthday week. I’m not a big birthday person, hate all the attention on myself, but an excuse to splurge on mani/pedis and some good food, um YES.

and you just inspired me to make homemade applesauce 🙂

YEAHHH HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEEK! Love your idea of doing something special for yourself each week until then, I can’t say I’ve ever celebrated birthday week before! Mine’s the first week of May, which meant all through college I celebrated by…..taking final exams lol. :-/. I think my fave cake would have to be hummingbird spice – it’s like carrot cake but with bananas, pineapple, nutmeg, and cinnamon. and cream cheese frosting (piled high!) is a MUST!

    You are so amazing
I binged again. I’ll pay for this tommorow. And fierce snowstorms. Binging + stuck inside literally 24-7 = ..sad .very sad. And bloated and worse. 🙁

Amanda, do you find coffee can help “move” things along? Cause I can’t “move” things along….and THAT with the above factors = horrible.
And if so, what KIND of coffee (easy method..not percolator…but ‘instant” would be good …something just to mix with water?). Decaf? (I think decaf would be better. And what to put in it. I wonder if I had that first thing in morning maybe I could “go”…or maybe I should stop binging on 100 grams of chocolate 7 nights a week 🙁
    Oh my. Sorry.

I go through phases where I become obsessed with doing puzzles…I’ll get it all set up and spend hours watching movies and working on my puzzle (embarrassingly dorky, I know!) Then I’ll go a year or two and never touch a puzzle. I haven’t done one in about two years, but my sister got some for christmas and I might get sucked in.
My birthday is in October. My favorite birthday cake is my grandma’s special chocolate cake! I’m not a big chocolate fan, but this one is super delicious, it has coffee in it which really richens the flavor. Although I think if my birthday were this time of year I might opt for a carrot cake!
Hope you have a festive birthday week!

You know what? A chocolate cake with coffee sounds perfect. I’m kind of ashamed to admit it, but as a bigtime lover of both, I’ve never had the combination in cake form.

Bahaha I’m the same way with puzzles! I get all excited and motivated when I first buy them, but then I quickly lose the enthusiasm and push it aside…indefinitely. Oh well. And damn girl, only 6 hours of sleep? I would be a walking zombie and a grinch. I’m sad to admit I need about 8 hours 🙁

Sorry to hear that The Hobbit was boring! I haven’t read the book yet so I’m not planning on seeing the movie anytime soon, but it’s still disappointing to hear considering how amazing the Lord of the Rings movies all were!

And let the birthday celebrations begin!!

Happy birthday week, Amanda! Love the idea of doing something special each day till the 4th! My 2 best cakes were on my 21st & 23rd birthday
-Chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake- think choc chip cookie base with chunks of cookie dough swirled into the cream cheese

-Baskin Robbins ice cream: choc cake with layers of coffee and cookies ‘n’ cream ice cream

Ok I need to go find some cake NOW! Have a great weekend!

I saw The Hobbit this week too. I liked it, but definitely not as much as the LOTR movies. But that might be because I liked the LOTR books better than The Hobbit book. Seeing it reminded me how much I miss those movies though!

I have a summer birthday, July, and it’s always SO hot so I always ask for ice cream cake. Mint chocolate chip or cookie dough. Or any ice cream to be honest. My favorite 🙂
I went through a puzzle phase this summer with my sister for about a week where we were so into it…then we lost interest. Almost as fast as we became interested. I guess it just happens. Haha

It was 🙁 I was kind of afraid of seeing it after reading all the bad reviews, but I had been hoping The Hobbit would become a movie ever since the first LOTR came out, so I kind of had to see it. There’s still one more half, though, so maybe he’ll save it…

I was disappointed with the hobbit too, it made me sad. I thought it was technically well done, but it was just too drawn out. Too many dwarves, too many battle scenes, too many orcs getting their heads cut off. And there weren’t even any hot elves to compensate! (Note to self: Make Amanda’s apple sauce already!)

Havourite birthday cake… When I was a child I used to like just “a birthday cake, it only should be sweet!”. Now I think that banana bread or something like that would be breat :3 But I just like quite healthy cakes, like chocolate bean cake or chocolate zucchini cake… Quite tasty ones but maybe it’s not good enough for birthday. ^^’

Now ever since I have been working I always take that week off. I don’t do anything big, but I enjoy relaxing all week and not working on my birthday. And the week always concludes with the oscars which I love. I don’t care about missing Christmas and other holidays that I work, but my birthday will always be my day. I will be 38 this year.

Birthday week? Sounds like a great concept to me! Mine’s on January 29th so I might have to start thinking up ideas on how to spend it, too.

Ler me know if you come up with a cake idea … As Christmas went better than last year I’m hoping to make my next birthday a better one than the last, too. So no calorie-counting and enjoying a real cake not some super-healthified treat – not that I didn’t like them but I want to go all out on my special day.

Puzzles!!! Thanks for giving me that idea. I’m spending the remainder of Christmas break at home and am alone today as my parents are working. You just solved my problem of not having anything to do.
