. cabin fever, a teaser, and thinking out loud .

December 9, 2013 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 95 Comments

Howdy-ho readerinos!

I realize this may not be a very popular opinion, but I am so over the weekend — TGIM(onday)! Why? A serious case of cabin fever! The past 3 days have been ridiculously cold around these parts, and nothing could convince me to leave the comfort of my warm home to risk freezing to death outside.

Inside Looking Out

Okay, that’s not entirely true… I did manage to make it out of the house to go Christmas shopping on Friday night (note to self: never do this again), grocery shopping on Saturday morning (I ran out of toothpaste), and over to my parents’ to decorate on Sunday night, but other than that, my weekend looked a whole lot like this…

Working At The Table

Let’s take a moment to analyze the scene, shall we? We have the laptop for blog maintenance, blogging, and general procrastination. The iPad and notes for studying. Christmas cards for writing. Tea for defrosting. And snacks for… well… snacking. Holy.wow, you guys… I’m not sure if it was the cold weather, the computer/school work, or a little bit of both, but I was an absolute bottomless pit this weekend. I’m talking finishing one meal only to be picking away at something else a mere 20 minutes later — I was basically eating all.day(s).long — and that’s not even close to being an exaggeration.

Being within 5 feet of my kitchen for most of the weekend probably didn’t help my case much, and I don’t imagine that these did either…

Chocolate Gingerbread Bars

Chocolate gingerbread bars. Swooooon. I was planning on sharing the recipe with you guys today, but you know how I mentioned the whole bottomless pit thing? Yeaaaaah. I polished off too many bars in the taste-testing phase, and there wasn’t enough food/daylight left to have a proper photo shoot when I finally decided they were share-worthy 😕 But don’t worry — I’ll be baking up another batch today and hopefully sharing it tomorrow.

Other than that, I really don’t have a whole lot more to share with you guys. It was cold. I basically became a shut-in. I studied. I gave myself a massive headache from spending far too much time working with code. I baked. I ate. I watched old school James Bond movies (random). Aaaaaand I came down with a serious case of cabin fever.

Thankfully, it’s currently a balmy -5ºC (23ºF), so you’d better believe that I’ll be out the door as soon as I finish writing this post. Well, okay… I need to eat breakfast, brush my teeth, tame my mane, and wait for the world to actually wake up, but after that? Poof… I’m gone.

Oh! One more thing before I go. Remember how I mentioned the possibility of starting a Thinking Out Loud linkup on Thursdays? A lot of you thought it’d be a great idea, so we’re giving it a go and taking it for a test drive this Thursday.

Thinking-Out-Loud

The deets:

  • Write a post full of random thoughts, pictures, and musings. Have fun! Don’t be too serious! Write whatever pops into your head — just let your stream of consciousness flow freely.
  • Grab the button up there ^^
  • Come back on Thursday and add your link to the linkup so we can all see what’s on your mind.

That’s all! I’m keeping things pretty basic for now just to test the waters, but I may add a question/task/theme in the future. For now, I just wanna  see the randomness you guys are thinking about, so I hope you’ll join in!

Happy Monday, friends! Kick some serious butt this week! 😀

I’m pretty sure this weekend will be all about cabin fever, and I’m super excited about it. One, my man will be back, two, we’re decorating and three, I’m so overworked right now, I just want to do nothing. Absolutely, blissfully nothing. Well except maybe catch up on some of my favorite blogs. Or maybe play with some code. Alright, not the last part because I did enough of that last night. Who knew switching themes would have such an impact. Oh well.
By the way, I totally caught this reference…one of my favorite movies: Poof… I’m gone.

You know I cannot even begin to relate to the type of cold you get, I am freezing my butt off with 40 degree (Fahrenheit, you also know I can’t convert to Celsius very well ;-)) and I also can’t relate to cabin fever as I have to get out to class every day, but I am loving the coziness of the holiday season.

I’m not sure if I will be able to partake this Thurs because I pretty much have this week in posts planned out but I’m so glad you’re doing the link up ! I know I’ll partake eventually.
Holy those choc gingerbread bars look so good!

I am so done with the deep freeze already! I guess the one good thing about super cold weather is that it makes the plain old cold days seem warm :).
Being a bottomless pit is just our bodies way of trying to stay alive when it is like the arctic!

Can’t wait to join in on Thursdays once the semester is done next week! It is freezing in my town right now. High for today? 5 degrees F, with a balmy windchill of about -10? It is suppose to “warm up” this weekend to, single digits; I’m talking around 10 or so? Brrrr.

I tend to be a bottomless pit during winter too. I crave comfort food more and am inside more than usual. I try not to keep sweets around because I will seriously finish them off in a day- it’s bad. So excited about the link- up! I’ve already got at least 10 random thoughts floating through my head as we speak! 🙂

You know you live in Canada when you describe -5 degrees Celsius as “balmy” hahaha. 😛 I’m glad it’s warmed up a bit for you though!

Oh my goodness those chocolate gingerbread bars look amazing! I totally hear you on eating them all though. The worst is when I make a recipe I want to photograph, only to have dark cloudy weather for the next 3 days making it hard to photograph it. I definitely always have to remake the recipe in that case because it always gets eaten first haha.

    Happy Tuesday girl! 🙂

Hmmmm I’ve always wanted to live somewhere with all 4 seasons but now I’m not so sure, lol 0_0″ But at least you got a lot of stuff done, right?! Also, I too find it strange that when we’re home it’s so much easier to eat constantly…..I wonder if it’s all mental or really a physical need!

Yeahhh… I like snow around Christmas, but I’m fine with it being gone at pretty much every other time of the year. And I think there’s definitely a mental aspect to it — it’s boring at home!

I think you are entering hibernation so your body is telling you to stock up! 😉
I would have a hard time resisting those chocolate gingerbread bars too. They look amazing, can’t wait for the recipe! I’m also excited to see all of the Thinking Out Loud link ups. I think it will be a popular one.

I’ve been going nuts with sitting inside due to the cold, snowy weather too. So boring!! When I’m not working I’m living in my slippers, sweat pants & a hoody. lol I’m w/ya on the bottomless pit too… maybe it’s the cold weather?
The new link-up sounds like fun! 🙂

It’s probably the cold weather – I always have increased appetite in the winter and decreased appetite in the summer!

Winter is totally the season for hibernating! It’s great, but it does take its toll!
I’m psyched about the link up on Thursday!

I could NOT stop eating yesterday either! I don’t know if it was a combination of boredom, cabin fever & slight hunger, but as soon as I’d finished eating, I’d start eating again. I was surprised when I actually woke up hungry, too!

I’m excited for Thinking Out Loud, especially because all of my posts are super random.

I love how drastically one’s perspective on weather can change from summer to winter. In the summer 20 feels chilly, in the winter -5 feels balmy. The magic of seasons.

Every since starting my new job I actually really enjoy Mondays. It’s practically a TGIM every week, although I still do look forward to the weekends. Gingerbread and chocolate sound like a great combination. I am looking forward to the recipe!

I’m actually with you on the weekend thing! I’m the WORST when it comes to cabin fever – I really only like the *occasional* at home day. I get antsy/bored far too easily. Though now I’m in my exam studying period, which means lots of at-home/snack ALL DAY time. 😉

    Hope you’re staying warm 🙂
There’s something about getting cozy at home when it’s freezing out, but I can see how too much of that can lead to some serious cabin fever!

No joke I saw that brownie like dessert picture before I hit the hay….worst idea ever. I’m banning myself from instagram.

Oh I HATE cabin fever…working from home + studying at home + bad weather = time to go gaga.

Looking forward to the link up- I love your random thoughts (and always am perplexed with how you find half those facts….).
