. as we speak… in the mountains .

January 13, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 125 Comments

Happy Monday, friends!

I’m not quite ready for this week to begin, but ready or not, here it comes. The weekend went by way too quickly and I’m still feeling a bit groggy from it, so we’re going to forgo fancy intros and proper sentence structure and recap the past couple of days selfie As We Speak style…

As we speak, I’m… not quite ready to speak. It’s 6 AM; I’ve been up since 4; I haven’t had my coffee; and we’re on the road with no java stops in sight…

Don't Talk To Me

As we speak, I’m… taking pleasure in some one-on-one time with my coffee and would prefer not to be interrupted…

Starbucks Moment

Enjoy the scenery instead…

Banff Scenery2

Banff Scenery

Banff Scenery 3

… especially since things got ugly fast. Gotta love those winter snowstorms!

Winter Road Conditions

As we speak, I’m… gearing up for a day on the slopes and looking rather antisocial, but actually very happy to be out of the car after a very trying 5-hour drive.

Getting Ready to Board

As we speak, I’m… thinking about how awkward I feel when I pose for pictures. Also… the snow. It was ridiculous. The visibility was so bad in some parts of the mountain that it was basically like riding blind.

Posing In Lake Louise

As we speak, I’m… taking selfies while snowboarding, even though you can hardly tell it’s me under all that gear… which is unfortunate because I put it on to protect my face from the cold, but I ended up getting wind burn anyways. I spent a few days sporting a lovely lobster glow.

Snowboarding Selfies

Winter Boarding

Ninja Boarding

As we speak, I’m… winning! And the competition was pretty stiff, too. Get it? Ice statues? Stiff? 😉

First Place Boarding

As we speak, I’m… sneakily pretending not to take a selfie on the way back to town…

Sneaky Selfie

… while sneaking some snacks…

Sneaking Snacks

As we speak, I’m… not so sneakily taking a selfie in the hotel bathroom…

Hotel Room Selfie

… before heading out for a night around Banff, which was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday.

Banff Night Life

As we speak, I’m… awake before the crack of dawn, enjoying the relaxing ambiance of snoring roommates…

Snoring Roomie Face

… and thinking it wouldn’t be a bad idea to give my bangs a trim…

Trim Those Bangs

As we speak, I’m… having yet another moment with my coffee, made more enjoyable by the fact that I’m not sitting in a car and driving through a snowstorm.

Moment with Coffee

As we speak, I’m… out and about in Banff [with my coffee]… [and hat].

Out In Banff

We opted out of spending another day on the slopes and explored Banff instead. I would have preferred to do some more boarding, but I was overruled 😡 At least it was pretty…

Banff Forest

Bow River Falls

Bow River

As we speak, I’m… on my way back home and looking deceptively cheery considering how badly I have to pee. Dang road trips.

Have To Go Face

But at least it was pretty…

Sun Over Mountains

And that’s that. Hope your week is off to a great start!

So pretty! But it looks so cold 🙂

I AM ready for Monday… for once. Things are going smoothly! I do coffee or tea every morning. Lately, It’s been mostly tea. Although I did have both this morning. Haha oops!

Hope you have a fab day!

I’m not a fan of snow or the cold but the pictures you have of the mountains are stunning. I’m glad you were able to enjoy some snowboarding even though your face got wind burned through all that gear. I know I would be so bundled up I probably wouldn’t be able to move.

The scenery looks incredible! My Boyfriend trained to be a boarding instructor on his “gap yahhhh” and says we have to go. I really want to try it but I think I would spend most of the time falling over? I am no graceful ballerina… My Dad used to say I was like an elephant… Anyway – I love coffee but I can’t drink it anymore – sends me nuts!

I actually not big fan of coffee. I really tried to drink it few years ago (in sweet 16 ;)), but I needed so much milk and sugar to muffle bitter smack… Simply not for me. I perfectly manage tea. Though really awakes me only a breakfast 😉

Those pictures look amazing. I am not even human without coffee or some sort of caffeine in the morning. When I do my morning gym sessions a few times a week I look like a zombie walking in, and usually have coffee in my water bottle, (no joke).

Do we really need to discuss how I handle a morning without coffee? I think it is safe to say that my morning’s must begin with a cup of coffee even though I have always been a total morning person. My body knows when it is missing and I am quite OK with this. lol. I am due for a trip to Florida actually and I am trying to figure out a weekend to go. Too bad your snowboatding doesn’t take place near me in upstate New York – I would totally road trip my way north to say hi!

I can’t believe you made the trip there one day and back the next! I can’t count how many times I’ve done that drive (well…sat in the car while someone else did) and I think I would rip someone’s hair out if I didn’t have at least a little time in between. But that being said, I actually haven’t been to the mountains in YEARS, which shocks me considering how often I used to go. So maybe I wouldn’t mind too much. 😉 Glad you enjoyed, your trip looks like it was so fun!

It definitely makes for a jam packed couple of days, and while I would have loved to go up for longer, real life kind of makes that hard to do 🙁 The drive is definitely brutal though… the one to Jasper is so much prettier.

I’m so jealous of your scenery–snow storm or not, the mountains is one of my absolute favorite places to be. And because you don’t have to return to reality today… you lucky person, you. Fun fact: the only reason I recognize the name Banff is because in a season of the Bachelor, they went to Banff National Park. 🙂 Regardless, it looks beautiful!

I’m ready for Monday. Tonight is improv which I missed last week (darn L.A. traffic!) so I’m in dire need of some fun!

Love this “as we speak”-format and lady, I don’t know how you do that: always when I’m planning to take a day of selfies, I tend to forget it after my first cup of coffee and remember when I am back home. Thumbs up for that. Also, looks like a pretty awesome weekend trip. Do you always have to go this far if you wanna go boarding?

If I want to go to the mountains, then yes — at least 3.5 hours. We have a couple of local hills here in the city, and while I’ll go to get rid of the boarding itch, it’s nowhere near as enjoyable as being up in the mountains.
