. WIAW … round fifteen .

August 17, 2011 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 89 Comments

EEEEeeeEEEeee! Kaiah’s gonna be just fine!

EeeeEEEeeee! 28 more days ’till I move!

EeeeeeEEEEee! It’s WIAW 😀

. – . – . – .

I woke up this morning with absolutely no appetite and no desire to eat. A rough day + a bad night = one Amanda that’s all out of whack 😯 But after sitting down at the computer with a warm cup of tea, and reading all of your amazingly supportive comments, tweets, and e-mails, I began to feel a bit better and decided it was time for breakfast…

Eggy bananafied oats topped with almond butter and chocolate pudding.

I spent the rest of the morning trying to keep myself occupied while I waited to hear from the vet about Kaiah. Now, I’m not the most patient person in the best of times, so this morning was sheer torture. Eventually, I gave up trying to keep myself occupied with menial tasks (like tidying and painting my nails), and turned to exercise as a way to try and relieve some stress.

But not before snacking first…

Rice cake topped with almond butter protein frosting and raisins

Not gonna lie; today’s workout sucked big time – so much so, that I don’t even think I can call it a workout. I did 15 minutes of intervals on the treadmill to warm up before moving on to weights, but I threw in the towel about halfway through my routine because my heart just wasn’t in it.

I would say that I was dragging my feet because I had too much on my mind, but I think I’m going through a bit of an exercise slump because a lot of my workouts have been subpar lately. I can’t even really remember the last time I broke a good sweat, and I have no idea what happened to my motivation.

Maybe it’s just a phase. Hopefully it’s just a phase 😕

In any case, lunch was a much more satisfying experience…

Greek yogurt mess with Puffins, puffed wheat, Kashi Honey Sunshine, trail mix, and extra cinnamon. Mango protein pudding.

Salad beast with simple salad dressing

Mmm Mmm Good. But the best part of all was that I finally got the news that I was waiting for…

… and you can bet your bottom (gah, how old do I sound?!?) that I broke into dance before running out the door to bring my baby home. Ky’s kind of embarrassed about the whole ordeal, and told me not to share anything too personal on the blog, but basically she has an infection in one of the scent glands around her… errr… butt, which was causing her a lot of discomfort and making her all irritated and antsy. At first they thought that they were gonna have to operate, but it turned out not to be so bad and it should clear right up with antibiotics alone.

Huge sigh of relief.

I worry about her because she’s getting kind of old. She has the energy and attitude of a 6 month old puppy, but in a few short days she’ll be 8 years old, and I start to see her real age during the still moments when she’s not running around and being a goofball…

But enough about that. It’s happy time now. And  snack time too!

Deep Chocolate Vitamuffin, banana, almond butter, Greek yogurt.

Looks tasty, doesn’t it? I suppose it was, but I have to admit that I’m kinda, sorta getting tired of Vitamuffins. I used to think they were all that and a bag of potato chips, but let’s be honest here – that was back in the early days of my recovery when real desserts were scary, and my own baked “treats” were basically sugar/fat free lumps of flour and water.

What was I thinking?!? 😯

Needless to say, I won’t be buying another box after I get through the one I have, which means that I need to start looking around for a good chocolate muffin recipe (anyone know of any?). Until then, I’ll try to make the most of what I’ve got to work with…

I know. I feel sorry for me too 😉

But another snack more than made up for what the first one lacked…

Rice cake (obsessed) topped with almond butter and honey.

And dinner… err… yeah…

Pumpkin Hummus Tortilla Pizza

I hated it, obviously 😉 And now if you’ll excuse me, I have a cuddle date with a furry face and a bedtime snack to look forward to…

Oat bran mixed with applesauce; Greek yogurt, flaxmeal, cinnamon, and maple syrup.

. – . – . – .

Do you ever experience exercise slumps? How do you get out of them?

Have you ever been really impressed by a certain food/recipe, only to find that it no longer appealed to you after a while, and you find yourself wondering what you saw in it in the first place?

Whew! So glad to read that Kaiah is okay!! 🙂
Every once in a while I feel really out of it when it comes to working out and I take it as a sign to take a couple extra rest days or to mix it up and do some more low impact exercises or just easy bikes/walks. After I take some time off, I’m usually more than ready to get back into my more hard core workouts.
I’m still on the lookout for a knock my socks off chocolate muffin. I’m sure its out there somewhere! 😉

YAY! So happy you’re puppy is okay. It’s amazing the relationships hat we form with our pets, I don’t know where I’d be without my doggy.

As for the exercise slump, I’m sort of in one too. I’ve been so busy lately that I by the time I’m all done with work and (summer) school, I’m ready for bed. I don’t have a car right now though, so at least I’m getting some exercise in with biking. Maybe try switching it up? I used to hate biking; now that its a necessity I actually don’t mind it.

Yay! I’m so happy your pup is okay! She is so beautiful :]

I’m in an exercise slump right now and I am just using it as rest time. Maybe my body is just telling me it needs to take a break and then it’ll be ready to get movin’ again soon! Rest time is really important and you’ll be in the exercise mood in no time.

I am so happy that Kaia is ok! When my dog was just 6 months old, she hope the board blocking the stairs and ate all of my sisters easter chocolate (she is a shitzu and the runt of the litter). I came home to find her surrounded by chocolate wrappers and I flipped out. I literally ran with her to the vet and got her stomach pumped. She was fine, the vet said milk chocolate is not as bad as dark chocolate, but it was still scary.

The one fad recipe that I used to love was overnight oats. I ate it everyday last summer and now the thought of it makes me feel sick to my stomach.

Also I just want to say that this is my first time commenting and that I love your blog! I used to read your old blog and I was so happy that you started writing again! Have a great day!

So glad Kaiah is okay 🙂 Yuck, I hate the exercise slump. I try to change up what I’m doing. If I’m hating running, I switch to yoga or just take a break altogether and just try to get out and have fun (that counts as exercise too :)). I used to love all kinds of diet food, like microwave meals and now when I see people eating them it just looks like such a small amount of food and my heart breaks a little bit.

I cant tell you HOW many exercise slumps I run into as a runner. I get sluggish, annoyed, and lose motivation for something that I usually love to do. Then i realize I’m forcing my exercising to exercise, not because i enjoy it. Then i switch my routine a bit, take a swim, run a different route, or just take a good lazy week and I miss running again!

And Hun, 8 years old for your little pup is NOTHING! She still has plenty of years ahead of her :). My baby is at 13 and she still has the life of a newborn puppy at times 🙂

Awwww, yay for you pup being okay, great news! As for the slump, maybe try changing it up, maybe yoga to help relax during your move/ packing/ stuff, or just take a break all together. Usually when I take a break my body starts to crave exercise again, it is s awesome 🙂 and it is all repaired, refreshed, and raring to go. I used to think I loved vita muffins, also when I didn’t do my own grocery shopping, but now they just don’t taste as good and I know just how darn expensive they are. Personally I do not think they are worth the money, I’d only pay that much for something super tasty and vitas just don’t cut it anymore.

Yay! I’m so happy Kaiah’s okay! :] I haven’t had any exercise slumps lately. I think it’s because my workouts are never the same. When I do the same workout more than three times though, I’m not feeling it anymore. So I think if you try switching up your routine that should help :] I’ve been looking for a good chocolate muffins recipe too! I hope someone gives a good suggestion because I haven’t found anything so far.

Yes I get in exercise slumps all the time — I usually end up throwing my training plan out the window for a few days and I just do what I want — run, lift, exercise dvd, bike, etc — doesn’t matter, I just try to focus on moving each day. Then I usually get sick of not following my plan and hop back on the wagon.

Yay that’s such a relief that your pup is going to be okay!

Ugh I know what you mean about bad workouts – I just got back from a run this morning and I’m actually embarrassed to admit how many walking breaks I took. It sucked!!! Sometimes I find that switching up my workouts for a while can get me out of a slump. 🙂

I used to be obsessed with flavoured fat-free yogurts like Silhouette and Source… but now they just taste way too much of chemicals and artificial sweeteners. I like my yogurt au natural thankyouverymuch!

So glad to hear that your Kaiah is going to be ok! 🙂 And I love chocolate muffins too. I’ve never tried the Vitamuffin.. does it have special vitamins etc. in it?
Here’s my fav chocolate muffin/quick bread recipe. It’s actually chocolate and tahini (which I’m obsessed with right now!), but I’m sure it would be delicious with almond butter instead! I substituted greek yogurt for the apple sauce (essentially de-veganizing it) because i didn’t have any. Hope you try it when you can!

I’ve had some exercise slumps but I’ve found that if I change it up even just for a week and then go back to it, I’m raring to go again. I also found that changing my workout playlist helped! 🙂
As for the chocolate muffins, I’m sure I can work on a recipe for you 🙂

i’m so happy that your gorgeous dog is ok. She really is beautiful. What breed is she? I think the best wy to get out of an exercise slump is to just do a little and not to push yourself until you get your mojo back. You are probaly too stressed with all the goings on in your life at the moment. I’m sure you will get bacjk to it soon enough and it’s not the end of the world either.

We actually have no idea what breed she is because we got her from the shelter and she was part of a litter of stray puppies. The shelter said German Shep cross, but I think she probably has some border collie in her (a few of her littermates were black and white) and maybe some husky or elkhound.

For me the best way to get out of exercie slumps is to totally switch up my workout, trying a new sport or a new machine. I usually am pretty stuck on one kind of exercise, say running and one machine, currently the stationary bike. But when I feel I get bored by it I switch to the incline elliptical for a few months or throw in a few trips to the pool. With running it usually helps me to run a new route, since I always run outside the possibilities are almost endless. Sure, I like running in the woods the most but sometimes running through different neighborhoods and see different parts of the area you live in can make your run much more exciting again.

So glad your dog is ok! I bet your so relieved! I bet your exercise slump is down to all the other stuff going on in your life – your probably so focused on moving that all your mental and physical energy is in that. I found that when I’ve moved house or had a lot on my plate – bad or good, my work outs have suffered because my minds been somewhere else. I’m sure once your settled your mojo will return!

Sometimes I also don´t feel like working out and when I push myself and start working out, I just don´t “feel it”. I think that it is my body´s way of telling me it needs a) more rest, b) a change in my workout routine. So I usually give myself a little break or try a new workout (or change my running playlist :).

I hear what your saying about the vita-tops. I haven’t had them in over 8 months since i’ve been vegan, but prior to that I was addicted to those things. Not because they tasted amazing or anything, but because I was amazed by the fact that they only contained 100 calories and still gave me my chocolate fix. 😛
