. thinking out loud #54 .

November 21, 2013 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 94 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! šŸ˜€

Thinking-Out-Loud

1.Ā Nothing like a good dose of blog issues to really get you going in the morning!

Spoons Down

I woke up all ready to go with my WIAW post yesterday morning, only to discover that my server was having issues and that Spoons was down for the count. The count wasĀ supposed to be no longer than 15-30 minutes, but ended up being somewhere along the lines of 6Ā hours. I may have been slightly losing my mind. My home may also be spotless as a result of it…

2.Ā On that note… does anyone else have a problem withĀ obsessively checking/refreshing things when they aren’t working? And doing it every… oh… 32.6 seconds? I can’t help it — thatĀ tinyĀ flicker of hope that next time will beĀ the time is what gets me through.

3.Ā Well, that and snacks. High amounts of stress completely kill my appetite, but small bouts of anxiety or nerves? Eat ALL the foods!! The amount of grazing I did yesterday morning was pretty intense. It happens. Oh, and cold mac ‘n’ cheese is pretty much the best thing ever, in case you’re wondering.

Handful of Cereal
Mint Chocolate Chips

4.Ā WhatĀ I’m wondering is when the heck the Naked3 palette will be coming out…

Naked3

[source]

I mean, I guess it doesn’tĀ really matter since I promised myself I wouldn’t buy anything before Christmas, but I’d still like to know so that I can encourage… err… Santa… to pick one up ASAP before they all disappear from the shelves.

5.Ā Speaking of shelves, the ones in my fridge and pantry are looking a little bare. Not that they’re ever overflowing, since I live by myself and only buy small amounts at a time so I don’t have to worry about things spoiling, but I’ve run out of some staples (avocado, apples, kabocha, cucumbers, salsa),Ā and I’m running low on some others (yogurt, almond milk, baby greens, bananas, oats), so I’m going to have to visit a grocery store soon or I won’t have anything left to eat.Ā The reason for my negligence? The weather…

Cold Day

Unless I’m snowboarding, I really dislike being out in the cold, so I try to run my errands when the risk of losing noses and digits to frostbite isn’t so high.Ā It’s supposed to warm up to above freezing over the weekend, so I’m wondering if I can hold out until then. Probably not… unless I want to be eating canned beans and parsnips for dinner 😯

6.Ā On that note, what am I supposed toĀ do with parsnips? Eat them, obviously, but how?Ā I bought some on a whim a couple of weeks ago, and they’ve been lying around untouched because I’m not sure how to go about preparing them. I hear they’re good roasted, or in soups, but I need concrete opinions here!

7.Ā I realized a sad truth the other day — I can’t sew. I mean, maybe IĀ couldĀ if I actually tried it (I used to be able to when I was younger), but my home lacks any of the necessary tools that would allow me to do so. Needles? Thread?Ā Yeaaaaaah, about that… I also don’t own an ironing board or an iron 😯

8.Ā It wouldn’t be a random post without random facts…

RF Dentist

RF Period Names

RF Caffeine

RF Cutest Google

RF Seven Up

1. I want to say “those lucky buggers,” but at the same time… that seems a bit wrong.
2. What I want to know is… why do we have to come up with so many different way to refer to our periods?
3. Whatever works…
4. šŸ˜† Alright, who tried it?! It works! Talk about insta-mood lifter.
5. You think it’s all fun and games, until someone loses an eye gets labelled aĀ cheater.

9.Ā  Unlike last week, this week IĀ am going to stop on an even number, just to spite my odd brain… And I’m going to do it by telling you that I’m planning on putting up an exercise update post tomorrow to fill you guys in on what’s been going on with my running and what my plans are looking like for the winter.

(10. šŸ˜‰ ) Happy Thursday, friendly faces! Enjoy your day!

. – . – . – .

Do you get hit with the munchies when you’re nervous?
Are you a compulsive checker too?
What’s one item on your Christmas list?
Can you sew? How about knit?

Parsnip fries are awesome – but I am lazy and dont want to cut them into fries shape, so i just cut thin circles and fry them on ghee/butter and sprinkle with salt. I am obsessed with them <3 this week I made them 3 times šŸ™‚

My computer has been giving me SO many issues the past few weeks. It’s driving me a little bit crazy. I think I may just need to bite the bullet and buy a new computer or something.
Not cool. And I’m totally guilty of the constant refreshing every .5 seconds because I think things magically fix themselves. Sadly not.
Oh man it’s COLD in Edmonton. Thankfully it’s not that nor will it ever be here;)
And you have to bake parsnips with sea salt, coconut oil, and rosemary. They are amazing!

I am DEFINITELY a stress eater. It’s comforting and distracting and sometimes I really need to keep it (or maybe just the stress!) in check. But when I’m truly in crisis-mode, I don’t get hungry at all. Something about the adrenaline seems to suspend appetite, which is generally unheard of for me.

Parsnips. Well, the only thing I can think of that I’d made with em is a hash – throw some turkey, sweet taters, parsnips, sweet taters, and spinach in a pan, saute it up, and top with a poached egg. NOM. The key to parsnips, I think, is to let other flavors overwhelm it!

Brr it is so cold there! I dont blame you for not wanting to go out! I am definitely a nervous eater AND a compulsive checker- with everything! Partially because I was not blessed with the patience virtue so I constantly check because I just want things DONE!

I’ve never had my blog server go down, but I hate it when my internet goes down, especially for hours at a time! So annoying.

Ooh parsnips! I like tossing them with olive oil and roasting them, then in the last 5 minutes of cooking toss them with a combination of butter + garlic + minced shallot + chives + thyme + rosemary + salt. So flipping good!

    Nope, can’t sew, can’t knit, can’t crochet… I’m useless. I can do laundry and iron though. šŸ˜›

It’s actually a little sad how antsy I can get when I lose the Internet — I hate the idea of so many things going on and me not having any access to ’em šŸ˜† I can’t even remember what life was like before we were basically plugged in 24/7.

Jee whizz that.is.cold! I can’t take cold at all. At least now that I’m eating more I don’t need to wear 6 layers and still be freezing. But then I haven’t experienced that level of coldness ever. Ugh stupid server issues..and here I was checking for you a bazillion times on Wednesday. Roasted parsnips are quite delicious – the only way I’ve had ’em. Me and my older sister refer to periods as ‘Aunt Suzy’! LOL. I couldn’t even tell you how that started, its been our term since forever. I avoid needles/sewing like the plague. Can’t bear to think how dangerous that sort of think could get in my hands

Ugh server issues are the worst. Baked parsnip fries are heavenly, but I have made parnsip “rice” and pureed them into squash soup which were both good!

So annoying and not cool about your server being down!! And yes I am an obsessive / impatient checker of anything that can be refreshed šŸ˜‰

I don’t know what that makeup palet is but now I want it!!

Love that ā€˜the English have landed’ phrase…too funny I may use it now. My friends and I call it ā€˜Aunt Irma’ if you’ve ever seen the IT Crowd it is from that…if you haven’t seen the IT Crowd I suggest you go and watch it now!! Also want to try searching google now for ā€˜who’s the cutest’ hehe

I taught myself to knit last year from watching videos on youtube. And I actually took sewing lessons when I was younger if you can believe as I thought I wanted to be a fashion designer so my dad had a family friend teach me.

I don’t have an iron or ironing board either! I’m glad I’m not the only one. I feel like it’s something I should invest in but [so far] it hasn’t been totally necessary.
I can’ t even imagine how cold it is there! I can honestly say that I’ve never experienced weather that cold. I went to NYC for Christmas last year and it was around 15 degrees which was unbelievable for me! California, born and raised…

And the Naked 3 palette came out today! <3

Did you make more macaroni cheese :)? I know I did! What’s your favourite recipe? I used havarti and little macaroni plus some cream and Parmesan ( so no cheese sauce just wonderful amounts of macaroni with cheesy cream!) SO GOOD. I am such a Muncher and I’m embarrassed to say my “handfuls” are about three times your Lovely petite ones, sigh, oh well. I hate the cold too- but I must admit mac and cheese is one of the plus sides šŸ˜‰

Confession: my macaroni and cheese came from a box šŸ™ But it’s a pretty brilliant idea to make your own cheesy sauce — that’s something that I’ll definitely be doing in the future!

Ohhh the anxious munchies. I ALWAYS get them. I never understand how my mum and sister completely lose their appetite when they are upset or stressed. For me, its the polar opposite!

Glad the issues were sorted with the computer- lucky in time for my morning routine of blog reading šŸ˜‰ When you learn what to do with pasnips, let me know- I’ve got two in my pantry and have no idea what do with them! LOL Love the last fact- I’m telling all my teacher friends!

My server was down a few weeks ago (maybe just last week?) and I hit the refresh button so many times. And not just on one computer. I had it on my iPad, phone, Aaron’s computer, and mine. I was a bit crazy. Then I called them and told Bluehost to fix it šŸ˜‰ Haha No idea what happened, but it’s pretty darn nerve wracking! These facts you learn are too funny. I read this on the treadmill and laughed out loud. I need to remember the Google one for when I’m having a rough day, ha. One way to make you feel instantly better, right?

Eh, I’m really not too much of a munchies person. But when I get nervous, I do always feel like cooking something. It never fails to calm me down.

Omg, I refresh EVERYTHING every chance I get- my FB, my Twitter, my Pinterest, my WordPress Reader/Blog Stats, Email- all of it. I always get a small little twinge of anticipation, thinking that there’s gonna be some new thing for me to see. It’s kinda funny now that I think about it lol

I don’t really have a Christmas list. I haven’t given it much thought to be honest. I just enjoy the season-part of it, rather than the gift getting part these days.

Cannot.sew.at.ALL. Like nothing. I knew how to cross stitch at one point, but I long since forgot. If I had to sew my own clothes, I’d definitely be naked.

Holy cow, it’s cold where you are! I clean when I’m obsessing about something too. It’s like if I can’t control that situation, I can at least control the vacuum marks on my carpet. I’m also a compulsive checker. I had “wi-fi” (I use that term loosely cause it didn’t work) on my bus ride last week and stuff just wouldn’t load. It was terrible.
