. thinking out loud # 102 .

October 30, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 85 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. You guyssssssss. I’m so, so sorry for being so MIA lately (especially with the recipes!!), but life has been kicking my butt in the best possible way. Between work, school, behind-the-scenes business planning, and a few too many bouts of sleeplessness, I’ve either lacked the time or mental energy required to post as much as I’d like to over the past couple of weeks. Thankfully, I think I’ve finally fallen into a good groove with the new schedule, and with things slowing down now that it’s the end of the month, I should be back to my regular posting schedule starting next week. That being said…

2. I seriously can’t believe it’s the end of October and that tomorrow is Halloween. Does it not feel like it to anyone else? I mean, I’ve been noticing a general decline in Halloweenie-ness over the past couple of years, but this year feels particularly bad… as in, it’s missing completely. I blame the stores for that one. There other day I saw Santas hanging out next to skeletons, and it’s hard to feel all creepy and ghoulish when you’re being bombarded by cute snowmen, reindeer, and penguins…

Holiday Cards

3. But I’m okay with this because I’m not really a huge Halloween person to begin with. I mean, I used to think it was fun to dress up and have an excuse to wear wild makeup without getting weird looks from people I passed in the streets, but it’s been a good handful of years since I’ve done anything like that, and I’m not really the kind of person who likes to stay in and watch scary movies, because — let’s face it — I’m a huge wimp. The last scary movie I watched was The Ring back in 2002, and after not being able to sleep normally for something like 2 weeks, I swore off the horror flicks for good. Heck, I can’t even watch scary movie previews 😯 I do, however, keep my yearly tradition of watching The Nightmare Before Christmas…

Nightmare Before Christmas

4. And I also seem to carry [mini] pumpkins around in my purse, if that counts…

Purse Pumpkins

5. Exciting news!! Love Grown Foods asked me to be one of their LOVE Bloggers (!!!), which I happily accepted because — hello — [peanut-free] oatmeal and cereal! I’d heard amazing things about the company before, and I’m happy to say that they’re all very much true. Not only are the products delicious, but the people behind the company are some of the nicest and most genuine that I’ve had the pleasure of working with. I can’t wait to share more of their products with you guys!

LOVE Grown Granola

6. Also exciting? The fact that the red holiday cups are coming back to Starbucks starting November 1st! Nevermind that I stopped going to Starbucks regularly over a month ago… I’ll be going back for those. Well, those and the increased productivity that the caffeine-saturated air gives me #winning.

Moment with Coffee

7. You guys will never believe what I found in an office supply store the other day…

Minion Plushie

Right?!?! Remember when I complained about the lack of minion plushies when I went to Universal Studios? Who would have thunk that I’d find one in Staples while picking up flash cards and highlighters. And yes… I did indeed take one home with me

8. But at least I didn’t stoop too low and buy one of these…

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXYJpntaHww&w=576&h=315″]

Although I’m not gonna lie… it’s tempting 😆 😆

9. I was going through the pictures I took on my last trip to the mountains, when I came across this one…

Creepy Longhorn Rock

It was just some random rock formation I came across on our hike to Troll Falls, but tell me it doesn’t eerily look like a longhorn skull!!

10. Alright chums (what??), that’s it for me today! I hope you guys are having a fabulous Thursday, and I’ll [hopefully] see you tomorrow with some monthly favourites! If not, don’t forget we turn the clocks back an hour this weekend!

We have had Christmas Decorations up at the Costco I frequent since mid October – no lie! And I love it cos I love Christmas – am not big into Halloween either – but, you wanna know something sad – but true – my work threw a HUUUGE Halloween bash for EVERYONE! But then we were told there would be no holiday celebrations …go figure!

It’s way too soon for Christmas. We haven’t even had Thanksgiving here, not to mention I’m passing out Halloween candy to all the kiddos right now. Be right back.

Alright, I just met Frankenstein and a princess and they appeared to be together. Interesting.

Congrats on the Love Grown gig. Awesome news.

Nooooo! I forgot about daylight savings time >< Oof! This one is always the hard one haha! I mean, it will be nice waking up when it's not dark out, though! Early mornings do not seem the same when you're up before the sun. I always like waking up AS the sun is rising because I feel like it's a gradual (and relaxing) wakeup WITH the sun… Just me?… Yeah.

Lol, I always go to Starbucks for those red cups. They must be laced with something.

Anywhoo loved this post- want one of those minions – congrats on good busy (the best kind)

    Thanks as always 🙂

It drives me nuts that Canada goes crazy for Christmas the day after halloween, and now before halloween! This is the issue with Thanksgiving being in October…but you don’t want to get me started on that 😉

I’m definitely with you on that one! Feels strange to have Thanksgiving so early… like it’s just an afterthought and not really a big deal.

Can you please explain #4! hahah! Gotta stay prepared for all things Halloween. Congrats on being a LOVE Blogger. I personally feel like Halloween isn’t that big anymore…but that’s because I don’t do much for this holiday…not because of my surroundings. I did find it weird that I was buying my Christmas cards (BOGO at Hallmark) before Halloween…yeah, I was that girl this year! haha! xoxo, ganeeban

Don’t apologize for being MIA! I’d rather you take a few days away from the blog versus you having a nervous breakdown from being so busy! 😉

Congrats again on the Love Grown gig! If only their products were all nut free – their granolas look so dang good!

Awwr 🙁 You can’t do any of the other tree nuts besides almonds, eh? At least there’s always the homemade option — which is also always so.dang.good.

Isn’t it crazy all the Christmas stuff out already?! I went to Target today to try to find a Halloween-ish top to wear while teaching my BodyPump class tomorrow, and pretty much all the Halloween stuff was replaced with Christmas already! Seriously?! It’s not even Halloween yet! Craziness. I’m not a huge Halloween person either though. However, it is a lot more fun this year now that Hunter is involved and a little older. 🙂

I went to Disney and Universal (in Florida) in September and minions were everywhere! I love them – and I got a pair of minion pajama pants to prove it 😉

Congrats on becoming a Love blogger! It sounds like a great company – and the collaboration makes perfect sense, with your love of oats and cereal and such 😀

Loving the minion – I wish we had a Staples so I could search for one! You’ll be happy to know that one of my CF friends and I are going to be minions for our Halloween WOD. =) Oh red cups… I might have to start going in for those…maybe it will help me gain some blogging mojo back! And CONGRATS on your new blogging gig! That is quite amazing. =)

I am not okay with Christmas stuff in stores already. And I also can’t believe it’s almost November. I just moved from Pennsylvania to Texas so it EXTRA doesn’t feel like it for me, haha.

I’m totally with you on being a huge wimp when it comes to all things scary. In fact, I wrote about how much my hubby LOVES that stuff and so it’s always difficult this time of year to keep his expectations low. Poor guy. He tries to bribe me to watch scary movies, go to corn mazes and haunted houses and it never works. No way, no how buddy! I like to sleep at night.

Oh my gosh I’m laughing so hard at that Flipeez video right now. Those are going to haunt those children for the rest of their lives – I see years of therapy in their futures. That, and I bet someone’s going to get whacked in the face and then sue. Well, not to mention those are the dumbest things I’ve ever seen in my life. hahaha

Ok so I’m totally not the only person who has noticed the decline of Halloween. It’s something I also starting noticing a few years ago and wondered about ever since. Maybe we just think it’s declining because we’re older and aren’t surrounded by it in school like we were in middle school and high school? I dunno…but regardless it is a bit sad even though I hate the holiday 😛 I keep debating on whether to go out tomorrow/this weekend or not and secretly realllyyy want to stay home and hide out in my pajamas 🙂

I thought it was a school thing too, but I’ve even noticed that WAY less kids come around trick or treating. The streets used to be packed when I was little, and now? No kids at all!

I’m so excited that it’s Halloween tomorrow. I love dressing up! And my ginger friend is bringing me to a party so I’ll be able to say I know more than like 4 people in a 100 km radius, lol. But I will be watching TNBC because tradition.

I am with you on Halloween decorations. I don’t like the creepiness of them at all. I don’t do horror movies well either, I can’t remember the last time I watched one.I did see The Ring back in the day and I am scarred for life!

I think my husband and I should watch The Nightmare Before Christmas tomorrow night. Can you believe he has never seen it? To be honest I don’t really think he would like it, but I want to watch it, I haven’t seen that movie in forever and it was a favorite growing up.

Congrats on becoming a Love Blogger! And thanks for the heads up about the Starbucks red cups. Everyone knows Starbucks drinks are even more delicious when you drink them from a holiday cup!

I know what you mean about Halloween – I am ALL about strutting around in my Santa hat during the month of December, but I cannot be bothered to dress up for Halloween. Tomorrow my friends and I are planning a comfy movie night sans-costumes. So needed.

As are the holiday cups! I know I sorta shun Starbucks but I’m definitely a fan. They used to bring them out in the fall, I thought?
