. thinking out loud #62 .

January 23, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 141 Comments

It’s Thursday, and you know what that means! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. You know that exciting news I mentioned at the end of yesterday’s post? Time to spill the beans… this girl’s going to Disneyland! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Come Saturday morning, I’ll be hopping on a plane bound for LAX and looking forward to enjoying 5 days in sunny California.

Palm Trees

Here’s the story… My mom had a bunch of vacation days that she needed to use up before March, so about a month ago we started looking at a few places that we might want to take a quick trip to. We couldn’t really decide on a place to go, so when I got asked to write a post for Disney, I casually brought up the idea of going to Disneyland, not really thinking anyone would be too interested. Lo and behold, Mom loved the idea, and we ended up booking our trip that same day. Can.not.WAIT.

2. Is it sad that, as excited as I am to visit the Magic Kingdom, I’m almost equally as excited to go here?

Vegas Chipotle

(not here here, since that particular Chipotle is in Vegas, but I need a burrito bowl in my life)

3. β€¦ and here?…

Whole Foods!

(circa 2012)

4. What can I say? It’s not easy living up here in the foodie wasteland that is Canada (or anywhere that isn’t the States, for that matter). This is what I’m currently losing sleep over…

Almond Butter Scrapings

That would be my jar of Justin’s maple almond butter… or what’s left of it. I picked up a couple of jars the last time I was down in the States for HLS, and the only reason they’ve lasted this long is because I’ve been doing some serious rationing and rotating. You better believe that I’ll be travelling with a half-empty suitcase so that I can stock up on some of my favourite foods while I’m down there! How many jars of AB do you think I would need to last me for at least 6 months?..

5. In other grocery-related news, look what my snack tooth made me do…

Snacky Grocery Haul

Cinnamon Puffins — Enjoy Life crunchy rice cereal — Mediterranean Snacks cucumber dill baked lentil chips — Enjoy Life mountain mambo trail mix — Dr. Kracker pumpkin seed cheddar crispbread — Belsoy dark chocolate pudding

6. In other travel-related news, the dates and location were finally announced for Blend 2014, so Park City, Utah is where I’ll be from June 6-8 this year. After spending enough time kicking myself for not going in the past, I made it a point to attend this year, so if you need me, that’s where I’ll be.

7. As for where I’ve been… in the elevator taking selfies of myself in boarding gear snowboarding. Lots and lots of snowboarding…

Elevator Boarding Selfie

The weather in these parts has been insanely warm for January (a few degrees above freezing), so I’ve been spending as much time on the hill as I can manage.

8. The only downside to all this boarding is the fact that my appetite has been out.of.control, which might partially explain #5… and the fact that half of the things in that haul are already gone. Oops? 😯

9. Some advice… DO NOT try to swallow vitamins while chewing gum. Trust me… just don’t do it.

10. DO share your random thoughts with me! It’s become one of the highlights of my Thursdays πŸ˜€

I’ve told you before but I love your ToL posts because it is perfectly suited to Aussie time. Actually, I logged on randomly to see it pop up in ze bloglovin…vibing again!

Stoked to hear the D-land is in the books and even more stoked that the two foodie meccas are being visited….do me a favour and force them to come to Australia. Yep, Australia before Canada. You guys are like a skip away!

Save a seat for me at Blend.

How exciting that right after writing your love letter to Disneyland, you can actually go there. You should at least get free entries for the free advertising πŸ˜‰ I hope you have an awesome time and make sure to eat a Chipotle burrito for me too! Somehow people are to keen to spend there money on partying here and not so keen to spend it on eating out. I really have to make the girls to fetch some Thai food, or at least some classic French food with me soon.

Eeeeee you going to Disney again!! Pack me in your suitcase??
My roasted almond butter just breathed its last spoonful πŸ™ ..and I only get the white almond butter over here which isn’t bad, but you know..the grass is always greener..!
Ohmygosh the pudding I get comes in exactly the same packaging (colors, writing etc) but its called Alpro not Belsoy. Weird.

Great thoughts! It is so funny how foodies get so excited about the idea of a particular food. My coworkers get mad (or laugh) at me when we go on a trip and I am looking up all the places I wanna eat to make the most of it….so we dont end up at McDonalds, but to them it really has no implication on their life…..in fact they said if they could eat a pill that fed them for the rest of their lives…they would!!!!! That blows my mind! They are men though πŸ™‚

So excited for you to have a great time in Disney, and so very jealous! I understand your missing food pains of Canada, I have a similar thing with what I miss from home, my suitcase is always 60% food from England! Have a wonderful time!

I feel kind of bad that you can’t shop at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods to pick up your favorite things or even the new things we United States people talk about so often. This would really bother me. I am super excited for you to get to Disney Land though this weekend and have a chance to not only enjoy a vacation at the happiest place on earth but pick up the necessities.

Disneyland is fun! It seems so weird to be in the middle of the park when urban L.A/Anaheim is surrounding you. When I was there, I definitely felt like the hustle and bustle of that massive city was left behind.

Totally agree about the Canadian foodie wasteland comment – I go crazy on American food when I go to the States. Chiptole, just your average Mexican restaurants, Cheesecake factory, Chobani yoghurts, Trader Joes, etc. etc. etc.

I’ve been to Disney World a million times, but never to Disneyland. Now, whenever I think of Disneyland, I think of “Saving Mr. Banks.” Did you see that?

You picked the right time to come to SoCal! We’ve had nothing but perfect (although dry) 70 degree weather all winter (I actually typed summer first because that’s what it has felt like) long. It makes me wonder what kind of summer we’ll have though. Anyway, have fun at Disney, and make sure you try In and Out Burger and Wahoos! They have one in Costa Mesa which is close by Anaheim.

I agree, we need a whole foods/trader joes, something like that up here! I went to Superstore the other day and actually found a few things that I would have swore would have never been marketed up here – some jerky from a very small company and a jar of cookie butter — shouldn’t have gotten the cookie butter but holy wow that stuff is good.

I have a box of the pumpkin Dr. Krackers in my pantry! Been waiting to open them til after I finish some other snacks. How are they?! AMAZING? I bet. I want to make squash bisque and dip them into it. Ooooh yes.
I totally know what it’s like to have those places you HAVE to visit on vacation. I have plenty back in Florida. Funny for me I never go to Chipotle because we have them everywhere here now but back when we didn’t and the first one opened, I waited in a HUGE line to have some! I’m having Whole Foods for din tonight and will appreciate it extra, in your honor.

This weekend I’m hitting the slopes. I’ve been skiing a lot, but I’m attempting snowboarding for the first time. I’m so excited, but also scared. Eeee!
