. thinking out loud #10 .

by Amanda @ .running with spoons. on December 13, 2012

1. Waking up at 3 AM to catch a 6:30 flight doesย not prime one for having a wild and crazy night in Vegas. Needless to say, last night I was passing out at 10 and in bed by 11. Thankfully, a solid 8 hours of sleep means tonight is going to be a good one ๐Ÿ˜€

2. Automated toilets stress me the heck out. I always feel like they’re going to go off too early…

3. And while we’re on the topic of bathrooms, I came acrossย this little gem in the Vegas airport…

… ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Like, what in the eff? Can anyone tell me why that would be in there?

4. Cinnamon, never leave home without it…

5. Never leave home without breakfast either…

6. As with everything else, Vegas celebrates Christmas with pizzaz. Who needs real trees when you have one entirely made of lights?

7. Gotta love finding random, accidental pictures on your phone. I see a finger, a hand, and an escalator…

8. I also saw about 30 brides running around Vegas throughout the course of the yesterday. Now, I’m not from around these parts, but that seems like a lot… even for Vegas. It just hit me today that yesterday was 12/12/12, which I guess was a good day to get married.

9. Thank you God…

10. It’s not Starbucks, but it works in a pinch…

. – . – . – .

Are you a Chipotle fan? What do you usually order?
What was for breakfast this morning?
Any random thoughts to share?ย

Hehe. It cracks me up that you bring your cinnamon with you. That’s the kind I use too.

And I LOVE Chipotle. I usually get the veggie burrito with brown rice. Love that it comes with guacamole, and it usually makes two meals’ worth. Yum.

2 chelsey @ clean eating chelsey December 13, 2012 at 6:34 pm

You’re too funny! Some people actually have to give themselves shots to administer medication. I’m guessing it’s not for the random drug addicts ready to shoot up. ๐Ÿ˜‰

3 Jill December 13, 2012 at 7:11 pm

Yup! The sharps bins can be used for diabetics who have to give themselves insulin or other meds. At one point, I was on a study and taking hormones for bone growth (due to osteoperosis caused by anorexia) and had to inject myself within 20 minutes of my meals which meant doing it in the restaurant bathrooms, but most didn’t have sharps bins. Aaaaaaaaand, even if they were for drug users, it’s a pretty well-supported public health approach of risk reduction, because regardless of whether or not there are appropriate places for disposal, people will use drugs-this just makes the risks/harm associated with it less!

4 Sandra December 13, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Yup, exactly the reason they are there. I personally appreciate seeing those disposal units in washrooms and have noticed them crop up more and more. Either way, like you say… it’s safer for everyone if there are proper places to dispose of used needles – mind you, that’s only if the users/diabetics/whomever take advantage of using them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

5 Amanda @ .running with spoons. December 14, 2012 at 10:03 am

I figured it was for medication, but the airport in Vegas was the first place I saw one so it kind of threw me off.

6 Cassie December 14, 2012 at 2:08 pm

Yup, it wouldn’t shock me if Vegas had a drug problem and this is the response. Unfortunate, but responsible in a way.

7 Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin December 13, 2012 at 6:36 pm

Vegasssss hope you’re having a blast darlin! I love Chipotle – I get the barbacoa burrito or burrito bowl! So delish. For breakfast I had a bran muffin and a banana. womp womp Miss you pretty lady but jealous of the fun you’re having <3

8 Caitlin December 13, 2012 at 6:37 pm

I’ve never been to Chipotle…and there’s one around the corner from my apartment…strange I know…should probably get on this and change it as soon as I have money again…so, late jan early feb? I love the fact that you travel with cinnamon…and I hate a bowl of pumpkin spice oatmeal with lots of crazy toppings! Thinking either that or pancakes tomorrow :)

9 Megan @ runningonjava December 13, 2012 at 6:40 pm

I ALWAYS get a burrito bowl with chicken, brown rice, black beans, fajita veggies, mild salsa, and corn. Guac on the side :) I honestly think I could eat it every day. Sigh, I suppose this impersonator will have to do if there’s no Bux. hope you have a great trip!

10 Sam @ Better With Sprinkles December 13, 2012 at 7:09 pm

I’ve never been to Chipotle…I meant to go when I was in Chicago but it never happened!

Considering that it’s in an airport, I’d assume it’s not a dropbox for heroin needles, but maybe people who use it for medications and can’t bring them on an airplane? (weapons and all that jazz?) Although it IS Vegas, so hard to say for sure.

I love how you brought the cinnamon with you…that’s dedication!

11 Alex @ therunwithin December 13, 2012 at 7:10 pm

holy moly that needle thing really? automatic toilets scare me so much for that reason, I fear it will come splashing at me when I am going. scary stuff I tell you. I have one of those flights next tuesday morning for work, dreading it. I feel an early crash that night but I doubt I can with the training. scary scary. I hope you are freaking living it up!

12 Devon @ Health in Equilibrium December 13, 2012 at 7:57 pm

For breakfast this morning it was oats (no surprise there) and my new best friend, PEANUT BUTTER!!!

13 lindsay December 13, 2012 at 8:11 pm

i just want to say PRAISE GOD—> chipotle

14 Kate December 13, 2012 at 8:20 pm

UGH the early morning flights blow. I’ve never been on one that early, but I’ve had to wake up at 3:45-4:00 ish for some road trips and yeah,….my body hates it. I’ve got to admit I’ve never understood the obsession with Chipotle…California Tortilla is where it’s at!!

15 kris December 13, 2012 at 8:25 pm

You’re right! Never leave home without breakfast. I was in a rush this morning and ended up grabbing a a protein bar and making a quick stop by starbucks drive thru for a soy latte, but breakfast at home is soo much better.
Sometimes I’ll get the most random cravings for chipotle and always order the chicken burrito bowl. Or the vegetarian bowl since it comes with a huuuge glob of guacamole. yum.
And omg, those automatic toilets! They always flush at the wrong time! And than i freak out because I think that I got germs all over me. haha

16 Shelly December 13, 2012 at 8:58 pm

Automated toilets totally irritate me. I’m barely 5′ tall and inevitably they decide I’ve left when I haven’t.

17 Olivia @ Life As Liv December 13, 2012 at 9:19 pm

Chipotle is so, so good. I normally get the taco salad with everything on it. ….And now I’m craving Chipotle. ๐Ÿ˜‰

18 Gina @ Health, Love, and Chocolate December 13, 2012 at 10:29 pm

I actually love Coffee Bean and go whenever I am near one (there are none in my area of CA). I am also a fan of Chipotle burrito bowls and appreciate the places that have my beloved brown rice!

19 lucie December 14, 2012 at 2:02 am

Oh God, automatic toilets are SO scary. I always have the feeling that a real person is somehwere in there watching me. I can’t say I’d like that. This lights-tree is SOOOO beautiful!! I am just having a late breakfast – pumkin-eggie-porridge. I did that the first time today and it is officially my favorite recipe.

20 Amanda @ .running with spoons. December 14, 2012 at 10:09 am

Haha! It’s definitely a little off-putting to think that there’s some sensor type thingy “watching” you go.

21 Khushboo December 14, 2012 at 2:44 am

Looks like your trip to Vegas is off to a great start- hope the slots are kind to you :)! Can you believe I’ve never had Chipotle- crazy I know! Unlike Panera and all those other delicious-sounding American chains, Chipotle is actually opened up in London which means I have no excuse not to try it…any suggestions? Glad that I read this post & saw your yogurt bowl right before breakfast…because Greek yogurt is on the menu, with a chopped apple, cereal, nuts & honey…and cinnamon (duh!) – yum!

22 Amanda @ .running with spoons. December 14, 2012 at 10:11 am

Definitely no excuses! I’m a big fan of the burrito bowl with chicken, brown rice, corn salsa, cheese, and guac. Holy.yum.

23 Shreya @ rushofendorphins December 14, 2012 at 3:48 am

I hope you’re having an amazing time in Vegas… heck, I’m sure you are!

Breakfast this morning was a good ol bowl of oats ๐Ÿ˜‰ Also I’ve been having the kind of day where my appetite seems to be insatiable… I’ve taken a week off strenuous exercise and I’m getting hungrier than ever :( I am trying my best to honor it, but such things still throw me off track from time-to-time.

Can’t wait to hear all about your trip love!

24 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin December 14, 2012 at 5:15 am

Haha I would have crashed into bed early if I’d been up that early too. But I hope you’re all caught up on your sleep and having a blast! ๐Ÿ˜€

I tried Chipotle for the first time this summer on my road trip through the US and I loved it! Their burrito bowl with cilantro rice, lettuce, tomatoes, fajita veggies, black beans and guac (there might have been some other stuff in there too – I can’t remember) was amazing!

Right now for breakfast I’m having banana egg white oats with soy nut butter, blueberries, and granola. It’s pretty much my standard breakfast these days.

Can’t wait to hear more about your trip girl!

25 Jun December 14, 2012 at 5:32 am

Breakfast today was pizza. Am I the only weirdo who can manage three slices of pizza for breakfast?

26 Amanda @ .running with spoons. December 14, 2012 at 10:13 am

Definitely not! Leftover pizza was one of my favorite breakfasts back in the day, and if it wasn’t for my current obsession with cereal, I’d be enjoying it these days too ๐Ÿ˜€

27 Laura December 14, 2012 at 6:47 am

Needle drop box= for people who need to administer insulin.

I also HATE automated toilets. They go off at LEAST two times before I leave the stall. Sheesh!

28 Whitney December 14, 2012 at 9:09 am

I think what you found in the bathroom is majorly disturbing and REALLY gross! What the eff is right!!

I don’t like automated toilets either! AT ALL!

Random thought- I want to start a blog- for real! :)

29 Amanda @ .running with spoons. December 14, 2012 at 10:14 am

It’s a lot of fun, and a great way to meet some amazing people, but it’s also a lot of work and a big time commitment, so you’ll have to decide if you can fit it in.

30 Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl December 14, 2012 at 9:35 am

When I was younger I would REFUSE to use a toilet with an automatic flusher. A lot of the times the sensers were up too high and I was short so they would ALWAYS flush too early. I hated it! Luckily, I have gotten over my fear of automatic toilets! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Breakfast this morning was amazing! A sunny-side up egg in between 2 whole grain waffles smothered in blackberry jam and pumpkin butter…with a banana on the side! Yum! :)

31 rebecca @ blueberry smiles December 14, 2012 at 9:44 am

Have a blast in Vegas!! I can’t stand automatic flushers either….and they usually flush like 3 times when I’m in there and it’s so annoying (and a waste of water!). I was in a bathroom somewhere (Chicago?) with automatic rotating seat covers and thought that was disgusting too

32 Brittany December 14, 2012 at 10:41 am

First of all check out this post..

HAHA I had the same WTF moment when I saw the sharps box in the bathroom. My first thoughts were maybe heroin addicts could shoot up and safely dispose their needles. Then I was informed maybe this was for diabetics and they needed a place to put their insulin needles..oohh. ofcourse.

Glad you had a great time in Vegas!! I neeeed to go!

33 Amanda @ .running with spoons. December 14, 2012 at 4:55 pm

I kind of thought it must be for medical reasons as well, and apparently they’re popping up all over the place now, but since Vegas was the first place I saw one, I kinda thought it was for addicts as well ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

34 Ashley @ AlmostVegGirlie December 14, 2012 at 12:17 pm

Those automatic flush toilets are THE worst. They always spray way more than regular toilets and most of them end up flushing several times before you even finish!

I’m jealous that you got Chipotle. There are too many to count here but I haven’t been to one in at least a year–no idea why! Now I’m craving their guacamole…

35 Lisa December 14, 2012 at 1:09 pm

I always bring cinnamon on trips with me as well:) I’ve seen those needle things in washrooms before, kind of bizarre/scary. I’m not sure haha. I hate the automatic flushers too! I’m paranoid, clearly. Ah, Chipotle! As you obviously know, we don’t have one here, I’ve never tried! Next time I’m in the States, I totally need to! How come we don’t get awesome things?

36 Hilary @ PeanutButterSpoonfuls December 14, 2012 at 1:43 pm

You are scared of automated toilets flushing too soon because they do flush too soon! And it’s worse if you hover because they think you’ve gotten up. But if you don’t hover, and they flush, you get splashed and ewww! Which makes you hover. Horrible invention!

37 Molly@This Life Is Sparkling December 14, 2012 at 3:39 pm

I love Chipotle! The vegetarian burrito bowl is my fav.

38 Meghan @ After the Ivy League December 14, 2012 at 4:51 pm

Love these thinking out loud posts. I’m a huge Chipotle fan..the burrito bowls call to me! Vegas looks so cool this time of year, it’s making me even more excited to go in a couple months!

39 Matt @ The Athlete's Plate December 14, 2012 at 5:49 pm

LOVE Chipotle! I always get a burrito bowl with brown rice, black beans, lettuce, tomatoes, guac, salsa. chicken, and extra cheese :)

40 Chelsie @ Balance, Not Scale December 14, 2012 at 6:44 pm

I miss you to absolute bits and hope to heck you’re having the time of your life!!! xoxox

41 Tessa @ Amazing Asset December 14, 2012 at 7:46 pm

I quite literally lol at the automatic bathroom bit, I could not agree more! It usually flushes when I am halfway up, pants still down and get sprayed with water… TMI? perhaps ๐Ÿ˜‰
I also concur on the breakfast one, never ever thought I would come as far as I have with that meal, but it has become my favorite foodie time of the day!

42 Brittany @ Delights and Delectables December 15, 2012 at 7:38 am

I heart Chipotle!!! I’m with you on the automatic toilets… they freak me out too. I would rather flush it myself thank you very much! The sharps box is there for diabetics. They have to give themselves insulin shots. ๐Ÿ˜‰

43 Kat December 15, 2012 at 8:13 am

haha that is a great date to get married!! You’d never forget it thats for sure. My best friend is getting married on 4/20 which is Hitlers bday, national pot day, AND the day that the columbine shotting happened. I tried to tell her thats not a good date, BUT she didnt seem to care too much lol.
Looks like you are having a blast out there, wish I could join you!! Wanna take a 5 hour detour and come visit me?? :):)

44 Madi December 15, 2012 at 9:39 am

did you not like coffee bean! it’s sooo good! their hazelnut lattes are the best!

45 Sara @ Nourish and Flourish December 16, 2012 at 12:17 am

I love that you carry cinnamon with you. I totally get it. (You already knew this, though). ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is one of my favorite chain coffee/tea shops! Definitely not Starbucks, but whenever I’m in California, I try hsrd to resist my automatic instinct in favor of switching up the typical routine. Dare I say it, I think I like The Coffee Bean’s Holiday Blend better than Starbucks’ Christmas Blend. (gasp!). However, the Buxx wins every other category.

I’m a huge fan of Chipotle’s guacamole, and often stop in, just to pick up several containers. When I eat a full meal there, I usually go with a chicken or steak burrito bowl, filled to rice, a few beans (gotta be careful, lettuce, salsa, a sprinkle of cheese and lots of guac. It’s *always* so good. ๐Ÿ˜€

46 Irina @ Chocolatea Time December 17, 2012 at 1:46 pm

Ahh I’m so excited for you to go to Vegas!! It’s such a fun place and it offers something new and different depending on what you’re hoping to do there and who you go with. I used to go with my parents and it was a very relaxing time filled with shows, shopping, and tanning out in the sun. This past June I went with two friends and it was a whole other world as a 21+ year old! You’re going to have an amazing time, I can’t wait to read all about it!
