. WIAW… an ode to almond butter .

July 2, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 86 Comments

Oh my dear, sweet almond butter; how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

I love thee in my breakfast…

Almond Butter Oats

… where you make my morning bowl of oats, oat bran, chia seeds, Greek yogurt, and banana that much more creamy and enjoyable.

I love thee in my morning snack…

Blueberry Almond Snack Bowl

… even when you’re not technically in buttery form — you still taste pretty good solid, especially when you’ve been soaked overnight and paired with blueberries and white chocolate chips.

I [missed] thee in my lunch…

Chickpea Salad

… where I had to replace you with avocado because I didn’t think you’d taste very good in a salad with chickpeas, cottage cheese, vinaigrette, and veggies. And while I could have had an almond butter and jelly sandwich, what I really wanted were some sweet potato nachos, so I went with those instead. Try not to be too upset with me.

Sweet Potato Nachos

I love thee in my afternoon snack…

Thick and Creamy Smoothie

… where you added the most wonderful texture and taste to my thick and creamy chocolate smoothie, which was especially refreshing after a gorgeous Canada Day afternoon walk in the park.

I love thee in my dinner…

Brown Rice Bowl

… where you paired perfectly with the bowl of honey sweetened coconut basmati rice [and Greek yogurt] that I had in an effort to settle a wonky stomach. It worked… thank you.

I [missed] thee in my evening snack…

Ice Cream Sandwich

… buuuuuuut only for a moment because ice cream sandwiches don’t really leave a lot to be desired 😉

Happy What I Ate Wednesday friendly faces! See you guys tomorrow for Thinking Out Loud!

If I wrote an ode to food it would be…pancakes! On a more literature focus I love Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Sonnet 43 has always been one of my favorites. Such a fun post! And ice cream sandwiches, man those things are good.

My ode would be to sweet potatoes. I love them so much! In fact, I once ate them so often that I turned orange, oops! 🙂

Love it! I feel like I’m saying an ode to almond/peanut butter all day long, too. I wonder how it would taste on an ice-cream sandwich!? I mean it’s no secret that pb is amazing in ice-cream and on Oreos, and an ice-cream sandwich is kind of the marriage of the two, no? Hmmmm….

What brand of almond butter do you buy? Yours looks much smoother than the kind that I buy.

Almond butter gets all the lovin’. If I were to give an ode, it would be either coffee or Chipotle’s guacamole if I had to choose a food. Seriously, that stuff is crack. I could eat it all day long… Salads, toast, eggs, UGHGIVEMEALLTHEGUAC! :o)

Sooo I take it you are a fan of almond milk ;)..love the stuff too! If recent foods are anything to go by, I’d probably do an ode to spinach, only because I seem to go through bags like water. I’d also do an ode to dark chocolate because errrr…no excuse needed ;)! Love the sound of your dinner, girl!

Seriously need to get on board with cooking things in coconut milk. Seriously started salivating at that! I can only imagine the creamy goodness that it produces.

My ode would be to chocolate…but having said that…am sitting here thinking…it’s been 3 days since I last had any…that needs to change…am off to hunt down some or steal some off a coworkers desk 😉

Almond butter dressing! That’s all I can say about the salad though I’ve never tried it [not a salad person]. And dipping the ice cream sandwich into the AB jar. Because I’m all about furthering an almond butter addiction to every meal possible. After all I’ve been known to say there was no wrong combination when almond butter is involved and I don’t want to be proven wrong 😉 . Yes, my ode would be to almond butter, too.
By the way: I finally tried cooking rice and other grains in coconut milk and now fully understand why you’re fond of them. So good. Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh you look like you go through a jar as quick as I do….gets kinda expensive, but sooooo worth it. I have been mixing golden syrup in mine recently, just a little! Do you have that in Canada? They don’t have it here, but I get my parents/friends to bring it over when they visit 🙂 If I did an ode to food….I am not sure I could pick…….would have to be chocolate I think!

I’m not sure about the golden syrup — I’ll have to keep my eyes open the next time I’m in the store. And have you ever tried making your own AB? I think that’s a little more cost-efficient.
