. thinking out loud #95 .

September 11, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 97 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Before we talk about anything else, we have to talk about the weather.

Snow in September

You guys… it snowed on Monday and Tuesday. Snowed. Okay, so it was more like heavy white rain and it didn’t end up sticking around, but still! I’ve actually had to keep the heater running over the past couple of days because it’s been that cold. As we speak I’m currently bundled up in about 3 layers, with fuzzy socks on my feet and a steaming mug of hot tea within arm’s reach at all times. Winter is coming.

2. … and will you hate me if I admit that I’m kind of, sort of, maybe okay with that because it just means that snowboarding season will be here soon?!? Don’t get me wrong… I’m not willing to skip over the fall months in favour of winter, but neither am I lamenting the changing seasons. It’s all about making the most of it, right?

Snowboard-Strapping-In

3. Oh! And speaking of the mountains, look what I came across in an old photo album while I was over at my parents’ this past weekend!

86 Jasper Skytram

That teeny, tiny speck on the left is me — leading my dad up a mountain — and the scene of the crime is the very same Jasper Skytram that I showed you guys from my last trip to Jasper…

Whistlers Trail

Look familiar? The first picture is circa ’86, making me about 1.5 years old and meaning that I’ve been visiting the mountains for basically my entire life. Fun fact: my first trip up there was actually when I was still in the womb — my parents went while my mom was pregnant with me. No wonder the mountains feel like home…

4. And speaking of home, Momma Spoons gifted me with the sweetest thing the last time I was over there…

Silver Spoons

That right there, friends, is a box of silver spoons that belonged to my grandma, which she gave to my mom as a wedding present, and which my mom gave to me for Spoons’ anniversary. Spoons for Spoons! So sweet I couldn’t even handle it. Literally. I was blubbering like a baby.

5. Baby, baby, baby bananas!

Baby Banana

Sorry… I’m easily distractible 😆

6. And if you need further proof of that, you needn’t look any further than the floors of my home, where you’ll often see things like this…

Swiffering

That would be my Swiffer, lying in the middle of the room where I conveniently abandoned it after losing interest in sweeping after about… oh… 2 minutes. This happens to me all.the.time. I’ll start cleaning, think of something else that needs doing, go do that, come back to cleaning, think of something else to do, etc., etc. And the best part is that I’ll leave brooms, mops, and vacuums lying in the middle of the floor for days — simply stepping over them when I’m walking around 😆 #winningatlife.

7. Didya hear?!!? The release date for the iPhone 6 has finally been announced! September 19th is the big day! And while I’m not sure if I’m going to preorder, I will definitely be getting one ASAP. I may have mentioned this [a few hundred times], but I’m still rocking the old 4, and it deserves to be put out of its misery. I can’t even open Twitter or Instagram anymore because of how often the darn thing crashes in the process, and it’s probably about ready to self-combust from the crazy amount of pictures it has on it. Mostly of food.

Panda Phone Case

8. And on that note, I’m going to leave you guys with the promise of pancakes on the morrow (did I honestly just say that?!?) because it’s getting close to that hour where I promised myself that I’d shut down for the night, even if that means ending a ToL on #8…

Apple Oat Pancakes

Happy Thursday, friendly faces! 😀

I can’t even IMAGINE snow right now. It’s still rockin’ in the 100s out here! At least you seem to have a pretty positive attitude about it. 😉 I’d be curled up in a depressed ball of sadness. Haha.

I seriously love that you’re so excited for winter and snow! I personally have never liked winter (good thing we’ll be out of MN for that this year!), but it’s refreshing to hear someone now complaining about it 🙂

I LOVE that you have a pic from the mountain in 86 and a present day pic to match! That’s so cool! I have similar old pics from when we were visiting my dad’s family in New Zealand when I was little. Those pictures are amazing. I love stuff like that! And on the subject of history, beautiful heirloom spoons!

Can’t wait for that recipe 🙂

I saw some others talking about snow yesterday via social media, but didn’t realize it was for real! I thought they were kidding!! Mother Nature has been weird this year. Hahahaha and at least leaving your swiffer means you know where to start ;). Pancakes??? Yay for pancakes!!! I’m already getting excited for my protein pancakes I’ll be having tomorrow. And I love that panda phone case, too cute!! I’m just hoping the Iphone 6 isn’t huge haha my tiny hands can barely type on the 4 { which I’m currently rocking too 🙂 }.

Awww…your mom is so sweet – love her “spoons for Spoons” anniversary gift – awwww…loved reading that! And look at your adorable mini-pre-spoon self hiking at a year and a half! WOW! My daughter didn’t start walking till she was 13+ months – and then too she was a bit wobbly – her friend of mine used to say: since she was talking well before, she was just gonna have me run around and get stuff for her instead of getting stuff for herself…dang, am rambling!
Don’t believe y’all are having snow in September!!! GAH – I better make sure I plan my visits to Canada in July – or are y’all still in winter then? 😉

I’m excited for the iPhone 6 to come out, because that means that the 5’s will be even cheaper! 😉 Seriously, as soon as I’m working again…first purchase.

It is hard to fathom how different weather can be. It is over 100 degrees F here and yet you are experiencing near snow. Couldn’t we meet somewhere in the middle?
How do you get your pancakes so perfect? I am anxiously awaiting tomorrow’s recipe (or is that the recipe posted on the morrow?)

Oh girl, believe me when I say that making pancakes is a super stressful process for me! But I think I’ve managed to come up with a few tricks to make the whole thing a little easier, and a lot of it depends on the consistency of the batter. That’s definitely the recipe coming up tomorrow 🙂

I actually get really excited when I find smaller bananas in the grocery store! For some reason I don’t really like eating an entire large banana. I kind of get tired of it by the end of the small ones are perfect.
Um don’t even tell me there is snow already. That is just way to depressing and makes me worried that its gonna be another awful winter.

I wish there was an easy way to determine what Fahrenheit temps those Celsius ones are. It just looks cold! Our weather is dipping down to the 60s F this weekend. I’m a bit ready for it 😉

You like winter though. I think that’s okay to hope snowboarding is here if there is an activity you like. I would prefer the fall and spring since I enjoy activities that go along with that.

I saw the iphone 6 but cannot get over how big it will go. Gosh. I don’t know if I can commit to it LOL.

Thanks for the reminder to a) buy a new Swiffer [my roommate kept the old one] and b) mop my floors. Which I actually enjoy.
