ipsy, fitbit, & muffins or pancakes? (ToL#196)

August 18, 2016 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 82 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. So many fun things to talk about today that I don’t know where to start! Ok. Ok. Let’s go withhhh… Ipsy! My glam bag came earlier this week and it seriously felt like Christmas in July August. I mean, getting packages in the mail is always fun times, but it’s even more fun when you don’t actually know what’s in them. I was pretty stoked with all the stuff I got in this month’s bag (makeup sponge, lip creme, nail polish, primer, & hair cream), so I’m going to keep my subscription rolling. I’ll let you guys know if I think you should join the fun after another bag or two.

August 2016 Ipsy Bag

2. And as good as it feels to get packages in the mail, it feels even better to find sunglasses that fit your face. I’ve been looking for a pair of aviators for years, but every single one I ever tried on looked absolutely ridiculous on me. And then these came along…

Gucci Aviators

I only had to travel 2,398km (1,490 miles)to find them 😂

3. Speaking of Vegas, I never did manage to get those 20,000 steps in. Came close, though!

17000 Steps

4. And speaking of steps, I’ve actually rekindled my relationship with my FitBit. I got my Charge HR at some point last year, but only wore it for a little while before I got bored of it. Fast forward to now, and I’m realizing that it’s actually a pretty useful tool if you need a little extra motivation to get those steps in… like I do 😕 As much as I love working from home, it usually means a lot of time on the computer, which means a lot of time sitting down. What I love about the FitBit is that, not only does does it let me see if I’m slacking on the movement that day, but it actually has a function that encourages you to get up and move (just 250 steps) every hour. And why’s this movement business so important? Well, to be completely honest, I’ve noticed that I feel a lot better when I’m moving regularly instead of planting myself in one spot and vegging for a couple hours. My mood is better, my digestion works better, and I have way more energy. I really like that it tracks your sleep, too. Or maybe I’m just wearing it to cover up the weird tan line it gave me in Vegas 😂

5. Another thing I’m loving? The Way of Shadows. I finished it halfway through my Vegas trip, and actually started reading it again since I didn’t bring any other books with me. I planned to only read it until I got home (since I have books 2 and 3 waiting), but I kept going because I’m picking up SO many things that I missed the first time around. This book has a tonne of plot twists, and Weeks inserts so many hints throughout the book that make way more sense the second time around. I definitely recommend picking it up!

The Way of Shadows

6. Oh! And I think I figured out why I couldn’t get on board with hot coffee for so long – it’s because I was going to Bux every day, and I realized that they just make their regular coffee way too strong for my tastes. I had no issues with the hot coffee in Vegas (I know, right?), and no issues with the hot coffee that I’ve been making at home since I got back, so I’m thinking my Starbucks office days might be done for now…

Good Morning Coffee

7. I’m thinking this post might be done too, BUT! I have a VIQ (very important question) to ask before I go, and that is… which recipe would you guys like to see first? I was originally going to post the pancakes that I showed you yesterday, but then I made some killer muffins (which you would have seen if you follow my Instagram stories) that basically rocked my socks off. They’ll both be up eventually, it’s just a matter of when. Let me know! I’m going to set up a poll on Twitter just to make it easier to see the votes.

Muffins or Pancakes

8. And on that note… I hope you have an awesome Thursday! Make it an epic one 😎

I’m not sure if I could choose between those muffins and pancakes – I think I’d have to have a berry muffin, chocolate pancake sandwich! YES!! Thats how I’d have to roll! No pun intended!
And Amanda, if you are looking to get in your steps on vacay – NYC is the way to go – my daughter and I averaged 18 to 20 miles everyday – and that’s only the walking bits! 🙂

That’s some serious mileage! I have a feeling NYC would be a little easier than Vegas since it’s basically impossible to be outside in the dessert!

I love my Fitbit! It definitely motivates me to get moving throughout the day and completely agree that it helps keep my brain and digestion fresh. I like going for a ‘digestion’ walk after lunch to get things moving. Eating then sitting still = the worst feeling. It makes me so tired!

I also loved my Ipsy subscription. I had to cancel it though because I’ve accumulated so much makeup that it was getting ridiculous! Hahaha

I’ve been sort of eh on coffee recently, and I think it’s the Keurig machine at work. I think it needs cleaned & has been churning out sort of gross burnt tasting coffee recently. Also, my work area gets morning sun & is always SO HOT in the morning – it makes it hard to enjoy hot coffee

Yay for your love of coffee coming back, when one of my strongest aversions during my first trimester was coffee- I was so sad I couldn’t get down a mug of coffee! Thankfully, it is back in my life 😉

Man, that is a tough decision…but I think the pancakes first 🙂

Pancakes? Cause pancakes make a really easy weekend breakfast! 🙂 And getting packages in the mail is amazing; it feels like Christmas all over again. That’s wonderful that you found some sunglasses that worked well; that’s kind of like me finding hats that fit me! It usually takes a long time, but when I do it’s like a huge victory. :)))

haha, dying over the FitBit tan line because for reals. I work from home as well and it’s a challenge to myself to get those hourly 250 steps in because once I’m sitting an engrossed in something I can be there for hours. Not moving for long periods of time isn’t good!

Have you tried setting an alarm to remind you every hour? It doesn’t take too long to get those steps in, and you can even just walk around your home to get them in… which is what I usually end up doing 😆

I’m kind of surprised you couldn’t get up to 20,000 steps in Vegas — then again, since it’s August, maybe I’m not!

Made the deep dish chocolate cookies today — using straight quick oats since I didn’t want to wake my husband & didn’t have enough oat flour — it makes a perfect muffin. 🙂

I have been wearing my Fitbit Charge HR religiously for over a year and I still love it! I love the sleep tracker too and it’s seriously made me so much more aware of how much I move during the day. Ipsy is awesome too! I cancelled it after like a year and a half but I love the little bags they come in:)

Your Ipsy box reminds me of my Birch boxes. I got them through June and I’m still working my way through all the great products. I even found a lipstick that I love.

I’m with you on Starbucks hot coffee being crazy strong. Have you tried the Blonde roast? It’s a less strong, lighter roast that is so, so good. Or try ordering a misto. It’s a cheaper version of a latte – half a cup of coffee topped with steamed milk!
