. thinking out loud #154 .

October 29, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 75 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve been able to do a properly random ToL post that wasn’t centred around travelling, meaning there’s a lot random life stuff to catch up on. Heck, I meant to tell you guys two weeks ago that I had to go out and buy a new power adaptor for my Macbook because my old one finally bit the dust. Remember this beauty?

Frayed Charger Cord

Despite my epic duct taping skills, it still got to a point where it just wouldn’t charge anymore. I am now $105 poorer and 1 working power adaptor richer. Ouch.

2. Speaking of power adaptors, I’m just a little paranoid about carrying this one around with me too much, meaning that my laptop battery life now dictates my office hours. Finished or not, it’s time to go home…

No Batteries

 3. And in other technology-related news, this happened…

No More Data

Between travelling and using my personal hotspot while hanging out at my parents’ wifi-less home on a few occasions, I managed to max out the data limit on my phone, and they cut me off as a result of it. That meant no browsing social media while I was out and about, no compulsive e-mail checking, and no texting friends [since I do most of it through iMessage] πŸ˜₯ Guys… I know they say disconnecting is great and all, but… it kind of really sucks… especially on days where I was out and didn’t have access to a wifi zone for 6+ hours. Thankfully my new billing month started and I have my data back, because my phone was basically dead weight for about a week and a half there.

4. Speaking of the phone, did you guys see the new emojis that came with the latest iOS update?!?! There’s over 150 of them, including the cheese one that everyone was obsessing over, a unicorn (my fave!), and even the middle finger πŸ˜† Definitely an update worth getting.

New Emojis

[source]

5. And guess who finally jumped on the Snapchat bandwagon?!? Mmm hmm. I probably should have done it a lot sooner considering someone took the social media handle I use for all my other accounts, but better late than never, right? I feel like Snapchat is a great way to share some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that doesn’t make it on the blog or Instagram, so follow me at runningspoons if you’d like to see more random real life happenings.

Spoons on Snapchat

6. You’d probably see me snapping about my newest addiction…

Naked Orange Juice

Naked juices. I know they (whoever “they” are) say that you’re supposed to avoid juices and eat whole foods instead, but sometimes nothing hits the spot like a cold and refreshing juice. And if it hits the spot then it satisfies, and if it satisfies then it means you’re not eating 3x the amount of something else and still feeling munchie. I see this all the time with people trying to stick to 100% clean eating… They won’t let themselves have the cookie they want, and end up eating twice as much in crackers or rice cakes instead. But that’s a rant for a whole other post…

7. The post! Don’t you hate it when this happens?

Missed FexEx

You miss the UPS or FedEx guy and then get a ten hour time window for when he’ll be coming back. Welcome to being a prisoner in your own home, because you can’t even run to the grocery store across the street to pick up milk in the off chance that that 5 minute window is exactly when he chooses to show up. Luckily mine came around 11am…

8. … and he came bearing gifts!

Bats & Boos

As an ambassador for Love Grown Foods, I’m super lucky to be able to try out their limited edition holiday products, and these Bats & Boos are just too.freaking.CUTE. You can find them in select stores, so keep an eye open and definitely pick up a box (or 5).

9. On that note… it’s Halloween this weekend! And that came out sounding way more enthusiastic than I actually feel. It’s been a good handful of years since I’ve really paid much attention to Halloween, and I don’t have any plans this year other than keeping up the annual tradition of watching The Nightmare Before Christmas and subjecting myself to the potential horrors of these Bean Boozled jelly beans. I’ll let you know how things go next week. Maybe I’ll even Snapchat it πŸ˜‰

Bean Boozled Beans

10. And before I say bye and tell you to have an awesome day, take a second to read this…

Hey You

Those BeanBoozled jellybeans are one of my favorite office games. Whenever people come in, I offer them a few jelly beans and sit back in anxious anticipation waiting for their disgusted reaction.

Excited to follow you on Snapchat! It’s so much fun. I guess…

Ohhhh you’re cruel! I’m having a hard time convincing people to play the game with me. They see “vomit” and “rotten egg” and it’s all over. And who are you on Snapchat? I’m still a nooblet with this thing…

Just added you on Snapchat! πŸ™‚

That FedEx thing drives me crazy!! I don’t have time to wait around ALL day for my package or drive across the city to pick it up if I miss it again. I prefer the Canada Post method of one delivery attempt and the UPS guy here is super nice and just leaves most of my junk on my step anyway (which is fine with me).

Aww – that last quote is too adorable – AND true!!!
Yay – glad you got a new cord – that old one made my palms sweaty just looking at it (good think I wasn’t handling it or I’d have been electrocuted by now!)
I am not on of those people that think fruit/veggies over juice, but Naked had some sort of lawsuit against it – it was some sort of class action suit about their controversial ingredients or something – people got paid big time!

Love all the randomness today! πŸ˜‰ It’s why TOLT is my favorite. I still haven’t jumped on the snapchat bandwagon, but let’s talk about who on earth would take your handle … really?! All of the new emojis are a little overwhelming – I mean, I had just (almost) figured out where they ones I used the most often were grouped, then it all changed! Thankful for that “recently used” page, but I am still not seeing a spoon in the new updates …

Thanks for hosting my favorite link up!

Oh I can’t stand when I get one of those Fedex/UPS slips! Especially because I’m out of the house all day during the week at work, so I have to hope that they offer an option to sign the back and stick it to the door.

Mine did come with that option, but I have no idea how I’d make it work seeing as I live in a closed-off condo and there’s no onsite office or doorman 😯

Love that last quote! I’m not big on snapchat anymore but I do enjoy watching peoples’ stories sometimes. It just eats away at my data so I only use it when I’m in a wifi zone. My boyfriend just got wifi after several months without it and there were definitely some angry texts from my parents when I was coming dangerously close to our data limit. I appreciate being unplugged- but I want it to be on my terms, not Verizon.

My hubby has been trying to get me on the snapchat train, so I think Im going to have to join. Lets be friends??
And my sissy played that nasty jelly belly game at her Halloween party. I looked out the window to check on them in the backyard and half of the kids were laughing while the other half were puking into a trashcan. Obviously they got the nasty ones!! πŸ™‚

The instructions on the tag (at least in Spoons’ pic) say to “Sign below for Signature Release Option” so if you sign the tag and leave it on your door they will leave the package the following day. I do this all the time and never had a problem.

Sucks about the data limit…doesn’t that just make you wonder how people got by 20 years ago without cell phones? So crazy that now we rely on them so much and it’s tough to get through a few hours without the internet in our hand! I don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad thing…it’s just a thing πŸ˜‰

Yeah I have no idea. I didn’t get a cellphone until I was 18, and it was probably still a good handful of years until I had one with an internet connection. It wasn’t so bad back then when EVERYONE was basically disconnected, but it sucks now when you’re the only one.

Since I don’t work, we do have to cut some corners. So we have cheap phones & a pretty limited plan, but the nice thing about it is you can adjust data — up or down — on the fly, as well as phone & text. Obviously we’re not power users.

There’s more I can relate to than I wish in this post – and by that I mean more unfortunate issues. Your broken cable would equate to my laptop not working properly anymore. It’s been wonky for months but the past few weeks things have gotten so bad I think we need to say goodbye for good. Only my bank account would rather we don’t …
And I’ve been getting the data limit notification more often the last few months, too. I can’t browse websites then but checking Instagram works a-okay – the pictures just won’t load ;).
Ona positive note while I have had my fair share of annoying post moments I waspleasantly surprised this week when a package I expected from US not only arrived within five days but I didn’t have to pick it up from customs.

Totally agree with you about juice- it may not have fibre but when it’s hot outside, nothing is more refreshing than a chilled glass (or bottle) of OJ! And heck YES about eating a small amount to satisfy a craving rather than ridiculous amounts of clean food.
