. thinking out loud #123 .

March 26, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 71 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. I had a mini freak out for a second there because I thought today was Friday and that I missed ToL ๐Ÿ˜ฏ My days have been all sorts of messed up ever since I left for vacation, and it looks like even staring at calendars and planners multiple times a day isn’t doing much to help. But at least I’m not jet lagged! I thought I would be because of the 4 hour time difference, but apparently it’s a lot easier on your body to travel west, so I haven’t had any trouble going to sleep and waking up at my normal times. Hooray!

Me and Mama Spoons

Also… no one comment about how much tanner my mom is than me. I swear I’m not as pale as I was!

2. And hooray for managing to unpack my entire suitcase in one day! It usually takes me a good week or so to get through the entire thing, but I emptied that sucker on Tuesday only to discover a pretty decent amount of sand lining the bottom. And that’s my biggest problem with the beach — the fact that sand gets everywhere. I definitely enjoyed playing around in the ocean while I was out there, but I prefer that sand stays on the beach and out of my shorts and bathing suit… *shudder*

Footprints in the Sand

3. This is why I’ll always be a mountain girl at heart and why I’ll be heading up there this weekend to do some snowboarding *happy dance* It’s been over a month since the last time I was able to go thanks to my back wonking out on me right before my last trip, so I’m really looking forward to going up there and doing some riding. And yes, it’s basically the polar opposite of where I just was, but it’s my favourite place in the world…

Sunshine Mountains2

4. Oh! I forgot to mention that I found Wilson! So in case you were worried about him after he abandoned ship in Cast Away and floated off into the ocean, you can sleep soundly knowing that he made it to Maui and is living it up on a whale watching and snorkelling boat. Lucky guy…

Wilson in Maui

5. Speaking of movies… has anyone seen Insurgent yet? I didn’t even know it came out in theatres until I heard it mentioned on the radio, and I was kind of disappointed to see it get such bad reviews. I’ll probably wait until it comes out on DVD, which really has nothing to do with the bad reviews and everything to do with the fact that I fail at going to see movies in the theatre. In fact, I can’t even recall the last one I watched on the big screen… But I did catch Interstellar [on a tiny screen] on my flight over to Maui! I thought it was fantastic, but I’m going to need someone to explain the ending to me ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Interstellar in the Air

6. And because I really want to share some more whale watching pictures…

Humback Whale

Humback Whale2

Humback Whale Tail

Humback Whale5

Humback Whale4

7. And a picture of my puppy [who’s not really a puppy] since I didn’t get a chance to see her on National Puppy Day…

Cold Kaiah

8. Also, Starbucks has gone to the birds… And that wasn’t even half of them!

Starbucks Sparrows

9. So you know when you use a really great smelling shampoo or conditioner in your hair and you’re treated to random wafts of the scent throughout the day? The same can be said of not-so-great smelling products. I love what the R&B hair moisturizer from Lush does to my hair, but I just can’t with the smell. I put it on 8 hours ago and I can still smell it. Save.me.

Lush Buys

10. So I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted a recipe for you guys, and I promise that I’ll be getting back to it. I decided to ease up this month since I was travelling and I was starting to feel a little burnt out, but the recipes will be back on Spoons asap. In the meantime, you can check out this Creamy Carrot Cake Smoothie that I posted over on Savory Style!

I think it is so sad how terrible the Divergent movies have been so far. I absolutely loved the books, but the films just feel like a wannabe / low budget Hunger Games.

I’m just glad that my facial scrub from LUSH doesn’t smell like vodka. Because…that’s in there. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Mama Spoons is so beautiful!! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed your trip to Maui… I hope to experience it soon and I’m fairly certain it would become my new favorite island. I wonder if the islands each have their own vibe? Are you guys going to head back to Hawaii again next year? Big Island??? ๐Ÿ™‚

They definitely have their own vibe! Oahu was a little too commercialized for me, and Kauai was a little too quiet. I found Maui to be the best of both worlds, and it had a really laid back and chill vibe. Loved it. And if we -do- decide to go back to the islands next year, I’m pretty sure that Big Island will be next! I’m kind of hoping the volcano will still be active so I can see some of that ๐Ÿ˜€

Jet lag is the worst…so glad you don’t have it! It is hard enough to stay on a routine after vacation, add in het lag and it takes a good week to get on track! I HAVE to unpack my suitcase as soon as I am in the door. I can’t stand living out of a suitcase!

Ok -so is it just me or do you look a lot like your mom (don’t hate me, but I thought she was your cousin as I know you don’t have a sis)?
I saw Insurgent and I must be part of the minority as I really liked it! It wasn’t exactly like the book – but it wasn’t dragged out like Mockingjay part 1 was either – at least, that’s my two cents.

We -do- look a lot alike, eh? People actually ask us all the time if we’re sisters or cousins, especially when I wear my hair up! And when I look at pictures of her from when she was my age, it’s like I’m looking at myself…

Your mom is SO tan!!! Super jealous. Your hawaii pictures have me dreaming of a tropical vacation to just about anywhere. I’m with you on the sand though. That’s what I loved about living on my boat for so long. I didn’t have to deal with the sand but I had all the same benefits of the ocean. It was the best of both worlds. The less sand that sticks around, the better. I’ve been wanting to see Interstellar for awhile– I need to watch it!

Love the photos of the whales! Makes me want to jump on a plane! We saw Insurgent Tuesday night and I thought it was really good. My son (16) said it was too predictable, but I read the books and I still enjoyed it. Yes, they strayed from the book, but I thought it was still very well done. I was bummed that it got such bad reviews. I am looking forward to Alligent coming out. I heard they are making the last one into 2 films. That seems to be the trend now.
Glad you’re home and that your days are getting back on track!

Mountains are really appealing to me. I love in Florida so a) I’ve never seen them and b) I’m not much of a beach person either. Sand is gritty and. Nasty.

In the winter I bring home the salt and sand from the snowy mess outside and in the summer, I am forever dealing with the beach that comes home on our feet and in our beach bags. Especially from my son, it’s the worst! He literally brings the beach home with him.
