. thinking out loud #157 .

November 19, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 89 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. A quick order of business before we get into today’s randomness –> I’ve had a few people tell me that Spoons has been loading slowly for them, and I’m having a hard time figuring out why since I haven’t made any changes or had any issues on any of my own devices. I think it might have something to do with a specific ad code not meshing with a certain type of browser, but I can’t discern much beyond that. So if you’re having those problems, could you let me know which browser you’re using and if you have the same issue with any other blogs? That way I can figure out if it is indeed a specific type of ad, and go about axing it. Much love!

2. Speaking of love… guess who’s going to the mountains this weekend?!?! This girl!!

Colourless Mountains

Despite the fact that it has yet to snow in my neck of the woods (this is crazy — it usually snows by the end of October), the mountains have been getting a decent amount of the powdery white stuff, which means I can finally enjoy my first ride of the season. I’m doubly excited because I’ve been doing a decent amount of cross-training this summer, so I’m curious to see if it’ll make a difference in my riding.

 3. Oh! And if you want to keep up with my mountain shenanigans and get bombarded with tonnes of pictures and videos of our gorgeous Rockies, be sure to follow me on Snapchat (runningspoons), because I tend to go a little snap crazy when I’m out there.

Snapping Spoons

4. And speaking of going crazy… thats what I may have done in Sephora last weekend. Or on Sephora.com, I guess, since I didn’t feel like heading out to the malls to take advantage of the VIB sale and did my shopping online instead. Side note –> anyone else not really enjoy going to the mall? I swear it tires me out even more than going for a run. But I digress.

Like I said, I may have gone a little overboard, but between restocking on some staples and picking up a few wish-list items that I’ve been holding off on for a while… things added up. I’m not 100% sure when I’ll get my package, but I’ll definitely share when I do!

5. In other shopping-related news, I’ve had a few people ask me where I get my dates from since I use them in so many of my recipes, and the answer is Costco! I forget exactly how much they are, but you can pick up a 2lb. tub of juicy Medjool dates for a pretty good price! Or better yet… pick up three ๐Ÿ˜‰

SunDate Medjool Dates

6. Oh! And this one is for all my fellow Canadians who love the Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride tea from Celestial Seasonings and hate that it’s not available in Canada… or at least that it wasn’t. I’m not sure if this was a fluke, but I found some in Safeway (along with all the other CS holiday teas), so hopefully that means they’re carrying it in stores across the country, because that stuff is good.

Sugar Cookie Tea

7. And so are these coffee pods from OneCoffee…

OneCoffee Pod

You use them in your Keurig just like you would a K-Cup, but I swear they taste closer to regular brewed coffee than most other K-Cups. From the site… “Our soft pods provide more of a โ€œFrench Pressโ€ experience. Thereโ€™s more surface area to extract the aroma and flavour of the coffee. The coffee smells better and tastes better because more water is in contact with the coffee grinds.” Who knew! And I love that the coffee is organic and that the pods are biodegradable.

8. I also love random facts…

RF Jellyfish Eggs

RF Living in Hogwarts

RF Weird Lobsters

RF Nintendo Developer

Rf Chocolate Melting

1. Because that’s practical. And vegan ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
2. Confession: I’ve never read any of the Harry Potter books, so I have no idea what this means. I assume it’s a big deal for HP fans, though?
3. … do not Google “lobster teeth” ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
4. The kind of thing nightmares are made of. I was chased by a turkey when I was little, and I don’t think I ever got over it.
5. Even dark chocolate? Because I feel like that’s not as melty. Actually, I’m not entirely sure. I should go test it…

9. And this song…

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm0W-zW0Smk&w=640&h=427″]

10. Happy Thursday, friendly faces! Stay awesome ๐Ÿ˜€

As the comment says above, I have problems loading both your and Arman’s blogs. Same issues as Lauren described. Takes many times and tries to get through the entire blog…..but the blog is so good, it’s worth it! Dang, I wish dates didn’t give me tummy aches! Love them.

I have only ever put dates in a recipe (always your recipes, because they are the tastiest) and have never actually tried one on it’s own… do people eat dates plain, not whipped into cookies and brownies and protein bars?! I assume they do, but now I want to know what it tastes like and if I would like it! I love that they help make your recipes GF though ๐Ÿ™‚ Yay for the mountains! This is truly the most wonderful time of the year!

Dates are amazing on their own! They’re soft and gooey and taste like caramel — I think you’d love them! They’re especially good when paired with a nut butter or chocolate. OR you can freeze them to really give them more of a harder caramel texture.

I found my sugar cookie tea at Nesters in Banff of all places! I second the website loading issues – it’s been loading super slow & freezing.

Online shopper for life…. the mall is too much!!

In regards to the site loading issues, I have noticed for awhile that Spoon’s and Arman’s site both are frustrating to load using Bloglovin’. Once I click (more…) to read past your intro both sites launch fine, but will constantly refresh whenever I try to scroll down. It’s so frustrating …. Hope it’s something you can fix easily!

That’s so bizarre, and I have no idea why might be causing it. But I let my network know, so hopefully they can get back to me with something useful! Thanks, Lauren.

i only like going to the mall if i can find a parking space close to the front and its not crowded (which is like never) otherwise its freaking exhausting!!!! You should really read Harry Potter they are fantastic books! I put off reading them until the 6th book came out then I binge read all of them in like a month. I cant envision how they are going to turn the great hall into condos, that kinda defeats the purpose I think. The great hall is like a giant dining hall.

I dont have issues with your blog loading, but you say you haven’t done any changes? Your blog is now completely white instead of bordered with that pink color. At least it is for me! Don’t know if you did that on purpose or not ๐Ÿ™‚
I hope you have a super great time in the mountains!! I can’t wait to head out and see some snow. Unfortunetly since my hubby and I never had snow in LA we don’t have any snow gear!

Ehehe the white background was on purpose ๐Ÿ˜› I just thought it made things look a little cleaner, which will probably work better for recipe pictures. But I haven’t messed with any of the ad codes! So that’s why it’s completely boggling my mind.

The only time I go to the mall is if I need something quickly, or have to try something on. It’s seems like such a hassle, especially this time of year. If I have to go to the mall, I’ll go right when it opens so I can get in/get out without too much of a headache.

Going to the mall is fun unless you come accross the kind of shopping assistant who wants to show you everything in the shop. The truth is this never increases my chances of buying stuff. It actually sends my anxiety level through the roof and even if I’ve liked something, I just go home and order it online.

I’m not sure how exactly jellyfish would work as an egg unless you blend it first and this sounds gross. I’ve eaten jellyfish and it’s weird and… crunchy. I can’t imagine putting it in my cookie dough. Nope.

What I see: “Do not google this.”
How my brain translates it: “Do it. Nao!”
It wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected.
