. thinking out loud #114 .

January 22, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 65 Comments

Happy #thinkingoutloud Thursday! No idea what I’m going on about? Click here!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Just a quick heads up for all my blogger friends who are looking to go self-hosted this year! Bluehost* is having a pretty sweet sale to kick off the new year, and from now until January 31 at 11:59 EST, you can sign up for awesome web hosting for as low as $3.95 per month — that’s less than a fancy cup of coffee from Starbucks! So if you’ve been thinking about starting a blog or switching over to self-hosting, now is definitely a great time to do it! You can check out this post to see why I recommend it, or head over to Bluehost* to learn more.

(* affiliate links — thanks so much for your support!)

2. Aaaaaand if you’re not a blogger or currently in the market for a new self-hosting company, then maybe I can interest you in a smoothie instead? I recently whipped up this Honey Oat Strawberry Smoothie for Savory Style, and I kind of think you should go check it out because the combination of honey, oats, strawberries, and banana is basically to.die.for.

Honey Oat Strawberry Smoothie

3. As are these adorable heart-shaped page markers/bookmarts that you can make from Post-It notes.

Post-It Hearts

Remember how I mentioned that my new Erin Condren planner has been inspiring all sorts of creativity in me? Well, I’ve been Googling, YouTubing, and Pinteresting DIY craft and decoration ideas like a madwoman lately, and I came across this DIY Crafts with Post-It Notes video which included those little hearts (starts around the 5 minute mark). Needless to say, I currently have about 50 of them lying around (they’re fun to make!), and I’ve been putting them everywhere.

4. On the topic of planners, check out this gem that I came across while looking through some old things at my parents’ place this past weekend…

Dinky Diary

My old Dinky Diary! Aka: what was probably the first planner/diary I ever kept. This guy dates all the way back to 1993 (I was 8 years old), and includes precious gems like…

Top Secret Diary

And…

Old Diary Entries

Oh.Man πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

5. In other throwback news, Smells Like Teen Spirit (which was released in 91!!) came on the radio while I was in my car the other day and I’m not ashamed to admit that I had a full-blown, one-(wo)man, head-bangin’ dance party/rock concert right then and there. Helloooooo anthem of my overly-dramatic teenage (angst) years.

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg&w=640&h=480″]

6. Back to present day. I bought an electric milk frother. I was using a hand-held one for a little over a year prior to that, but it wasn’t really giving me the kind of froth that I wanted… so I splurged on a Milk CafΓ© from Breville. Socks = rocked. Nothing like being able to make a creamy almond milk cappuccino or latte from the comfort of your own home. Foam for dayssssssss.

Thick and Creamy Almond Milk Froth

7. And while we’re on the topic of handy, dandy technology, can someone please invent a Ctrl+F (aka: find) function for our eyeballs? So that it’s easier to locate the things we need in textbooks? It’s kind of sad to admit the extent of my reliance on computers, but I may or may not have thought to myself “oh, I’ll just ctrl+F it” on more than one occasion while reading a textbook… only to realize that I.can’t.do.that.

8. I can’t handle the ending to Golden Son either. Am I seriously supposed to wait another year to find out what happens with an ending like that?! I might have to try my luck at bribing Brown for some deets because oh.my.god I want to know now. I’m not good with cliffhangers, and this most definitely left me hanging.

Golden Son

9. I also want to know who’s going to Blend Retreat this year! Registration opened up this past Sunday, and after having such a great time last year, I decided I’d be heading back again this year. So let me know if you’re going because I want to meet ALL the bloggers!

Blend Retreat 2015

10. Until then, you can find me in the mountains. I’ll be heading up again this weekend to go snowboarding and partake in some Jasper in January festivities, and I can.not.WAIT.

Bye! πŸ˜€

Have an amazing time in Jasper! I actually just spontaneously decided to come home / to the mountains in a few weeks, but sadly not until February. πŸ™ You definitely have the right idea though, taking advantage of all this beautiful weather! It’s pretty much the same temps in Vancouver as it is in Edmonton, but it’s raining here. womp womp.

That diary is so cute! I love finding bits like that when I go home (is it odd that I still refer to my parents house as home?? Guess it will always be home!)
Oh how I wish I could go to blend – I feel like one of those kids that isn’t able to go on the special school trip that everyone is talking about

The ending to Golden Son, OMG. How HOW am I supposed to wait until the next book?! Ugh.

I really wanted to go to Blend this year, but I have a gazillion trips booked that kind of snuck up on me, so I’ll be in Calgary celebrating my birthday by watching Pitch Perfect 2. It’s so nice of them to release that movie over my birthday weekend πŸ™‚

That Breville milk frother looks great! Did you find it up here in Canada and if so where? I was looking at a Starbucks branded one at the Bay but the reviews on it were terrible, saying it broke down after a few uses.

    Happy Thursday!

Awww your first planner/diary. My first diary was in a planner, too. I have no idea where it is, unfortunately. I’ve been keeping a diary ever since then. I’ve probably got over 40 diaries that I’ve filled up with thoughts, rants, and worries…

I love your TOL. I am thinking about moving to self hosted so thanks for the heads up. Also I need that smoothie in my life. I kept diaries from when I was young and still have them at home. It’s hilarious to go back and read what were the big problems in my life when I was ten.

Okay. I’m finally in a position where I can try to make some of your amazing creations. So this morning I made the strawberry oat honey smoothie. OMG. You are a genius. It is SO GOOD. I’ve honestly never put raw oats in a smoothie, but man…it definitely helps to fill you up! I did add spinach, because, you know, need the greens, but BRAVO! Love it. love it love it love it.

I absolutely love that you still have your childhood journal. I really wish I still had my diary. I think at some point, I was so embarrassed by what I wrote in middle school that I threw it out. Ugh. Now that I am older, I think I have kept every single planner from the last decade. It’s always fun to look back, see where I traveled and what life was like a few years ago… especially those days when I am overwhelmed. It’s a nice way to remind yourself of how far you have come over the years!

Wow that hosting sounds great! I pay more than twice that for my hosting for the year… πŸ™ I looked into moving hosts once and it sounded like such a pain that I decided it was worth the higher price. Still makes me mad!

That old planner is hilarious. I wish I had some old stuff of mine when i was a kid!

Wow, looks like you are on smoothie kick πŸ™‚ The ingredients sound really good so I will definitely check out the recipe!

Buying an electric milk frother changed my mornings. I have a Nespresso coffee machine and I recently bought the Nespresso Aeroccino Milk Frother. It makes perfect cappuccinos (and I’m Italian so I take my cappuccinos really seriously^^).

Have fun at Blend! I wish I could meet you in person! You should come to Switzerland so we could have cappuccinos with Lucie!

Bluehost so totally rocks – I had some -what I thought were heart stopping- issues with my site and they were so wonderful – had things up and running in 0-4 seconds!!!
Speaking of rocking – so do milk frothers – I ended up buying one too recently and I haven’t been giving Starbucks the love I used to pre-milk frother!
And – also speaking of rocking – I will raise my almond milk froth cuppa to you – keep up the one woo-man head banging sessions, lady! Happy happy Thursday!

I’m so impressed at that almond milk foam. I always avoid adding it to hot coffee but I think I need to give it a shot.
