. playing favourites .

May 19, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 99 Comments

The only thing better than a weekend is a long weekend… Happy Victoria Day to my fellow Canadians! This probably wouldn’t be the best time to admit that I have no idea what Victoria Day is all about, buuuuuuut I do appreciate the extra day off regardless πŸ˜€ Edit: I felt like a bad Canadian so I just Googled it and apparently Victoria Day is “a federal Canadian public holiday celebrated on the last Monday before May 25, in honour of Queen Victoria’s birthday.” Yay!

Seeing as it’s a holiday and all, I thought I’d keep things on the lighter side here on Spoons. You guys know I’m a sucker for surveys, and I recently came across one over on Courtney’s blog that looked like it would be fun. So without further ado… some of my favourites πŸ˜€

Name your favourite…

Person… You πŸ˜‰

Colour… I honestly can’t say that I have one. I like yellow bananas, red cars, blue skies, black clothes, white mountains, green grass, orange leaves, and brown chocolate. It depends on what I’m looking at.

Food… I could probably live off almond butter — I put that sh*t on everything…

Almond Butter Love

Smell… Coffee! I’ve actually always loved the smell of coffee, even back in the day when I couldn’t tolerate the taste. I didn’t start drinking it regularly until my first year of university, and I remember thinking it tasted like tar that’s been scraped from the walls of a sewage pipe. Oh how things have changed…

Chocolate Coffee

Book… Impossible. There’s no way to choose one favourite book — I love too many.

Movie… Beauty & The Beast. I love all Disney movies in general, but Beauty & The Beast will always hold the number one spot in my heart… and Belle is my favourite Disney princess.

Time of day… The early morning. Peace, quiet, and breakfast πŸ˜‰

Early Morning Sun

Day of the week… Friday. Enough structure to make me feel productive with that beautiful promise of freedom waiting at the end.

Thing to do when bored… I don’t know if I would say that I ever really get bored anymore, but if I’m stuck in traffic or waiting in line then I’ll usually whip out the Candy Crush to pass the time…

Candy Crush

Celebrity… I would normally say Johnny Depp, but Leonardo DiCaprio has been a long time favourite that’s been capturing my attention a lot more lately, so I’ll go with him this time around.

Drink… Coffeeeeeeeeeeee.

TV show… I’m completely out of the loop when it comes to current TV shows, but I think that Gossip Girl will always be my #1. Might be time to bust out the DVDs again.

Gossip Girl

Fruit… Bananas. I can’t even remember the last time I went a day without at least one — usually more.

Vegetable… The orange squash responsible for my lovely “glow” — kabocha.

Roasted Kabocha

Store/shop… Sephora. We’re not even going to talk about how much money I’ve spent there.

Workout… Anything that doesn’t feel like a workout. I may end up back in a gym one day, but for now I enjoy just being active in general without measuring anything like time, distance, weights, etc.

Snowboard-Strapping-In

Quote… This one!

“There is a time in every man’s education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide.“

Well said, Ralph Waldo Emerson… well said indeed.

Boy’s name… I’m gonna go withhhhhh… Ben.

Girl’s name… Amanda, obviously πŸ˜‰

Potato chip flavour… Sour cream & onion. Or plain, if they have the crinkle cut.

Meal of the day… That would be breakfast; all day, preferably.

ABJ Oats

Ice cream flavour… I’m a simple vanilla kind of girl. Classic, delicious, and the perfect base for whatever toppings you want to throw in there.

Season… I love everything about fall. The colours, the smells, the flavours, and the much appreciated chance to slow down after the high energy of summer. The only downside is the looming threat of winter.

Dessert… Three words: chocolate.freaking.CAKE.

Delicious Birthday Cake

Lifehack… Did you know… that you can soften rock hard brown sugar by putting it in a container, wetting a dish towel, and placing the damp towel over the opening of the container? Over time, the sugar will absorb the moisture from the cloth and all you have to do is fluff it up with a fork and it’ll be as good as new!

Signature

Pick a handful and tell me YOUR favourites! πŸ˜€

Sometimes, it scares me with how similar we are, but hey! It is totally okay with me! I’m starting to get better at tolerating coffee (which I’m excited about!), but I’ve always loved the smell. Belle is definitely my princess as well!
And mornings have become my new favorite. I changed around my daily schedule so I could get up and go to CrossFit early and still enjoy the “early” morning. And lastly, to finish off my rambling comment, Gossip Girl holds a special place for me as well, and I think once I finish the season of Scandal they just added, I’m going to restart it!

Victoria Day? I’ve never ever heard of such a thing. But long weekends are always welcomed with open-arms. I’m glad your enjoyed your extra day off!

I rarely watch TV (ahem, I have no cable) but Gossip Girl will forever be my weakness. I have almost every season on DVD and re-watch them regularly. #sorrynotsorry

Almond butter, the smell of freshly brewed coffee, cake…yes, yes, and yes. (:

I miss Gossip Girl! And The OC. And Gilmore Girls. Sigh. Those were the days of good tv…

Also we are total potato chip twins. Sour cream and onion is my favourite flavour too! And I only like plain if they are crinkle cut AND if there is French onion dip around. πŸ˜‰

Seriously, the smell of coffee is one of life’s greatest things…in fact, if it was perfectly acceptable, I would wear coffee aftershave. Wait..why isn’t it acceptable πŸ˜‰

Sour cream and onion chips? Just go be besties with my mum. She loves those, and in Iran, you dip them in must moussir (garlic sour cream!). Go kiss someone after..

My life feels complete with that brown sugar fun fact. HAHA. I love love love the smell of coffee, and I kinda love that I come home smelling like coffee. It could be worse right!? When I got my hair cut my hairdresser said to me as she was washing my hair, “Hmm, you smell like coffee shop.” I was like, “WELL ABOUT THAT!” hahaha.

    Gaston:
Who does she think she is?
That girl has tangled with the wrong man!
    LeFou:
    Darn right.
    Gaston:
No one says “no” to Gaston!
    Dismissed! Rejected!
Publicly humiliated! Why, it’s more than I can bear.
    LeFou:
    More beer?
    Gaston:
What for? Nothing helps. I’m disgraced.
    LeFou:
Who, you? Never! Gaston, you’ve got to pull yourself together.
    Lefou:
Gosh it disturbs me to see you, Gaston
Looking so down in the dumps
Ev’ry guy here’d love to be you, Gaston
    Even when taking your lumps
There’s no man in town as admired as you
    You’re ev’ryone’s favorite guy
Ev’ryone’s awed and inspired by you
And it’s not very hard to see why
    No one’s slick as Gaston
    No one’s quick as Gaston
No one’s neck’s as incredibly thick as Gaston’s
For there’s no man in town half as manly
    Perfect, a pure paragon!
You can ask any Tom, Dick or Stanley
And they’ll tell you whose team they prefer to be on
    Lefou and Chorus:
    No one’s been like Gaston
    A king pin like Gaston
    LeFou:
No one’s got a swell cleft in his chin like Gaston
    Gaston:
As a specimen, yes, I’m intimidating!
    Lefou and Chorus:
My what a guy, that Gaston!
    Give five “hurrahs!”
    Give twelve “hip-hips!”
    LeFou:
    Gaston is the best
And the rest is all drips
    Chorus:
    No one fights like Gaston
    Douses lights like Gaston
    LeFou:
In a wrestling match nobody bites like Gaston!
    Bimbettes:
For there’s no one as burly and brawny
    Gaston:
As you see I’ve got biceps to spare
    LeFou:
Not a bit of him’s scraggly or scrawny
    Gaston:
    That’s right!
And ev’ry last inch of me’s covered with hair!

I’m with you on the coffee. I love it! I didn’t start drinking it either until college. Guess that’s what kept us going:) I’m addicted to playing candy crush too. I’m one of those that change the dates ahead just so I can continue playing at times so I don’t have to wait for more lives. Favorite t.v. show has to be Sex and the City. Ok, your life hack tip would have been SUPER helpful Saturday morning, when I found my brown sugar to be SOLID.ROCK. My solution? Dumped it into a bowl and pounded at it with a beater and slowly chipped away pieces. It eventually got into small enough chunks that I could crush back into powder. Oh the things I do to bake πŸ˜‰

πŸ˜† I’ve done that before too, but the problem with that approach is that it lacks the moisture so whatever you’re baking doesn’t end up as moist. Too many details 😑
