. favourite fall recipes .

September 27, 2013 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 60 Comments

Aaaaand cue the Friday happy dance! 😀

Although I have to admit that the fact that it’s Friday is somewhat bittersweet for me – it just means that it’ll be time to head back home soon, and I’m not quite sure that I’m ready to say goodbye to BC…

Coffee in the Bay

I am, however, ready to say goodbye to extended periods of sitting in the car, especially when they involve driving on a “highway” that’s so twisty and hilly that the max speed in a lot of stretches is about 40 kph (25 mph). And I wouldn’t mind having access to a kitchen again… As tasty as food on the road can be, there’s something to be said about a warm home-cooked meal, especially around this time of the year.

I was browsing through my recipes here on Spoons the other day, when I realized that a good chunk of them are centered around fall flavours. Apparently, I just get inspired to get back into the kitchen around this time of the year, so I thought I’d put together a small collection of my fall recipes in case you find yourself itching to spend some time in a warm, cozy kitchen as the weather starts to cool off, too.

Oh gosh I love fall flavors. Ok I lied, I just love hot food. I’m seriously dreaming of the days when all I eat is soup and oats and sip tea or coffee. I’m so weird. I have to admit though Im not really a pumpkin soup or chili kinda girl. I have actually never tried a squash soup so maybe I’d like that, but for some reason I prefer my pumpkin in a more sugary form like in breads, muffins, drinks, ect.

You could have plenty of hot food days if you lived up in Canada 😉 It’s seriously not even a problem to eat that kind of food in the middle of summer.

I need to check out your soup recipe – I’ve been craving a good pumpkin soup lately or squash soup lately! And homemade applesauce is one of the many awesome things that you’ve led me too…I’m still trying to get through all that applesauce from HLS so I can make some homemade.

Oh my everything looks so good! I want to make it all! I’m with you on riding in the car. I never used to mind it too much and actually drove across country from Northern Cali to the Florida Keys but now I hate it! I get car sick and so bored! Safe travels home!

Your pictures are AMAZING. Seriously- I regret only doing Toronto when I visited Canada! Oh well, next year 😉

Tonight on the menu is take 3 of the pumpkin tortilla pizza – and I will be incredibly careful with the camera (it smells like hummus now). And as for food prep for next week- the chocolate chip pumpkin bread looks like a winner! Savour the last few moments in scenic serenity 😉

Toronto is the only place I visited in Eastern Canada, but I have to say that the West coast is kind of gorgeous 😉 And I still can’t help but laugh over the fact that you dropped your camera in hummus. Foodie probs…

My favorite baked goods are in the fall. Comfort cakes and breads > crisps + meringues any day! I tried to make a pumpkin scramble this weekend and it came out less than steller. I’ll have to try to copy you recipe step by step! And I’m a huge fan of road trips but the first meal I want when I come home is ALWAYS oatmeal. It never fails.

I wish I could take a road trip to you!!! LOL only 36 hours away.

I love cooking at this time of year too, there’s something about knocking up something in the kitchen with the oven on and eating a nice hot dinner after work! 🙂 I’m not a fan of cooked apple, so that writes off lots of recipes for me, but your pumpkin recipes look great!
