. blends are lifesavers .

April 7, 2014 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 68 Comments

Sometimes things just don’t go according to plan. Yesterday I mentioned that I had a fun and somewhat different post planned for you guys today, and then life decided to jump in and have a good laugh at my efforts (read: major SNAFU). I might have still been able to pull it off, but it probably would have ended up being rushed and half-assed, which isn’t exactly the look I’m going for. It’ll still happen, but probably some time next week.

I learned two very important lessons from this whole ordeal. First, while you may be able to get away with procrastinating on a lot of occasions, it will eventually bite you in the ass — don’t do it. Second, blends are lifesavers. The lovely Cait tagged me with the Liebster award last week, and while I was planning on filling it out anyways, I had to do a little bit of rescheduling and move the date up. This isn’t the first time that blends have saved me in the midst of a blogging fiasco — I honestly don’t know what I’d do without them.

Liebster

Here are Cait’s questions…

1. What would be your dream living location {in the US}?
… but I like living in Canada. I don’t really feel like I can answer this question fairly since there are so many places in the States that I haven’t been… especially when it comes to the east coast. That being said, I’ve done a lot of road tripping down the west coast, and I wouldn’t mind living somewhere in Oregon or the Bay area.

2. What’s your go-to way to unwind from a busy day/week?
Treating myself to an at home spa night. After spending so much time on everything/everyone else, it’s nice to be able to spend a little time on myself. I’ll light some candles, run a bath, toss in a bath bomb from Lush, throw on a DIY facial mask, and relax for a while before jumping in my PJs, whipping up a cup of hot chocolate, and giving myself a mani/pedi while watching a movie. Good times.

DIY Face Mask

3. What’s something you always have in your pantry?
My hands πŸ˜† I’m a serious snacker, and since I work from home and have a standing desk set up about 5 feet from my pantry, sometimes I feel like I’m in there more often than not. But if we’re talking strictly food items in my pantry, then I’m going to go with almond butter and oats — their presence is non-negotiable and emergency grocery store runs will be made if either supply runs low.

Almond Honey Oats

4. If you’re going to the movies, what do you choose? Something sweet, sour, or salty?
Definitely not sour — I had a bad experience with a bag of Sour Skittles a handful of years back and I’ll never touch the stuff again. That being said, I love gummy/fruity candies, so I’ll usually go for a bag of bears or jelly beans. Oh! Or Junior Mints! I wouldn’t even necessarily say that I like them, but for some reason I always get hit with a craving when I set foot into a movie theatre. In short… sweet, always sweet.

Gummy Craving

5. Favourite cuisine to celebrate something over?
Is it weird that I don’t really care to celebrate over dinner? It’s not that I don’t enjoy it… it’s just that I only see it as a formality before dessert πŸ˜‰ Celebrations call for ice cream.

Ice Cream Goodness

6. Quiet night at home or night on the town?
While I usually prefer quiet nights at home, I definitely need the occasional night out — balance. I don’t have the stamina that I had in my late teens and early twenties so I’m usually more than done by 11:30, but I’m the Dancing Queen until that happens.

7. Why did you start your blog?
Honestly? Originally as a way to distract myself while I recovered from my eating disorder. I had been reading blogs for a while and I really wanted to be part of the supportive community that I saw online. I fell in love with the creative outlet that blogging provided me with, as well as the amazing people it introduced me to. Publishing that first post was definitely one of the best decisions I ever made… as was coming back after disappearing for a while.

Computer Time With Mom

8. Favourite reality show?
Sometimes I feel like I’m one of the only people who doesn’t watch reality TV… which is especially awkward when everyone is talking about the latest happenings in The Bachelor and you have no idea who Juan Pablo is or what he did to piss everyone off 😯 I think the only show I’ve ever caught more than once or twice has been The Kardashians, so I guess I’ll go with that one.

9. What are three things you always have in your purse?
Besides the obvious things like my keys, phone, and wallet? Gum, chapstick, and snacks. Gum because my mouth gets bored, chapstick because there’s nothing more annoying than dry lips, and snacks because there’s nothing scarier than a hungry Amanda. I’m kind of OCD about keeping my purse clean so you won’t usually find anything strange in there. That being said, there was that one time with the lemon…

Purse Essentials

10. Go-to summer cocktail?
I’m going to go with sangria on this one… you know me and my sweet tooth.

11. What’s something you hope to gain or do in 2014?
I want to keep growing Spoons, get my health coaching business up and running, go back for more school, and keep living and loving life πŸ˜€

. – . – . – .

I’m technically supposed to tag a few people, but I don’t want to have to choose so I’m just going to go ahead and tag anyone reading πŸ˜€ Hope you guys are having a great day! And I’ll see you tomorrow with a recipe for something I teased you with on Instagram a few days back πŸ˜‰

What a fun post! I’ve given up on trying to plan life, which is good because I’m terrible at planning anyway! We always have peanut butter in our pantry although it disappears a lot faster now that our dog is eating it too! I’m a total Nibs girl at the movies and I do like sour candies, but only because they force me to slow down and I don’t end up eating as many. And I prefer to celebrate with dessert too…and wine πŸ™‚

Oh yes, ALWAYS almond butter in my pantry. I actually get into panic mode when I have 2 full jars left πŸ™‚
And I love jelly beans! We can only buy them at ONE store here in Switzerland, but you bet I do the effort to stock up on them.
THough gum – I can not have it in my purse. Seriously, I can eat 3 packs a day easily. All that Aspartam…geeeze. So I had to stop buying them and hope I can scrounge from someone else if I am craving one.

What schooling are you interested in going back for this year? I’m actually seriously considering getting my personal training certification – I think it’d be fun/wise to learn the science behind how/why our body functions to pair with my nutrition knowledge.

My favorite movie snack is Sour Skittles. I wish you hadn’t of had a bad experience with them. Typically, I’ll choose something sweet and chocolaty, but for movies I just have to have Sour Skittles. Oats and peanut butter are both must-haves in my pantry as well as bananas. If I don’t have any of those I freak out for a bit then go to the store.

“get my health coaching business up and running” <- Exciting times for you! I hope you'll sahre the details on that one soon!
A few items you'll always find in my pantry? Clearly oat bran, almond butter, coconut flour, cocoa and now – thanks to you getting me obsessed with the combination of AB and it: honey. Seriously, why did I not try this any earlier?! It's addictive. Dare I say almost rivalling chocolate? But just almost.

I always have Almond butter, salsa (for my eggs), and Nature’s Path Flax Plus Multibran Flakes. I am obsessed with this cereal! I love adding banana and almond milk to it. Such a delicious breakfast!

I usually don’t allow myself to eat anything at the theater (I chew gum), but in a perfect world, I would choose buttered popcorn every time! Thank God for the creation of Skinny Pop!

You need to teach me how to keep my purse clean…I bought a new one over the weekend so I emptied out my old one, and yikes…no wonder the strap broke, I had so much crap in there (and receipts. Why they hell do I always save receipts?).
Movie snacks? A few years back a friend introduced me to the wonder that is movie popcorn with a bag of peanut M&Ms thrown in, so that’s got to be my favourite. But considering that I’d rather bring a snack than buy one because I’m cheap, I’d go with chocolate covered almonds, chocolate covered pretzels or M&Ms.
I do like sour candy, but I can only handle a handful or two.

I alllways have nut butter in my pantry (even though I usually keep it in the fridge). And I always have extra gum there (yes, my mouth gets bored too, and it’s better than me eating out of boredom haha).

Favorite movie snack used to be Twizzlers, but then I’d eat so many in the theater, which was never good! haha. So I’ll have to go with my favorite salty white gourmet popcorn (yes a theater near me offers that! It’s SO GOOD)

I like sour candy, but I really have to be in the mood for it. I’m more of a chocolate person.

And agreed, Sangria is THE BEST summer cocktail πŸ™‚ Helps the Dancing Queen come out! πŸ˜€
