. as we speak… in the mountains [yet again] .

April 13, 2015 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 61 Comments

Once upon at time, there was a girl who hated posting selfies of herself online… mostly because she felt awkward taking them. She figured it would be a good idea to get over her aversion since she was a blogger and that was a great way to add a little personal touch, so she challenged herself to write a post full of nothing but selfies (followed by another, and another, and another), and found that she actually kind of enjoyed it. Seeing as it had been a while since her last one, she figured it was time to do it again…

. – . – . – .

As we speak, I’m… not quite ready to speak with you just yet. A 4 AM wakeup call followed by a few hours of driving in gloomy weather and no coffee in my system makes me a tad bit antisocial. Here are some shots of the road instead…

Rainy Road Trip

Cloudy Mountains

Gloomy Mountains

As we speak, I’m… settling for coffee from McDonald’s because Starbucks wasn’t open yet. I know. What kind of coffee shop opens at 9 AM?!?!

McCafe

Settling for McD

But hey… caffeine is caffeine…

Crazy Coffee Face

As we speak, I’m… displeased with something, apparently. Either that or just bored and trying to entertain myself by taking stupid selfies. Don’t act like you don’t do it too…

Stupid Selfie

As we speak, I’m… finally in my happy place…

My Happy Place

… as is evidenced by the fact that I’m busting out the happy dance…

Dancing in the Mountains

… which was actually just me hopping around in an effort to keep myself from sliding backwards when they said “Hey, that’d make a nice shot. Stand there.” Yeah. No problem.

As we speak, I’m… doing the snowboarding thing.

Snowboarding

And apparently “raising my hands in the air and waving them around like I just don’t care” (read: trying to keep my balance after catching an edge).

Wiggle Boarding

As we speak, I’m… cold. A little cold (especially the very tip of my nose… see it?). Conditions went from sunny and [mostly] clear to holy.crap.it’s.a.blizzard within the span of a few minutes. It made things a little white. And cold.

Cold in the Mountains

As we speak, I’m… regretting the fact that no one managed to capture photographic evidence of the epic wipeout I had on Saturday afternoon. I usually have one or two really dramatic spills every season — with snow flying everywhere and me rolling/sliding down half the mountain — and I’ve always wanted to see what those look like because people are always surprised to see me get up from them. The real irony is that I walked away from my crazy spill scotch free (besides some snow up my nose), and then tore off a thumbnail adjusting the strap on my goggles. Let me tell you, that hurts like whoa…

Broken Thumbnail

As we speak, I’m… squirrel bear! Bear, bear, bear!!!

Black Bear

Black Bear2

We saw a bear on the drive down the mountain from the ski resort, and he (she?) spent a good 5 minutes just waddling along on the side of the road before suddenly deciding that he (she?) needed to get to the other side. This was the first time I saw a bear in years, so it was definitely a nice perk.

Bear Sighting

As we speak, I’m… getting ready for day 2 on the slopes! And wondering what the heck is the point of making coffee cups this small…

Size Matters

As we speak, I’m… cold… again. Day 2 was way colder than day 1, with snowy winds gusting up to 80 kph (50 mph). The tip of my nose and a patch of my left cheek are still feeling a little tender. Fingers crossed they’re not frostbitten… again.

Crazy Winds

As we speak, I’m… burning my tongue, mouth, esophagus, and probably stomach on hot tea in an effort to warm up. I felt that sucker burn all the way down…

Sipping Hot Tea

As we speak, I’m… looking like a ninja but feeling like a goofball. I never know how to stand for pictures — what the heck do I do with my arms… and legs?! Awkward.

Awkward Mountain Ninja

As we speak, I’m… about to tip over, apparently 😆

Tipping Over

As we speak, I’m… marvelling at the fact that this could literally be a black and white picture [it’s not]…

Colourless Mountains

Do you think I could use some more colour in my life? 😆 I almost bought a pair of light blue pants this year, but put them back because they just didn’t feel like me. I’m not sure whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing. But hey! I do have some rose coloured lenses in my goggles [sometimes], so that counts for something 😉

Prizm Rose Oakleys

As we speak, I’m… out of pictures and about to pass out, so I’m going to end things here and wish you a happy Monday. Bye! 😀

Ski season here is OVER. And while that makes me do the happy dance, I did feel a slight jealous twinge when I saw your pictures :).. But then. Bear. Omg. 🙂
