. a tree attacked my Starbucks .

April 29, 2013 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 81 Comments

So many raw cookie dough eaters!

I’m actually amazed by how many people don’t seem to have a problem with eating the raw eggs in cookie dough. You guys almost make me feel silly for worrying about something like food poisoning… almost. Knowing my luck, I’d probably come down with a serious case of salmonella after my very first lick – that’s just irony for you. I think I’ll leave the eating of raw dough to braver souls and stick to baked cookies instead… with ice cream, naturally…

Cookies and Ice Cream

I think I have a new addiction. I’ve had this chocolate chip oatmeal and vanilla bean combo every day this weekend, and I’ll probably keep having it until I run out of cookies or ice cream – whichever comes first. I’m not going to tell you that I’ll probably just end up baking more cookies and/or going to the store to buy more ice cream because I don’t want you to lose any respect that you might have for me, but… it may or may not happen.

So hey! It’s Monday. How was your weekend? Mine? Well, aside from the fact that my favorite Starbucks got assaulted by a tree in the freak windstorm we had here on Saturday…

A Tree Attacked my Bux

… my weekend was pretty darn good. Quiet, but good. This was actually the first weekend in well over a month where I’ve had nothing big planned – no holidays, no birthdays, no snowboarding trips – so it was nice to veg around and basically do nothing at all.

Okay, that’s a lie – I didn’t actually spend much time vegging around at all. But I knew that I could have if I wanted to, so that counts for something, right? Right. There’s a big difference between choosing to do something and having to do it, the latter being far less pleasant. Like when I deep cleaned my entire condo this weekend? Totally by choice. What? I actually enjoy cleaning… sometimes. I blast some music, get in the zone, and go to town.

Mrs Doubtfire

I actually got so into it that I even attacked all the nitty-gritty details, like scrubbing the baseboards and dusting the tops of lightbulbs. Crazy. So that was a good chunk of my Saturday afternoon, and it made me feel a little less guilty for spending another good chunk of my Saturday… uhm… playing video games…

Warcraft Druid

Don’t judge me. It’s one of my favorite ways to waste spend my time. Besides, going outside wasn’t exactly the best option… you saw what happened to Starbucks. I wasn’t a complete anti-social shut in, though… Eventually a friend came over and we spent some time catching up while completely ignoring the movie that we threw into the DVD player…

The Prestige

Good times. Sunday was more of the same (read: a whole lot of nothing). There was church in the morning, a coffee date in the afternoon….

Foamy Perfection

… and dinner with the parents in the evening. Some other notable happenings? Returning to Instagram after something like two weeks of completely ignoring it…

Puppy Mug

… buying Michael Buble’s new CD (which I adore), and enjoying the first rainfall (read: drizzle) of the season…

Rainy Day

It would have been nicer if it didn’t turn into wet snow this morning, but what can you do? Happy Monday, friends! Make it a marvelous one 😀

MiMM

. – . – . – .

Do you like structured weekends? Or do you prefer the go-with-the-flow kind?
Do you eat differently on the weekends than you do during the week? More cheats/treats?
Any other video game lovers out there?

Those are the best kind of weekends sometimes. After a totally crazy Saturday (conference for me and baby; THREE baseball games for my hubby and 3 older boys) we had a lazy Sunday. Church, cleaning, bookstore, grocery store. That’s it.

I prefer a weekend with no set plans most of the time.

I love your cookie/icecream combo. Looks like a balanced meal to me. 😉

I used this one from Skinnytaste http://www.skinnytaste.com/2011/03/low-fat-chewy-chocolate-chip-oatmeal.html but subbed the butter for 1/4 cup of coconut oil.

I’m thisclose to running to the store for ice cream and cookies right now. That combo sounds perfect. There are few things that make me happier than when the house is cleaned and smells clean on Saturday afternoons.
I love and live for relaxing weekends, they rarely happen around here, so when they do, I treasure them.

I’m guilty of eating cookie dough with eggs! Oops. Haha and I definitely eat less healthy on the weekends. Being social means going out to dinner, which is fun, but not as good as homemade meals. Maybe I can start having friends over for meals in the future. One day!

I have been over the raw cookie dough scare for years, it’s never seemed to phase me, knock on wood! And oatmeal chocolate chip are by far my favs! I agree that cleaning is somewhat therapeutic, something so satisfying about having everything “just so” when you’re done! Happy Monday!

I absolutely enjoy cleaning, for some reason its really therapeutic and makes me feel refreshes once I clean my place 🙂 I am sorry about your neighbor (Starbucks). I usually like to have things planned but lately, I am trying to just go with the flow and its relaxing. I spend little bit more time in the kitchen than on weekdays mainly baking 🙂 this weekend was anise & almond muffins

Oh my gosh. My heart hurts for you for all of the snow you have to deal with. Move to FL with me so that you don’t have to deal with snow.

My weekends are usually not structured at all. The only activity I always know I will be doing is drinking too much booze and doing a lot of dancing. But hey, I’m 22, isn’t that what I’m supposed to do? The only thing that’s different about my eating habits on the weekends is that I drink a lot more alcohol. That probably counteracts everything I do during the week, but I’m okay with it.

    Thanks a big ol’ tree!

I always love weekends, but I think it’s hard for me to find the perfectly balanced weekend that includes lots of jam-packed social activities and nourishing (to me, at least) activities like spending time alone, cleaning, resting, and reading. Then there’s the whole errand running thing! I usually end up getting too little or too much of something, but it’s always enjoyable.

I eat pretty differently on the weekends too! I think just more food/different food. For the most part I eat the same meals during the week.

    Happy Monday!

Both you and Sara mentioning Michael Bublé’s new album must be a sign for me needing to listen to it myself. Which I’m in fact starting to do on Spotify right now :).
Actually, I prefer structured weekends and days in general which I don’t have at the moment. My semester depends more on me working from home than attending classes so I’m missing strucure a lot. Keeping myself accountable isn’t my biggest forte.
Oh, I cleaned up big time this weekend, too. With my roommate being away all cleaning was up to me and I blasted the radio full-on though the reception was lacking … Afterwards I rewarded myself with some baking action … aaah, procrastination.

OMG I’m laughing so hard at that Mrs. Doubtfire clip. I was just telling a friend that we need to have an Old School Movie night and that has to be one of the movies we watch…it never gets old! I love busy weekends but preferably when they’re based on my accord- i.e. not having to do something if I’m not up for it!

That bowl of cookies & ice cream reminds me of a deconstructed ice cream sandwich..i.e. heaven in a bowl ;)! My eats on the weekend tend to be more snacky as I’m more likely to be on-the-go. And while I don’t have a planned “cheat day” (hate that term), my weekend eats are usually more indulgent as that’s when I’m more likely to eat out.

I’m definitely a go-with-the-flow on weekends sort of person. It just seems so much more relaxing that way!

I probably eat more ‘treats’ on the weekend, but I think that’s because I usually don’t cook on Saturdays so I’m more likely to go out and eat something indulgent for dinner, or I’m more likely to hang around the kitchen and bake 😉

And I am all for the video games 😉 I might actually wander into EB Games sometime soon and see if something jumps out at me!

I like a mix of structured and no plans at all. Sometimes I feel guilty if I do too much vegging, so I try to at least get some stuff done around the house. I probably eat more treats during the weekend because I’m an opportunistic eater. If there is food to eat, I will eat it. That doesn’t happen while I’m at work. I also love video games. My boyfriend and I are guilty of getting addicted to Little Big Planet (one and two — both are so cute and fun!), and Twisted Metal, less cute and fun, and actually quite violent, but a great storyline.

I go into my weekends with a plan, but then end up just going with the flow. Lately, my weekends have consisted of long runs in the morning, naps before or after lunch, some light studying, dinner, and catching up on DVR’d shows. Very chill, and not very social perhaps, but I love them 🙂

Oh man that tree really did a number on your starbucks! Definitely doesn’t look like a good weekend to be outside. I fully support your decision to just do nothing. I can’t really sit around all weekend but if I want to spend the day cleaning, then I will. It is so much more enjoyable when it’s by choice than when it’s something you feel like you have to do. As far as eating goes, I try to stick to my normal routine but I definitely end up “splurging” more on foods simply because I have no time to go out for fancy meals during the week. Plus, it’s the weekend. I need a little excitement!
