. friday, uncensored .

November 16, 2012 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 31 Comments

There are days where I don’t feel like blogging. Today isn’t one of those days.

There are days where I don’t feel like taking pictures. Or making interesting meals (it’s cereal for dinner again). Or spending a lot of time writing/thinking. Today is definitely one of those days…

As much as I love it, blogging takes a significant chunk of time out of my day. Normally I don’t mind, but there are days (like today) where I don’t feel like spending a lot of time writing/editing/photographing. There are days where I would rather read other blogs, answer e-mails, and really take the time to connect with others.

So that’s what I’m going to do.

I’m going to abandon the idea that every post needs to include pictures.

I’m going to prevent myself from going back and reading/re-reading my post multiple times.

I’m going to ignore the feeling that I have to have a post up by a certain time.

I’m going to free myself from the idea that everything has to be done ‘just-so’.

I’m a perfectionist. I always have a blueprint in my mind of how things should look, and I continuously wear myself out trying to conform to that blueprint. But not today. Today, I’m tossing out the blueprint and giving you an honest-to-God, uncensored, unplanned stream of thought that took me around; mostly for my own selfish reasons. I have to prove to myself that I can break my own smothering rules – and I think I just did.

Happy Friday, loves 🙂

I know the feeling oh too well. I think we all do! I’m a perfectionist at heart as well, and as soon as I start stressing out over posting every day and over-editing my content blogging immediately starts losing its appeal. Remember that this is your space and you treat it the way you want!

I feel like that all the time! I think you were reading my mind. When I don’t feel like blogging or feel like it is a “chore” I just don’t do it. Right now, my google reader is insane, but I don’t care. I’m thinking of hitting the mark all a read and starting fresh on…. Monday. Don’t feel like blogging this weekend. 🙂

It is your blog, so I say do what you want girl 🙂
I’ll always keep reading since you are in touch with reality and aren’t into crazy fads haha.

Yay for punching perfectionism! Don’t ever push yourself too hard when writing a post. This is your blog so people either read and enjoy the style you choose or stop reading. It’s not your job to please anybody but to simply enjoy writing. And it looks like a lot of people – me included, obviously 🙂 – enjoyed your style a lot!!!

… and honestly: Even this blueprint-free post of yours is perfect in an unperfect way. It’s the content that counts not impeccable layout, grammar or else – not saying this implied to any of your posts but just as a general rule (and reminder to myself).

By the way: Feel free to mail me some of your Fig & Date bars any time – I certainly wouldn’t mind :D!

This is exactly why I don’t blog everyday! I try to spend enough time balancing out my world outside of blogging. Not that I don’t love the blog world, I just need a vacation here and there!! Have a GREAT day today!! Enjoy your weekend.

I can TOTALLY support you taking time off. It’s all about balance, and if you have to sacrifice other important things in life to get a blog post written it’s not worth it! I just started my very first blog and I already know there will be days when I need to do homework instead of writing. By the way, I gave you a shout out in my first post because I LOVE your blog. Check it out! healthinequilibrium.blogspot.com

if you really want to get crazy – try not posting at all on days you feel like this. for me (also an extreme perfectionist) i struggle a long time to be able to do this. to break my ‘blogging schedule’. your blog is for you and it is perfectly ok to post whatever you feel. in fact, as a reader i prefer it!

I definitely know how you feel – some days blogging just feels like too much work!! Those are the days when I close down my laptop, go enjoy time with friends/family and forget about blogging for the day! Hope you had a relaxing Friday! 🙂

The best part about self-imposed rules is that we CAN break them! Like you, I sometimes drive myself crazy with re-reading my posts and then I have to remind myself that my blog is an outlet…something I do for fun and hence should not cause me such stress. Enjoy your blogging break…and psssst: nothing wrong with cereal for dinner ;)!

I have definitely been a blogging perfectionist (or heck, a perfectionist in general) in the past but sometimes it’s just not worth it. No one’s perfect anyways, so we might as well enjoy being ourselves without any pressure. Enjoy your weekend 😀

Take that blog break beautiful lady! I think we sometimes feel pressured to write blog posts everyday, but hey, we live lives outside of our computer screen so we have to live them now and again! Enjoy the night!

Girrrrrl!!! haha. This is EXACTLY what I was going to post tomorrow. Jeepers. Way to be all up in my cerebral cortex.
In the battle of my perfectionism and my pillow, my perfectionism has been winning hardcore. I’m taking a vow to even it out by a significant amount.
I’m proud of you for saying this! <3

Love this! I can definitely relate, especially to the part about feeling like you need to post by a certain time of day. I always feel like I should post in the evening in order to get as many Facebook readers involved. Sure can be stressful!

I really love that you decided to take this approach to blogging! I’d 100% rather you write less “perfected” posts than you being burnt out from feeling the need for every post to be perfect and end up not blogging at all! I honestly enjoy reading your about your thoughts more than pictures, anyways 🙂 I find that you always have the most down-to-earth opinions about everything!

I used to feel the same about blogging, following rules that I thought had to be followed (e.g. photos), and I burnt out each and every single time. Now I blog when I feel like it, write about what I feel like, and it’s much nicer, even if I don’t have the largest readership ever (like, at all, but whatever).
