currently – july 2016

July 13, 2016 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 57 Comments

Happy Wednesday, friendly faces!

I seriously can’t believe this is my 4th year doing these Currently posts. I think. I can’t find the one for July in 2013, but it’s there for a few other months so I guess I must have just skipped July that year.

Anywho, if you’re new to Spoons and/or don’t know what all this nonsense is about, it’s basically a post I do every month where I talk about some of the things that are currently going on in life… and I keep doing it because it’s neat to be able to go back and see what I was up to back then and how things have changed.

So here’s a little peak into what life’s looking like in July 2016. Wait… it’s July, right? Yeah, okay 😳

Currently

Current book: Age of Myth by Michael J. Sullivan. Epic fantasy will always and forever be my absolute favourite genre to read, and when I came across this new series while I was out browsing around in the bookstore at 9:45 on a random Thursday night (yes, really), I obviously had to pick it up. I’m about halfway through and having a bit of a hard time getting emotionally invested in it, but it got good reviews so I’m hoping it’ll pick up in the second half.

Age of Myth

Current music: Trap Queen, as covered by Ed Sheeran. This guy… why you so good?!?!

[youtube=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06koEdJiwZg&w=640&h=427″]

Current [non]-guilty pleasure: Those summer night cruises, though. Windows down, music up. I’m in heaven.

Current drink: I feel like I’m pretty routine with my drinks most of the time… Water, my favourite tea, coffee, and a swampy chocolate smoothie are things I drink on the daily.

Smoothie Swirling

Current food: ALL the berries!

Berry Oats

Current obsession: The new gel couture polishes from Essie. You’re not surprised. I know. I’ve already raved about them so I won’t do any more gushing, but it’s nice to finally have a lasting nail polish that makes me actually want to paint my nails again.

Essie Gel Couture Polishes

Current craving: A long trail ride. My wrist is -mostly- better for day to day stuff, but it still can’t handle a lot of weight or pressure on it, so I haven’t been able to get a proper bike ride in for a while.

Current need: An answer to this question? I really can’t think of anything else. I’d say sleep since last night ended up being kind of rough and I’m currently oh.so.tired, but my sleep is normally pretty good, so… next question.

Current indulgence: So I make a fair amount of recipes, and… well… someone has to eat them. Or at least taste-test them 😜

Almond Oatmeal Cookie

Current bane of my existence: I may have to get rid of this question, because… again… I don’t really feel like I have anything to complain about. And even if I do, I try not to make a habit of it. If that makes sense. Anyone have a good replacement question??

Current procrastination: Going back and adding the nutrition facts to my older recipes, starting with the more popular ones 😬😬😬 This is gonna take a long while.

Current confession: I actually don’t really mind doing mindnumpingly boring, repetitive tasks like the one mentioned above. Once I can actually get myself to start, my brain goes into autopilot and the monotony is almost relaxing.

Current quote: Boom 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

I Have Not Failed

Current excitement: Upcoming travels! I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve gotten out of E-town, so I’m looking forward to going away for a bit. I’ll be heading down to Vegas with some friends in about a month, and then to BC for my cousin’s wedding in early September. Counting down the days.

Current mood: This about sums up how I’m currently feeling 😂

I’m with you on the summertime fruit obsession. I can’t get enough cherries right now, and I prefer to eat them straight up and spit out the seed, which is of course half the fun.

I’m currently procrastinating on writing my own currently post, although it was crazy to see in May I asked for four consecutive hours of sleep. Can that be only two months ago and I was sleeping so little? Wow, how time flies. Thank goodness too because this momma needs her zzz’s.

That meme tho…ohmygosh, I need like a poster of that or something!
Book: “Crucial Conversations”…fascinating in its own non-fiction way and I’m glad I’m reading it, but I did put it off because it just seemed a little daunting.
Music: “Try Everything” by Shakira. Such a peppy song; Zootopia got me started. 😜
Food: Any kind of dip!! I’ve literally eaten dip + dip-ables (veggies, chips, etc.) for several lunches this week!
Procrastination: Reading other non-fiction books on my list. 😳
Confession: My sister has gotten me addicted to watching YouTubers. I’m trying to control my urge to watch hours worth of fun or funny videos, but it definitely qualifies as my latest relaxing treat. 😉

Major props for the non-fiction! I’ve can probably count the non-fiction books I’ve read for pleasure on one hand… I just can’t get into them. Probably because I use reading as an escape, and non-fiction isn’t so great at offering that. I’m with you on the YouTubers though. I can seriously lose HOURS a day to that if I’m not careful.

Ugh this little catchup was just what I needed from Spoons! I’ve missed you! YES to summer night car cruises.
Current craving: To dance and just live on the cruise ship I was on last week again.
Food: BBQ meatballs I made last night.
Excitement: Meeting one of my favorite music groups on the cruise ship! *fangirling*
Can’t wait to hear about YOUR vacation soon!!

Welcome back!!! <3 I've never been on a cruise, but it's definitely something I'd love to do one day. And favourite music groups!?!? I need to catch up.

Current book: Expecting Adam by Martha Beck. It’s really intriguing, but one of the wittiest memoirs I’ve read.
I’m always the outlier in my group of friends. I have so many friends who love epic fantasy, but it’s never been my favorite!
I don’t really mind boring, repetitive tasks either. Sometimes I feel weirdly productive doing them.

It’s not horrible being an outlier 🙂 And some fantasy can be a bit of a drag to get through. Have you read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss? Seriously an awesome book (and series).

I definitely struggle with books that start slow. Such a challenge to push through. And I totally adore Ed Sheeran.

I NEED sleep. I LOVE Stampede, but staying up until 11:30 because of the fireworks is exhausting me. I’m a sleep diva.

I think the main reason I felt it was so slow was because I was so used to YA fantasy, which is a lot faster. I just finished this one, and the ending is freaking bomb… with all the threads finally weaving together and everything making sense. Makes me want to go back and read it again to see if I can’t pick up the subtle hints.
