15 quick & healthy grab-n-go breakfasts

August 16, 2016 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 41 Comments

I don’t understand when people say they don’t like breakfast 🤔

That’s like if you tried to tell me that air sinks in water – it just doesn’t make sense. I mean, I guess I understand if what you’re really trying to say is that you wake up without much of an appetite so you put off eating breakfast until a little later, but not liking breakfast? Or skipping it completely and going straight to lunch? Yeaaaaaah. You might as well be talking to me in another language.

I adore breakfast. A.dore. I don’t know that I’d go so far as to say that it’s the reason I get out of bed in the morning, since I basically get out of bed because I get bored of lying in it, but it’s definitely something I look forward to every day… to the point where I’m more than willing to sacrifice 30-40 minutes of sleep just so I can make and eat breakfast in peace.

I get that not everyone s willing to do that, though. I really do. Heck, back in the day, I was more than fine with grabbing a PopTart, NutriGrain bar, or can of Coke (I know) and running out the door. And while that might be okay here and there, it’s probably not something I’d recommend in the long run if you want to stay feeling your best. I won’t even go all “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” on you, since it’s not really a great idea to skip any of your meals, but a little bit of extra nutrition in the morning never hurts, eh?

So! I’ve gathered up 15 quick and healthy breakfast recipes that you can literally grab on your way out the door. I mean… okay… you do have to spend a little bit of time prepping them in advance, but in the morning? Grab-n-go. They’re portable, they’re easy, they’re healthy, and most importantly… they’re crazy delicious.

Grab-n-go is exactly what I need for breakfasts. I’m one of those people who gets up 20 minutes before needing to leave for work. I can’t even contemplate eating until an hour or so after I get up, so something I can pop into my handbag and eat when I get there is perfect. I’m a big fan of breakfast food, though. Funnily enough, I took your banana oat bread to work two mornings this week!

Thanks for all the ideas – I think I’m going to try the freezer burritos and strawberry oatmeal bars for the next couple of weeks.

    What is breakfast…

Said mum and Niki. It’s a disgrace.

Actually, I think WE are in the minority, as so many people I know skip it or think it’s a waste of a meal lol!

There’s something about kicking off the day with a homemade breakfast that just makes it a million times better. 🙂 I’m all about the portable healthy snacks, so everything on this list is kinda making me wish it was breakfast time right now. Thanks so much for including my cookies, Amanda. 😉 Here’s to less lying in bed, and more kicking butt all day, with a few (or ALL) of these snacks in hand. xo

I’m with you. I can’t really imagine going without breakfast. I’m always surprised when people say they don’t have an appetite in the morning. I always have a big appetite in the morning, and then it tapers off at night. I keep meaning to make those blueberry Greek yogurt muffins–I’ll be excited to have my own kitchen back when I move back to my apartment after living in a dorm at the YMCA all summer.

My appetite is the same way! But then I know a lot of people who are the complete opposite and eat a lot later in the day, so I guess it makes sense that they wouldn’t be so hungry for breakfast.

Oh wow, I almost had to scroll through the pictures fast so I wouldn’t be tempted to make them all at once. Breakfast BROWNIES from Arman? How have I missed those? I really would love to have brownies for breakfast, and I do understand what you mean. I’m not sure how people can skip breakfast either. *scratches head*

LOL, Amanda, you and I are twins about breakfast!! My mom is one of those “I just want to skip breakfast people” and I just cock my head at her and look at her like she has two heads. It just doesn’t make sense…how is that even possible?? (Especially, how can I be her daughter?? 😜) Me, I could eat breakfast-style foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner for quite a long time if left to my own devices. Yum, thanks for this great list! Some of these I haven’t tried and look delish! 😋

My mom is the same way! Then again, my family usually eats their last meal a lot later than I do, so I guess it makes sense that they wouldn’t be as hungry in the morning… but still!

I really, really like breakfast food but I have such a hard time eating breakfast. I have to force myself to chew and actually swallow if I try to eat something in the morning. I don’t know what it is, but it’s always been difficult for me. Usually I make a smoothie with a nut butter or something to beef it up and if I get hungry before my lunch time, I have a little snack or something to nibble on to tide me over.

I honestly think that’s a great approach. There’s no point in forcing yourself if your body doesn’t want it, and as long as you’re eating enough in general, then it’s all good!
