15 healthy ways to use up those ripe bananas

January 23, 2016 by Amanda @ .running with spoons. 35 Comments

Happy Saturday, friendly faces!

Or should I say… happy [Sweet & Savory] Saturday? ? In case you missed the last couple of weekends around these parts, Arman and I started up a new weekly linkup series that’s all about FOOD. Each week we pick a certain theme or ingredient to focus on (announced the week before), and then one of us makes a new recipe based on that theme while the other hosts a roundup and linkup where you can contribute relevant recipes of your own. So.much.deliciousness.

Before we take a look at this week’s theme, let’s take a look at the the top three recipes from last week’s oat linkup (from left to right):

Top SS Oat Recipes

White Chocolate Macadamia Granola via 1000 Lovely Things.

Overnight Slow Cooker Steel Cut Oats In A Jar via Making Thyme for Health.

Rawnola via Snackie Bird.

Thank you so much to everyone who participated and added their links! We really want to turn this into an awesome place to share healthy food ideas and inspiration, and we definitely can’t do it without you guys!

For those looking to take part next week, the theme will be: Healthy Super Bowl Snacks.

But enough with the formalities – let’s get to the food! This week’s theme is BANANAS, and I’m basically dying over all the deliciousness here…

MISLEADING. How is this healthy when all recipes are high in sugar. When has cake for breakfast been good for your health?

Hahaha I read next week’s and I was like, ooh I can make a super bowl! I just posted about my new smoothie bowl obsession. Then I read it again like a normal person. That would have been funny.

Mmm love this week’s theme! I love bananas in pretty much any way, shape, or form. But especially with almond butter and/or chocolate!

If only I had more brown bananas in my life. I think I need to buy specific brown bananas for baking so I can make all of these recipes!

I always try to do that, but then the one store that stocked spotty bananas switched over to green ones as well. It needs to warm up so they ripen faster.

Probably do without the glorious banana? It’s so versatile. Loving all these yummy recipes. I don’t know whether I should bake first or make a smoothie. Or both? Yes I like that answer

I have no idea what we’d do! Whenever I hear someone tell me that bananas are slowly going extinct, I die a little inside.

You already know how I feel about bananas. I bought another two bunches yesterday and I think it’s high time to inhale my first one for today. #lickslips

I used up my last ripe banana this afternoon 🙁 I’m already plotting ways to get them to ripen faster. Including going out to actually buy paper bags…

I love baking with bananas but it takes so long for them to ripen. It also doesn’t help that my husband doesn’t even let them get to this point because he eats them all! Grrr…

Right?!? I swear that I”m always struggling to find good bananas. Especially in the winter when the cold weather makes them ripen super slow.

Lucky me I have two VERY ripe bananas in fridge at the moment. I use one last night to make Arman’s banana bread mug.
I love these round ups! So many great ideas.
